THE FINAL SKI THREAD

K guys, I promise this is the last one. I am going down to the Evo store in Seattle this weekend and need your help on what to get.

I ski Westcoast. Planning to get up to Whistler atleast once a weekend (lots of pow hopefully). These skis are going to be my fat skis and I will probably ski 70% pow/all mountain on them and 30% park. I am 5 9 and still growing and I weigh 125 pounds. Consider the fact that I am still growing.

Here are the 3 prospect skis: (Some of them are quite different skis but I need your help to decide)

1. 185 EP pro. These seem like they would be such fun skis. Super soft, buttery looking skis. Seem like they might be a bit long, but I will be mounting center so who knows. They kinda seem fat for park also. I really like the graphic on these skis.

2. 179 Hellbent. Super soft, but not as soft as the Ep pro, from what I've heard. Again length might be a problem but I'll probably center mount so it doesn't much matter. These seem like they would be the better choice of the rockered skis because of the smaller waist. A bit more usable in park. Don't really like the graphic much on these though.

3. 172 Elizabeth. Don't know too much about these. They seem like they are pretty agile, as Pollard says, they are his park ski. A bit of a smaller waist, definitely stiffer, and not rockered. Don't really know what to think about these. I do really like the graphic though, it's dope.

So tell me which ski I should get and your reason to believe this.

Forgot to mention that, I have my park skis for the full park days at my local mountain...So it's a 2 ski quiver.

179 Seth's would work... unless you are just sticking to your options. I'd pick the Lizzies, they are super fun!

didnt finish...but ya the hellbents might be a little to fat for you considering your only 125 and they might be alot for you to move around. i think youd be safe with the elizabeths but they might be a litle short for when your bigger

How tall is pollard? He skis park on them so unless he's like 5 8 or something, I think they would work for a long time.

^ Even if he's 5'8" or taller, they are meant to be shorter, easier to throw around in the air. If you are that concerned about growing out of them, go with the Bacons. I think buying a rockered ski without trying it first could be a mistake, but that's my opinion. Bacons or Lizzies would be a safe bet for powder, all mountain and some park.

i think the EP Pros would be too specific of a ski for pow/all mountain, especially with your size.  i have not ridden them though so i could be wrong

if you are concerned with the elizabeths being too short, check out the bacons but for your size you would be fine on lizzies

EP Pro's should be a No no from teh start. Lizzies or for more charging, Seths would be ideal. Or SCratch BC's.

Are you serious about the Lizzie's? That's exactly why Pollard states it as his park ski right? And why recommended for mounting is so close to center?

Most people from EVO are going to be at Ski Fever at Quest Events Center this weekend, if you want to drop by there. There wont be EP Pros, Hellbents, or Lizzies there though, the fattest we have are lots of Toons, some Seths, and some Scratch BCs...oh and two pairs of Sumos.

I'ma be down there this weekend, I'm lookin for SPK boots, Anthems, Bacons, and 2 pairs of bindings.

But to the thread creator I'm going park ski (anthems) and then Bacons for powder BC jib, and some all mtn. the sidecut will allow that and the flex is good. There are better choices for hard charging but it will be good for everything else involving powder and even all mtn.

Go th Quest field to the Expo, hopefully it will be baller.

i really think your best bet is hellbents. ive seen them used at timberline in the summer and they seemed to work fine. actually the guy using them was way steezy. Hellbents are the way to go.

Alright here's my opinion. At your size and weight i would think both rockered skis would be alot to throw around. I also think that they might have trouble all mountain, like groomers and crud and stuff. Both are pretty much for only pow and buttering. On the other hand you have elizabeths, which i own, that do great on hardpack, ok for varied conditions, and sick in park. But because of the length they won't float as well as the rockered skis. Its still pretty good, but not what i expected. If i were you i would combine both ideas and get bacons. They will have great float in pow, can still butter, and they will be fairly useful all mtn and park.

