The level of skiing in girls competitions

I had an argument with friends, why do you think girls don't throw tricks as big as guys: not as physically capable or not enough fierce competition that would oblige them to push themselves further ?

not enough fierce competition that would oblige them to push themselves further.

They dont have to throw down as hard as the men, so they don't.

I truely believe it's because there are fewer of them and since they arent judged up to men's standards they dont need to learn how to do double flips and big spins.

its slowly starting to change, but at the end of the day girls just dont need to throw down hard (compared to men) to win.

girls just arent built to perform like men are. No offense to all women out there but im sure you know women for the most part just arent as athletic as men. Men are also just so competitive, too. I mean for example you dont just see womens basketball players throwing down huge dunks like mens nba players do. same applies for skiing.

I definately dont believe women cant throw down as had as men. If you look at other acrobatic sports, women are usually much closer to the level of the men.

and if I remember correctly Ashley Battersby did the exact same tricks as Adam Delorme in the first jiberish edit this year.

idk, the girls are still all right. there still way better than the girl boarders. "wow, she won with an amazing couple of threes!"

The brains of men and women are different...so is the center of gravity and the overall mentality towards competing. They won't catch up unless women's brains evolve into more manly brains, which none of us really want to have happen.

Simon Dumont isn't exactly built to perform like a man either. No offense to him, cus he slays, but if he can go and break the qp record, don't you think that girls should be able to throw down just as hard?

I think they just don't have the competitive side or the competition to push the sport(yet)

Girls probably could throw down as much as guys if there were more of them riding. Maybe they don't spend enough time on them but it seems like a woman could be just as good at stuff like rails as a guy.

im sure they could if they wanted to but there just pussys when it comes to it and think cause there girls there entitiled to more for doing less work

i thought that at one time, but skiing is all about co-ordination and balance. girls who do gymnastics/figure skating... do some crazy shit that takes mad coordination and strength, so its not that. the level of skiing in girls competitions is low because they suck at skiing.

you're FUCKING kidding me, right? i think the girls work their asses off and still, half of you don't give a shit. entitled my ass.

i agree with the first part: major bitchassness. i'll admit that i'm scared out of my mind for whatever reason to throw down.

but entitlement? not so much...i don't get where that came from.

there are plenty of books about the differences between male and female brains. check them out, it explains this very simply.

women were the gatherers, and men were the hunters. the men were built to be competitive and aggressive physically, while the women were built to nurture. don't give me any bs about how I'm being 'sexist' because there ARE differences between men and women, we are not equal.

its because girls spend more time on parting and acting like dikes. NO OFFENSE TO WOMEN AT ALL but I was watching fuel one day and some guy took some girls that ride for oakley out into town and all they seemed to be doing was goofing off acting like retards.

wow, that was tough to read. great work being 14 years old NS. anyway....

lots of factors go into this. on average females are not nearly as strong as males. in figure skating the gap is not very big, but the amount of force involved is not nearly as high as skiing. second, the number of females who are dedicated park rats is significantly lower than the number of males. smaller overall pool of people = less superstars. this is most likely simply a cultural thing, as park skiing is a more widely accepted hobby for men than women. third, the prize money / exposure / competition / possibility for a career in skiing are all lower, and this definitely does affect the overall level of skiing. there are many other minor factors as well, like men being more genetically pre-disposed to risk and aggressiveness and whatnot.

no one can argue that the level has improved exponentially in the past few years so now with so many more girls competing we should see it getting even better...HOWEVER, dont u guys think its hard to see girls throwin down with style and confidence...? imo some seem so awkward when doing stuff, its well done but theres something missing..mmm ...like if a right handed tried to write with the left hand he could probably do it well, get the message across but it'll never be the same as with the right hand...boys are the right hand and some girls the left hand...

ok enough analogies, but anyways, props to the girls that can do plenty more shit than I can haha.

nah, guys are just more physically able to do things than girls. Doesn't matter the arena. Snowboarding, where girls have had a hell of a lot more exposure than female skiing, is still a major joke compared to the men's side of things (in my opinion). Skiing... well... the gap is tremendous; I get so sick of the phrase "good for a girl," because it's such a handicap.

