The 2010-11 Saga Thread

wool is great, but nobody makes tall wool

trollface.jpg

but in all seriousness, wool is the best. wear it under your tall tees, it works.

Wool is the best.

It will keep you warm even if its wet.

It also gives you a different kind of warmth. Its more of an inner warmth if you understand what i am saying.

its called still wont keep you dry dude. 3L 20k 20k is going to function a lot better than the fabric FD uses.

if you like it, thats fine, but FD is designed for park rats who dont care about function and tech.

Anyone's size large jacket shipped yet?
Or L King Cobra to be exact..
Opening day is coming up, and I don't have a jacket!

LJ used last years shit in japan (Work it Out)This year's fabric is ten times betterAnd Mark Abma uses the Salomon Zer jacket in backcountry and that is 2L 10k/10kFirst drop is 2L 20k/20kSaga wasn't always 3L eitherAnd this is their, what?, 4th yearThis is FD's second year and it is just as good as saga

i dont particularly care what sagas gear was like in their second year, theres a reason why i didnt buy it then, but did now. when it comes to tech Saga > FD. its not even an issue of opinion or debate able its fact.

especially with things like sleeve zippers and what not that are just another place for water to get in.

^^^^^Going off of this...

Something you guys will notice is that SOME cold weather shit is not that waterproof because the logic is when its fucking 20 degrees outside, where the fuck is the water? everything is frozen you dont need a high waterproofing

however all the other high end shit is usually gore tex to yeah...

unfortunately i didnt get to. people i was supposed to go with bailed on me. it survived a walk across campus in 10000000000 mph winds though hahahahahhaa.

not too bad

you could have gone bigger if you wanted even

i do however feel that saga could have made their pants baggier

i got to ski in my jacket today and it was amazing. my review of my XL lobster:

warmth: there were heavy wind gusts on the mountain and i didn't feel any of these through my jacket. the fabric is thick but pliable and the cloth mesh lining the inside keeps your skin away from the colder jacket and lets air flow to keep you regulated. i got hot hiking the park so i opened the pit zips and back vent and that seemed to keep me cooler. i don't think i will ever feel cold again

fit:my XL is BIG but that is good because i am 6'4". i don't recommend anyone under 6'2" get an XL. they are designed for tall people not people 5'8". sleeves are baggy and the cuffs have to be cinched so they don't cover your gloves.

durability: only one day but no major flaws or anything even noticeable after a day of throwing myself around at killington and spending much of the time on the ground.

improvements: it was hard to think of any improvements on this jacket. i would have liked to see a coat hook strap by the tag so i could hang up my coat not on the hood. if i were them i would have picked black mesh for the outside of the vents but they used the cool inside mesh style. i wish they used a magnet hood restraint instead of a snap.

overall a great buy, well worth the money

i saw the vests in person aswell and they are super cool.

you are dumb. it is not. lets think presale here. first drop, it was like $430 for a 2L 20/20k with zip off sleeves that probably werent water proof zippers. they had free shipping, but not to canada. saga, $400 for a suit with $30 shipping to canada. 20/20k 3L (better than FD). doesnt have a design that seems like it was made up by a guy who was stoned.

saga has better stuff in general.

so really, when buying first drop, you are paying for a suit thats more expensive than a saga suit which is more tech and looks better than FD.

yo i think i saw you at killington yesturday i was with the kid you talked to that had the blue saga vest

So are the jackets insulated? Or like are they warm enough for a Minnesota winter (below 20 degrees always, most o the time under 10-15)?

not at all. I almost think it's thinner than last year. but they're really meant as an all season shell, just layer up underneath. a shirt and a crew underneath should be all you need.

" All outerwear is still on schedule to ship out before the end of the month." is this a shipping conformation? IDk why they sent me this?

for all those people hating on first drop, you're main #1 reason has been because of the fabrics water proofing. I dont think many people on here know enough about fabric to speculate on it.

A garbage bag is 100% water proof, would you say thats great fabric?

Wise people know what they do not know.

Not one wise person has yet to compare saga to first drop in this thread.

In my opinion, the reason first drop is hated on so much is the fit. It just doesn't fit nicely. Looks like the person is wearing a parachute that had a terrible design templace on it. I dont doubt its warm, and waterproof enough, it just doesnt fit nicely on the body to me.

Saga on the other hand, is nice and slim. They have perfected their signature style look, and the quality is far better than First Drop. It may only be experience, and I have no doubt FD will catch up to saga eventually in quality. But as of now, they are inferior in quality and style to saga.

really wanna see pics of the king cobra. for anyone who has gotten theirs is the the color more red like the picture on the website or more orange?

for all the people that say first drop is better their main reason is that the sleeves zip off......reallly? does that make it better......imo first drop looks cheap compared to saga

well the reason im not sure that is right is because i know of there royal year, there all white with 1 black pocket year there eggnog year, there moss year, last years and this years.

are all those jackets diffrent years or are some in the same year and also i memember a purple jacket with gray pockets. is that also another year 2?

feel free to critique me i was just wondering how many years theve been on the market.
