14499893:SofaKingSick said:pfft you don't need advice you're set bro. they have tons of snow, and you already plan to go to the correct mtns (palisades tahoe and whatever they call alpine meadows now; same ticket; dope mtn with fewer people usually and different layout than palisades but some seriously seriously sick zones)
have fun! you're gonna have a ball

That place has pretty good food in Truckee, it's chill, has (relatively) reasonable prices, and solid portions.
14499919:ajbski said:Cheers guys.
anything I shouldn’t do to piss off locals?
last time I was in California (mammoth) my rental car got keyed up in the parking lot probably cause I parked too close to a camper van. I’m used to skiing in Quebec where if a car fits somewhere, it’s fair game.
14499920:*Nickdel* said:Lots have been filling up by 10am on the weekend. Best to leave earlier than you think. HWY89 from truckee to squaw has been a nightmare with gridlock traffic by 830am.
14499933:Profahoben_212 said:Have fun! Ill be in the backcountry this weekend, otherwise id show you around.
14499933:Profahoben_212 said:yeah Id be leaving truckee at 745ish probs.
We leave reno at 7-715 on weekends without pow and usually hit the lot at 830ish.
Snow will be cut up by this weekend. but its looking like you might get lucky with them opening hikes. If you're at palisades keep your ears open for if they're opening granite chief peak (peak to the right of granite chief chair.) or mainline pocket... you can also find freshies way out skiers left under GCP a few days after storms. Keep an ear out at Alpine if they open the ridge (runs the whole lookers right side above wolverine bowl over to the buttress.) Really easy walk on the ridge off of summit. Also keep an eye out for if they open up sun bowl on the backside of alpine. Just a quick jaunt straight up and over after unloading summit chair.
14500000:ajbski said:Thank you so much, very helpful. So I’m gonna ski palisades in resort on Sunday.
I got a guide book of Tahoe area and haven’t really looked into it too much yet. I hope to do some chill touring on Saturday (below tree line stuff). My sister is gonna be on alpine trekkers and full alpine boots without a walk mode just so she can see if she likes it and is willing to invest in a proper kit.
14500011:Profahoben_212 said:Just a heads up. It looks like they might be opening silverado Saturday. If true Id highly recommend being there for first tram to ski some of the best inbounds terrain in the world. Ill be on first tram if they don't open silvy on Friday.
14500005:SofaKingSick said:all of this x100
OP, the hike-to zones at palisades and alpine are the real jewels, granite chief peak being my favorite i would guess. here are a couple of pics down the ridgeline at alpine, you can basically just choose a direction and how far you want to hike/traverse out to find fresh snow and fewer people

im going to tahoe for the first time this weekend. the trip was planned long before the dumps, so i guess i just got lucky.
any advice you guys can share? as in dos and donts. were probably gonna ski squaw and were sleeping in truckee.
any input is appreciated.
14500119:dmcdmc said:Traffic on weekends can be rough. MLK weekend, incline village to palisades usually takes 30 mins flat. It took me a little over 2 hours. I left at 8:30am. Lifts open at 9am.
Get to the mountain early.
14500112:maaattt said:Honestly I'd skip the chamy and either go to slot bar or skip all that entirely in favor of a couple cans from Alice's
14500017:ajbski said:you guys really like going off cliffs eh?
14500115:rusteezuschrist said:dude you're going to have so much fun I remember my first tahoe trip I was actually in love
14500250:ajbski said:thanks for all the advice guys. im beyond stoked for this.
more importantly, which skis should i bring? keep in mind ill be touring one out of three days
ive got (in descending width of waist):
-CRJs w/ guardian frames
-elan ripstick 116 w/ shifts
-faction prodigy 3.0 w/ shifts
-rossi s7 w/ dynafit TLTs
-blizzard bonafides w/dukes
14500267:SofaKingSick said:mmm idk how many are you bringing? you're going to be somewhere with insanely dope inbounds terrain, and tons of snow but mostly cut up of course. so whatever you like for that kind of riding
but you should def bring the CRJs, palisades is their home, you might even get a comment or two on em, hell you might bump into a couple of CR's buddies!
14500358:johnblaze said:One more to add. Get a Burrito from Golden Rotisserie in Truckee. So damn good, cheap, and huge.
14500363:hegleezy said:I miss that place so godamn much, this should be a priority to visit for op
14500237:SofaKingSick said:for real i'm legit excited for OP haha tahoe is so sick and this mfer is going for his first time with a ton of snow and rumors of silverado opening when he's there. fuckin tally ho
14500368:bennwithtwons said:we're suffering in incline cause T's had a fire this summer and they still aren't open =(

anything I shouldn’t do to piss off locals?
14503323:ajbski said:Woah, you guys weren’t kidding with the traffic. We left truckee 7 sharp and still got stuck on 80 before even going down 89. we gave up waiting and toured up and around donner ridge for the morning.
also Silverado had sick terrain, but the lift line on Saturday was insane. Tried to get there first thing but we were too late. Skied down the canyon instead of waiting like 2 hours. After we came back in the pm and it was mostly cut up already.
didn’t get to granite chief on Saturday and sunday pm it was closed cause of winds.
Overall good trip.
14503381:mystery3 said:Did you eat or drink anything remarkable?
14503594:ajbski said:I mean by my Canadian standards the burritos at como in truckee were pretty darn good. like all we really have here to compare with is chipotle.
wild flour was a good call for a quick breakfast at the hill.
I think the biggest disappointment for me was no one was cooking in the kt22 lift line before opening, or giving out red bulls or skiing the palisades naked, or farting in the tram/claiming it. Def didn’t feel the gnar in squallywood.![]()
14583477:Noah653 said:Gonna be in Tahoe this week. If there is anyone that knows palisades well and is willing to show me around some of the challenging on and off piste terrain I would throw you some cash. Going to be there on the 25th and morning of 27th. Let me know or if you have any suggestions of areas to ski / inbound hiking.
14583517:bennwithtwons said:are you only skiing over there or gonna be scoping out some other resorts?
