The million dollar question, poles or no poles

I don't really have any stand on this issue. Personally, I can't ski without poles, I'm always skiing the mountain and jumping cliffs and other fun stuff. But if somebody wants to ski without poles, that's fine because you really don't need them at all, it's just eliminating an unnecessary piece of equipment. To each his own.

if someone wants to ski without poles thats ok i wont make fun of them. but I think its very VERY unstylish and style counts for a lot. pretty much equivalent to tight pants and penciled spins in my mind. you'l never catch me without em unless im filming or somthin.

you dont need them at all? really, all those people that ski with poles must be dumbasses, quickly you who said that, we must tell all those people that ski with poles they are retarted

fine, i'll come out and say it, skiing with out poles is bad for the sport, if you think you dont need them you dont know how to ski, all non pole users, try snowboarding, you will fit in better with gay people

youll find a ton of skiers without poles in washington and oregon. its much more common than anywhere else it seems

Everyone i've seen who doesn't use poles, feels the need to stiffen their arms and flap them like a bird to keep balance. Just looks plain stupid.

And from what i've seen, 90% of people who don't use poles are park rats who couldn't ski an intermediate slope if their life depended on it.

Although, i think I remember some photos of pollard not using poles. Maybe i'm wrong.

I broke my poles second run when I tried switch on for the first time this year. I agree with you though. I wasnt gonna spend $15 on rental poles for a couple hours.

ive seen footy of pollarizzle using unpoles. its looks just as steezy. but if you cant ski without poles you should consider snowboarding.

it's not a milliondollar question. it's obvious what people here think.

I must say that dropping them for a run or two to train is alright. helps you find a little more solid balance on your own. if you ski a bump run or two without them it can help immenesly. BUT dammit, pick them up again.

even andy mahre flaps his wings without poles. and that pic may look good, but we can't see the movement of the other hand in that one fame.

poles are skiing. might as well just use snollerblades if you don't like them.

wow... i thought skiing was all about having fun. I didn't know that we have to worry about how everything we do is good or bad for our sport. Most people that ski without poles use them in the backcountry etc, i guarantee andy can kick your ass all over the mountain. I also think that Andy knows how to ski, seeing as his father and uncle were olympic gold medalists in racing. Finally, snowboarding is rad, some people just prefer one board over two, but we're all still out there on the snow.

^ yea and u dont need to make a turn when ur grindin a rail. all ur negative attitudes put a daper on progression cuz where thres progression its goin to be different and un common so yall should just accept it cuz a thread made by a punch a nubs on the interenet isnt goin to stop me or anyoneelse from doin what they want

^ skiin with out poles is just a huge influence from snowboardin, i personally would rather have snowboard style in the park than comin from a race style or mogul style or just no style but i belive when ur ripin a big line, use poles no doubt,

hahahahah. all you bitches who posted are stupid bitches who cant ski and probably have poles that go up to your chest

I use mine most of the time, but I feel so free and great with out them, I just cant ski powda with out them.

only in short radius turns and they are not by any means nescescary for turning simply timing they do not make the act of turning "easier"

i can ski without poles, but i find that it feels very awkward. but i live in minnesota and the park that i ride has a rope tow, so lately some of the skiers haven't been riding with poles (the park takes a minute to ride MAX and thats if your going slow and hitting everything and then your right back on the rope, and riding rope tows is a bit easier without poles)

def good for taining, get your spins way more solid, but its retarded when people never use them. actually nevermind, most people who have them dont use them any way they just dangle so fuck it

poles are for turning, if you ski around without them you basically scream "IM A PARK RAT" cause you dont need them when all you do is sit in the park

yeah i have seen so many people drop their poles this year in mn. i dont think it looks half bad either. i guess just depends how good you are but weiler is steezy as can be w/o them

if you can develop a good sense of balance without poles. i.e. minimal arm movement, your skiing in general will improve. Your sense of balance is on a whole different level at a few sessions of not using poles. The list of pros who practice with no poles is pretty long. Pollard, Mahre, Mik D, etc. I personally find skiing with no poles to be pretty ugly. But if it is for practice so that when you pic up your poles again, your fakie cork 5 is flawless, or your airsense when you drop your next cliff is perfect well then its for the better. no-poles is like braces, they look horrible for the short time that you wear them, but when they come off you got a damn good set of pearly whites.

I love poles they help me balence. but when I teach I don't unless I teach kids who use them

That is the reason you might not use poles, to get that weird feeling away, then put poles back in your hands and I bet you'll be a better skier balance wise.

why are u makin pole plants in the park anyways, do u think four point and three point take offs steezy..........no only candide can make them steezy
