Switch Skiing No Longer allowed at Alta

Snowbird pulls the same shit, All of Little cottonwood sucks go to Park city or better yet go to Colorado they are way cooler there
 
i skied switch at alta on saturday and didn't have a problem... and patrollers even skied by me.....

but anyway, they had so much stuff open, it was wonderful!!!! even though high t was way sketch
 
i fucked ur mom but that had nothing to do with the story because obviosly u have never skied there or have the skills to ski there

because all u ski is lame ass mountains and hit little biggity bitch cliffs
 
WOW! you should of told him to suck a dick and skied off. Oh yeah that reminds me the other i saw a ski patroller fall for no reason and blast outta his ski it was pretty funny.
 
have you ever skied at alta? 75% of the best terrain is only accessed by shitty, exposed, shitty, shitty traverses that are shitty enough with skiers who can't manage themselves well and get in the way. if you put hundreds of snowboarders trying to boot pack through the traverses it would be a huge shitshow. the logistics of allowing snowboarders at alta would require a complete overhaul of how the resort is run and laid out. the people who run alta are for the most part dope as fuck, and are ten times better than the money grubbing corporate deuch bags who run most the other resorts.
 
Well, this is just another glimpse into how unprogressive Alta is. Sure the place is gnarly and on a powder day, you can't really touch the place. But I really think that a lot of these patroller shenanigans stem from the fact that the place is holding on to an era of skiing that does not exist anymore. These patrollers would take the side of some dude from Rhode Island skiing in rear-entry boots than a season pass holder trying to push the limits of skiing at the resort. Alta is stuck in the past, and I think one day it'll catch up with the place.
 
haha, the "mountain host" at stevens tried to pull my pass for skiing switch after i slowed down to go around some kids and she plowed into me. fucking bitch, the funny thing is one of the patrolers stepped in and said he'd handle it and saved my pass. all he said is she's a bitch, watch out for people in maiz stevens coats.
 
I hate those people, they're like pseudo-patrollers with larger ego's and 98% more asshole. Are they even paid? It would totally fit the profile if they were all "volunteers".
 
they're payed i think, i think they're job is to stand in the area by the lodges and the top of chairs and help people take pictures and direct them to the right areas (ie the groomed runs and bathrooms). their sorry attemps at skiing and their assumption that they are like the second line of ski patrol is all on their own. she fucking just grabbed me in the lift line, cause i just hopped up, popped a 180 and skied away switch, and she i guess was yelling at me to stop, though i was no where near her.
 
My bad, I thought you meant the idiots in blue jackets, the "Safety Patrol" or whatever that hangs out near trail intersections and all. My comments are directed to them.
 
same as any resort in america, at my mountain they spend litterally ALL of their money on condos...all the while they have 3 DOUBLES on the real mtns and thats it. they dont care about lines or anything like that...as long as people ARE in line they are happy and making money, fucking rediculous, i think they have more condo capacity than they do space on the hill for people.
 
they may have gotten new jackets, that was like 2 or 3 years ago. same gay people who think they are the ski patrol of groomers.
 
its those damn mormans. they have a rule in their holy book prohibiting so called "backwards skiing". but its only at certain places in utah where mormans still control the woods and hills.
 
If you were cutting someone off or in a crowded area (where there may be beginners), then its understandable, but according to your post, you were in control AND in an uncrowded area... I don't get it.
 
Errr i've never been to Alta but that sounds pretty gay. I was at Snowbird last season and it was one of the best days of my life!!

How different are the two? I'd assume that they are fairly similar since they are like right next to each other right? Similar terrain?
 
alta has a little more variety of terrain. the only major differences is that snowbird has a pretty good park and snowboarders, and a tram.. alta has a smaller park (not this season ive herd though, they have none), no boarders and no tram. there are more places to hike in alta.
 
american resorts are gay little safe playgrounds u all should move to europe no rules no closed areas u can ski switch out of control and the ski patrol wont say boo to u
 
The same thing happened to me last year, except he didn't stop me, just yelled for me to "turn around" while I passed him up skiing switch. Some patrollers there a real assholes I've found out.

