The most ignorance ive ever seen on fb

413565.jpegim sure you have seen this on facebook but heres the truth

For those of you who

believe and reposted this story, this is done in the FAROE islands and is one

of their only food sources, because of their barren lands they must rely on

food from the ocean. I don't see why you would react more to this than killing

a cow or a chicken. these are pilot whales which are not endangered or near extinction,

and they use as much of the animal as they can, unlike Japanese shark fishing

where they cut 3 small fins and throw the shark back into the water to die. And

they are not killed slowly as the author said, they are cut halfway down the

neck killing them instantly. For those of you who are saying this is sick and

cruel, I sure most of you have eaten, chicken or a burger many times in your

life. These cows and chickens where forced to live in confined cages and feed

hormone till they were big enough to be brutally slaughtered. The only people

who can hold argument is those who do not eat meat, and for those this is so

small 2 to 3 thousand pilot whales are killed each year by the faroes, 300

million cattle are killed each year by the USA alone. This is no different from

a father bringing his son on a fishing trip (but on a much larger scale!) if

you take the side of these false arguments then you’re a fool most of the stuff

in this was wrong, why? It is clear that the creator Aimed this attack towards Denmark

by dillebratley changed things to make it sound more brutal, to make them

killing an "endangered species". Please help spread the truth.

how can a false story get so big?

If you havent read, this is whats bieng posted : Denmark is a big shame.

The sea is stained in red and it is not because of the climate effects of nature. It's because of the cruelty of the human beings (civilized human) who kill hundreds of the famous and intelligent Calderon dolphins.

This happens every year in Feroe Island in Denmark . In this slaughter the main participants are young teens.

WHY?

A celebration, to show that they are adults and mature!

In this big celebration, nothing is missing for the fun. Everyone is participating in one way or the other, killing or looking at the cruelty supporting like a spectator

Is it necessary to mention that the dolphin Calderon, like all the other species of dolphins, it's near extinction and they get near men to play and interact.

In a way of PURE friendship.

They don't die instantly; they are cut 1, 2 or 3 times with thick hooks. And at that time the dolphins produce a grim cry like that of a new born child.

But he suffers and there's no compassion while this magnificent creature slowly dies in its own blood

Its enough!

We will publish until this post goes around the world that many more people will know about this shameful Dannish acts.

Take care of the world, it is your home!

So long as they are killed at least semi-humanely and are not close to being endangered I could kill less.

So who is right? WE NEED FACTS.

1. You cannot equate a wild species to domesticated livestock. Cattle are raised to be slaughtered in a closed environment. These whales are wild and unsustainably harvested in mass amounts.

2. By your logic, killing another human is no worse than a chicken or cattle because we're not endangered either.

3. Just because it's not near extinction, does not mean it's acceptable to kill a single species in such mass numbers.

you cant throw out the 300 million cows fact vs 2000 whales, because its all relative to size of the area being talked about. 300 million cows a year for 310 million people vs 2000 whales for 50,000 people. 1.033 cows per person per year for the US, vs 25 whales per person per year for the faroe islands?

if we consumed at the rate they did, that would be 7.75 billion cows for the US a year.

pretty sure your logic is flawed. so check your information before you copy and paste a blurb of shit that sounds politically correct.

1 we eat wild fish in much larger percentages of their population, only .03% of pilot whales are killed with an 8% increasing birthrate 2 fuck you i dont see how you can compare this to canablism

3 i dont see why it wouldnt be acceptable its a vital food source through their history

i fucked up, i did 50,000 and 2,000 backwards, which is very important. but still.

and OP you posted 2,000 to 3,000 for the islands. read it.

1.0333 to .04 hmm thats 26x more if the average pilot whale weighs 4000lb and the average cow weighs 1600lb that means pilot whales only weigh 2.5x more im too confused with the math someone take it from here

dafuck?

that would be .97 cows per person and .04 whales per person. or did I completely misinterpret what you were going for.

1. I know we eat fish in larger percentages, and in many cases, that's a main reason why many fish populations are decreasing faster than they regenerate. Please provide me with a source of the harvesting rate vs. regeneration rate as I cannot find that information anywhere I search.

2. I'm comparing your logic to killing other humans, not to cannibalism or the actual act of what is being done.

3. Obviously we disagree on this point. I'm coming from a Natural Resources/Ecology/Wildlife background, I don't know what your perspective is.

Faroe is a part of Denmark

but still I see where you're coming from, it's not as terrible as they make it out to seem, but that being said I'd still much rather they didn't kill them at all

Pretty sure they're self governed.

Also this doesn't have a large effect on the whale populations and the numbers have actually been less than historic ones.

However apparently the whales have been found to have developed high levels of mercury and it may not be the best idea to keep doing this for that reason.

Frankly if people want to fight something they should focus more on things like Shark Fins and indiscriminate Asian whaling practices.

funny how everyone judges on those people for getting some food that may seem "unusual" or "not correct" to us. Its probably just their lifestyle. Same as eskimos hunting whales for their food. Its part of their traditions and a normal part of what they are eating. They would probably think we are crazy for killing and eating so many cows.

I really dont see the problem when a small amount of people continue doing that. Its like the eskimos. They arent the ones who are hunting the whales to extinction. Its always the larger countires (like japan) who are hunitng as much as they can to make profit.

if cows weigh 1600 and whales are 3000.

thats 1552 pounds of cow per person

and 120 pounds of whale per person

I'm pretty sure this story was rumoured to be about killing dolphins/whales for sport, not food, hence the controversy. (So the math is kind of irrelevant.)

Regardless, people shouldn't be posting this shit all over facebook without facts or real opinions, OR any accompanying info/links on how people can actually stop things like this from happening.. in the case that it were a sport or whatever.

One of my friends posted it yesterday and when I asked her what she expected people to do about it she said it was "to raise awareness." of what... exactly... nobody seems to know..

They are self-governed but they still haven't declared independence from Denmark so they are ultimately under the control of Denmark.

I believe that you should do the same, because 50,000 divided by 2000 is not 25 whales per person, but 0.04 whales per person. So actually, they consume less than we do

thankyou for pointing this out. i personally have not yet seen this pic on fbook but it enfuriates em reading about some dbag lying about it and blowing it out of proportion. it happens so much on fbook. i dont see why so many people have a problem with your post

I saw a documentary on this a while back, as for numbers, i understood it to be less than 1000 whales killed, but something like 95% of the whale was used and 1 whale could sustain something like 20 families for the winter. I personally don't see this as a problem, it's not an endangered species and as i understood, over the last couple hundred years no more than 1000 whales have been killed, the government/system there keeps tabs on how many are killed a year.

I saw a documentary about this on discovery channel and it really isn't bad at all, they eat all the meat, use the bones for various things, and throw out things that they can not use or eat. Its not "animal cruelty" it's actually pretty humane