Even in gymnastics and figure skating, two sports that are generally associated with the ladies isn't even close really - sure, the girls are good and all, but the guys? insanity.

im not saying you are completely wrong...men and women are built differently. but girls are just as competitive as men. and not all men are competitive. but i know i am. i once had a statistics prof. in college tell me i was too competitive....you cant say that becuase girls dont throw down as hard as guys they are less competitive....

and girls are stating to step it up. im pretty sure sarah broke her back and kim tore her knee up on a xgames course the some of the top guys wouldnt touch....

you probably mean blind 4, but that's relative, cause that was her best trick and adam's was corked and is something he did as a setup every run into the jump where as she was hiking until she got it.

because most girls who ski park don't really know how to actually ski.

i said most, not all.

nonexistant? yeah right ash battersby is doing sw 7s over 80 footers not many other girls do that trick and dania straight slays it too. girls are getting better and yes they do need to step up but saying that nobody else compares to their talent level is retarded although i gotta say kaya's steeze is unmatched

This is the only actual truth in this thread.

Woman are psychologically different. Studies have shown that women statistically speaking, will take less risk.

also another question i would like to raise is, are mutes and safeties the only grabs girls can do? i can't think of a single time a girl has done a legit grab other than those two.

girls work just as hard as guys, i mean take ingred backstrom and sarah burke, they are fucking sick, they can do almost what guys can do, dont give girls shit, there just as talented, maybe even more talented then you

i no that there were tons of threads with that, but i remember some funny picture (like from a medical school book, anatomy or what) in which its stated that some kind of vaginal juice/function/body part or whatever causes women to avoid risks?

i guess it was some kind of early research in those topics, like something thats proven wrong for decades but still made it into a lot of books

dude, why would you hold back when you could be the best in the world by far...i'm sure kaya isnt worried about getting too much product. thats the least of her worries.
and sarah hasnt done her 10 because she has only done a few 10s. the majority of people that do big tricks, guys included, practice them a shitload. its like saying why hasnt walter wood done his 16 in the pipe. cuz hes only done a few, if that. you need your shit consistent for contests. thats why you dont see jacob going dub rodeo 9, to switch dub 9, to dub 12 in slope contests. he'd be more consistent with doing simpler tricks. theres only been 2 dubs in a line in one contest. bobby brown dew tour, and, as he explains, it was a huge risk.
you cant tell me every girl in the world isnt trying at all and they are just taking it easy because they dont want to be rich and have too much product. watch them ski in contests, they are focused, and trying.

definitely agree with you for the most part except that most girls in competitions are either scared or just dont have more than the basic tricks. too many competitions are won by girls for regular slides because there is no one else doing anything more than that and it puts them in a mindset that thats all they have to do... why risk dying on a stairset with a 270 on when a regular slide will win you a crap load of product

on a pro level girls dont throw as big of tricks becuase of the state of everyones mind every since you chick were little you were influenced to think that you were inferrior (ie. soft ball cheerleaders ballet etc) so its in most girls mind that they cant do the same things as guys so you slow your progresseion. However it only takes a few girls to changes this. I'm not up on chick skiers but take jolle van vaught (nitro circus, wma racing) but besides peeing standing up I dont think there is anyting that she is incapable of. If I live long enough to have a daughter I'm going to raise her to kick little boy's asses and take their lunch money.

k a couple of years ago before i had an account someone had a research paper on this and publishd it, its because of their hips and the way they are built they are less able to perform at the level men do. but thats sumarizing a paper in a sentence which is really hard to do

for me, its mostly because i do not have or know any girls in my town that freesytle ski. the guys are just intimidating imo so yea...

You need to get out more. Watch this. She is 14 and just learning confidence over the boys jumps.

while i really don't like truckdrivers i'm stoked a girl is actually trying different grabs.

there frontflip though, good for a girl, but that mindset sucks and why i think girls really aren't great...but she is only 14 she'll be realllll sick soon enough i bet.

Its 1 part girls being pussies, 1 part girls not being built to be athaletic, and 1 part girls not having any competition.

mainly theyre just pussies... because having big hips really shouldnt make you ski like a pussy and not hit jumps as big as guys and not spin more than 9s.