Get bacons.

Surface?
Haha, but seriously, the rockered skis are pretty specific, and unless you've tried a pair, you could be getting in over your head.
I'd say you're bound to outgrow the Elizabeth fairly quick, and it won't float as well as the others...split the difference and look at some bacons and live life/live life2s...these would be better choices.
And I'm glad you took graphics into such consideration...they are the most important aspect of skiing besides your jacket and whether of not you have XXL 3.5 antifreeze puffys.

Yeah, I was wondering why you were concidoring the 179's.

Its hard to reccomend, because the widest ski Ive been on are my Ar6's. I guess go with the Hellbents, then sell them to me when your done with them!

I'm gonna throw it out their that lizzies will probably be less than ideal for you, especially at 5'9" 125 lbs and growing. Your already pretty tall and you will probably gain more weight. Plus you already have a park ski. Probably hellbents would be best suited. EP Pros are too specific to pow.

yes^ have you even seen the hellbents, there really rockered and would suck balls all mtn. so slow, unstlable, and heavy. maden ak's or maybe live life 2s, there apparently just like elizabeths but longer so no tip dive

i stated the 3 skis of choice, and if you can't suggest other skis i'm not really interested. i've firmly chose those 3 skis.

i think thats a good decisoin might be harder on grom but still gonna be a dope ski in pow so fun i want to try a pair....to bad i like in minnesota:(

someone wants to give me a good deal on a pair of 179's. i don't know what to do. can i mount them dead center for a easier ride?

i would totatly help you out but im am not the one to ask.. if your talking bout hellbents im pretty sure the rocker is set up for you to mount dead center srry if im wrong

Lizzies or Bacons would be the logical choice, good in nearly all conditions. Lizzies would be maybe a little small if he grows, but he's light so that works to his advantage. Rockered skis are way too overhyped. They sound like they'd be amazing in ideal conditions, but how often does the typical skier get those conditions?? If you only have park skis now, it would make more sense to get something you could still slay groomers on, rather than such a specific powder ski.

if your skiing 70% pow why would you center mount, and graphics being a big part of ur decision is not good

I ski center mount everywhere-I've skied skis like that for 2 seasons now and it's just the way I ski. I can't go back...

No way dude. 169 is fine for you. The 179's are more like 185's. They run long (169 = ~175-ish), and the Hellbents are heavy. You wouldn't mount them anywhere but center anyway. I'm curious though, of the 70% all mountain/pow, whats the percentage of pow and percentage of all mountain ? They'd be good in the pow, but all-mountain they'll be heavy, slow, and the rocker probably won't help. I'm not really sure how they would do in the park either, they're heavy.

I've decided the 169's or nothing. As for the percentage, I'd say getting from the pow to the lifts and back to the pow. So not a lot of all mountain. And for park, I've seen videos of people in the park and it looks overly fun. If I absolutely hate the rocker style I can always re-sell them on here.

Is this purely for use at Whistler? I don't think you'll find much pow at Grouse ;)

And yeah, 169's measure 175, I think it has to do with the rocker feeling shorter when you ski it, so they deliberately make it longer.

But damn... 122 waist in the park? I'd like to hear how it skis

Yup mostly/all Whis. Obviously these skis aren't going to be for doing switch ups, and spinning on or off. They just look all around like they would be fun. But thinking about it now, Bacons or Elizabeths are the more sensible option for where I ski. The Elizabeths look good, but I don't want to out grow them within the next 2 years!!!

Yes but they just don't seem like my type of ski. Not wide enough at the waist. I already have a park ski that I can throw around.

Its a 98 waist.

anyway I think another good choice would be the Sir Francis Bacon. It's like a compromise between the skis you mentioned.

98 compared to 110 or 115 of the Elizabeth or Bacon. That's quite a difference. But yes Bacon is kinda what I'm thinking. They may be too big though, but I'm also worried about out growing the Lizzies...
