how retarded is that

did ne of u have this happen

ill just clarify some stuff for you

"c" is actually "see"

"ne" is actually "any"

"u" is actually "you"

a grand total of 5 more letters so that i can tkz ur opninn srzliezz

Do you go to a catholic school or something?

Philip Pullman's books aren't completely anti-christ, more so just fiction. But people overreact to anything...

you must live in utah or something. for some reason i wanna see that movie, it's something about those polar bears and russian dudes that intrigue me.

Yeah, I don't understand some peoples objection to anything they don't believe in themselves...

It was one of my favorite books as a kid.

the golden compass and the sequel, the subtle knife, are incredibly good books. some of the best imagery and scenery out of any book I've read.

na i live in MI and yea i go to a jesus school. they are over reacting, my friend squanto got the book taken away from him and we told the priest we are seeing it tonight and he cant do ne thing about it

It's actually a trilogy, The Golden Compass then The Subtle Knife, then The Amber Spyglass.

It's true their dark fantasy, but they are definately books that everyone should read at some point.

I loved those books as a kid. They were by far my favorite books when i was younger. I dont think they are anti-christ at all--its bullshit overreacting, just like saying harry potter books are anti-christ because there are witches and wizards. It makes no sense and by saying that adults are waging war on imagination in their kids.

i love the whole trilogy, but the Church of England is supposedly pissed about the stories because they kill God. boo-hoo, he wouldn't have died if he had been as much of a BAMF as the church wants to make God seem. i thought he was almighty and shit, but his kingdom was overthrown in no time.

but that's why Christian groups don't like the series. that being said, go read the books and see the movie. sure, a fantasy story might seem a little gay, but it's a good story, so give it a chance.

supposedly they took references to the church out of the movie, which to me doesn't make sense, seeing as all three books are basically about the church

It's fiction people get over it. There are some fairly anti-religious things in it as I remember from when I read it. The next 2 books in the series have more of that though. I'm acctually stoked to see the movie, the book was sweet

yeah but the last book kinda sucked. big letdown.

and they don't kill god. I am not gonna ruin the story but god plays no part in the story whatsoever.

like lots of other people have said, its FICTION. I fucking hate every church that is getting pissed about this movie, it just makes them come off as insecure, backwards little fuckwads.

I read the whole trilogy about twice a year when I was a kid. I absolutely loved those books, I always wished that he would write another series in the same style. When I found out the the movie was coming out I told my boyfriend "opening night! We're going!" so that's what I'll be doing tonight. I hope it lives up to the books.

Never read the books. But the anti-fascist shit, and especially the anti-cathloic notions, if even super subtle, always piss off the die hard catholics. Hell, people got so worked up over Harry Potter, and that was so far from blatant its not even funny (some school districts banned it because it was like devil worship/witchcraft shit).

I saw the movie on Monday, and its not that good.

If the book caused a stir, the movie hardly will; it is so dumbed down. Too quick, too dry, and relied too heavily on special effects. All it turned out to be was a prelude to the next two, meaning it was super anti-climactic. Overall, it seemed like a bad book adaptation: too often there were these blunt statements and shit that were clearly meant to explain what was in the book to the viewers, which was almost certainly more explanatory and subtle, in the way a book can provide. In the end, I didn't give a shit.

from what i understand, in the third book of the trilogy, the boy and girl kill god so that they may do whatever they want. in interviews with philip, he openly admitted that the book have the ultimate message about killing god. so its understandable why people would be upset. i won't be seeing it...

Did you get the "I hate people" attitude from reading the book? If so, then maybe his school's actions are warranted.

I hate Christian schools. When I was in one they sent letters home because of Pokemon cards, and how they are made by the same company or whatever that makes Dungeons & Dragons.

BTW I like how they have like half the cast from James Bond: Casino Royale in this movie. LOL.

I didn't want to see the movie, b/c they are never as good as the book was, but now i think I should because the Christians are against it.

They're one of my favorite book series, but for once I have to agree that it is antichristian. I mean, Lord Asriel does set out to kill god, and succeeds.

i liked the series and i dont read too much

but the was deffinitly some anti christ stuff but fuck religion

dont forget the final book in the trilogy, the amber spyglass. and i agree with how good they are, some of my favorite books

Actually they are I was listening to michael medved talking about them and he was taking direct quotes from his books and interviews. The guys an athiest.

I didn't read past the first chapter of the book a couple years ago, but I liked the movie, even though the people I was with said it wasn't really related to the original book, with a completely different ending and such.

actually i must say....at one point in the trilogy there is actually a statement that goes something like "..and then I realized that Christianity was one of the biggest mistakes of all time." that said that book and the two others i the trilogy are fucking amazing

niether will I. The guy is a crazy athiest...why would you write a book for young children about killing god?...

retarded. i saw it last night and thought it was pretty good. all i really care about is having my own icebear

the original book was written by an athiest to counteract the "lion witch and wardrobe" so ya it is kinda an anti christian movie

Actually, that's not entirely accurate. Both His Dark Materials (Pullman) and The Chronicles of Narnia (C. S. Lewis) are based upon John Milton's epic poem, Paradise Lost. William Blake in his The Marriage of Heaven and Hell famously said 'The reason Milton wrote in fetters when he wrote of Angels & God, and at liberty when of Devils & Hell, is because he was a true Poet and of the Devil's party without knowing it'. The fundamental difference between Pullman and C. S. Lewis is that Pullman agrees with Blake, while C. S. Lewis disagrees.

Love the books, for sure seeing the movie. Your school is being silly because even the Catholic Register, a newspaper, said that it wasn't anti-christ and stayed within limits. If people would stop taking things out of context, we'd all be better off.

People just take anything and everything out of propotion. Harry Potter encourages witchcraft? bullshit. Santa encourages kids to eat and be obese? retarded. Santa saying 'ho ho ho' is derogatory towards women? Give me a fucking break. Cant call trees christmas trees but now Holiday trees because little Jimmy lights some fucking candles instead of putting presents under a decorated pine tree? come on.

haha ya acctually it is pretty antichrist, not so much the golden compass but the rest of the series is.

Lyra and Will technically do kill god but unintentionally, and he was as good as dead anyways

The book/movie apparently was critical of religious associations with parallels to catholocism etc. Probly the same thing that said harry potter was devil worship. Really though, he wasnt criticizing any religious ideas or beliefs, just the sometimes corrupt organizations that run it. Those people need to stop bitching. Free speech.