They just get pissed when you ski switch faster and in more control than everybody else goes forward and they see it as part of the whole "jib monkey" invasion of Alta's "traditional skiing heritage".

Sad fact is if you were dressed in tight-fitting outerwear and skiing in an out-of-control-switch-wedge stance they probably wound't say anything.
 
I would have flipped a shit on that patroler for being a prick to you. He straight up hated on you so hard, and you took it.

You shoulda defneded yourself man. It's fine they don't allow skitch skiing, but god daum was he insulting u.
 
The whole, "Lets control the populace" in a ski resort takes the fun away. Stop people skiing switch when they stop selling twintips, ass-holes.

I decided I have to reply to this one. I have been yelled at by ski patrol so many times for skiing to fast on empty slopes. One time I was even yelled at for skiing "out of control" on a mogul run. A lot of my friends and my roomates are patrollers who are very cool, but some are definately on power trips. 2 years ago I got in trouble for going up a rope toe switch. I don't think it matters where you go, you just have to deal those fools.

yean man, one time i was at camelback, PA and i was casually carvind down a totally empty run switch, and i was perfectly under control and stuff, just enjoying myself, and this ski patroller stops me, he pulled up to the side of me like some friggin cop, and blew a whistle and waved me down and shit, so at this point i was laughing, "i was like so officer was i speeding, did i run i stop sign?" haha, so he pulls me over to the side of the trail with his really annoying whistle and custom red fleece wiht red deflectors, and was like "son, what in the name of whatever are you trying to do here? skiing backwards? you could easily run over someone, you dont see, or take a out a family having a grand ol time, so im gonna have to ask you to ski normally, an never pull a stunt maneveaur like this again" and i was like, but um sir i was lookingover my shoulder, so i had full visiblity, i had perfect control of what i was doing and ther eis nobody else on the trail that could interfere wiht me, then he was like dont back talk me, ill take away your pass or report you to the other patrollers or w/e, anyway he eventually got another radio call and just told me to ski down like a normal human not some trickster punk haha, i just started back up switch again, but at this point he just didnt care, caus ehe had his other call or w/e so yeah i dont see what the problem is but, i mean if you have control of your skiing, and your not doing anythig stupid then let me ski switch haha, as for alta, well idk just do it anyway haha
 
Probably the most pointless post I have found yet.

If it is within Alta's rights as a a company to "sell their services to who they choose", then they are makeing a huge business mistake by not selling lift tickets to roughly half the people they could. That seems like incredably bad business sense. This "business" rational is therefore controled by the stockholders or private owner, and a change will only come when they want it to, most likely never as they are probably crusty old white haired white men with too much money and too many prejudices.
 
Camelback Rangers will stop you for skiing switch, they will also try to take your pass for "no Inverts" when you are cork. If you go to CB be prepared to get grief if you have any skills.
 
alright kids listen up.

even though alta has this lame rule, i am confused at why anyone cares. if the resort is gonna make those kind of decisions, you need to accept it cuz none of us are changing it. skiin switch on a groomer is (in the patrollers mind) an invitation for a crash and lawsuit. and guess who's gonna be held liable...its not the forward skiing gaper. if u wanna ski switch at alta, do a 180 over a rock, or make some fakie turns on the backside or around thirds or somethin, where there wont be a bunch of beaters, and patrollers that can easily spot you. and if u wanna hit a jump at alta, go hit stadium, or a-frame, or any of the other variations to perform skiing acrobatics.

AND to whomever is pissed about cliffs being roped off, i laugh. the cliffs most likely being roped off are ones that beaters tend to hit/fall off of. and if u hit cliffs that beaters normally hit, then i laugh again.
 
... I would say we have the power to change it. We're the consumer without skiiers coming to their hill Alta will go out of buisness.

Alright kids listen up this is how life is. You can't make a difference, you're nobody, aim low, aim so low nobody will even care if you get what you're aiming for.
 


basically all the power to change the resort is from the individuals who provide the source of funds for the resort to operate. these individuals are the tourists, not the locals.the opinion of the local is second to the opinion of the tourist, because resorts DONT PROFIT FROM LOCALS.
 
dont ride trails with people that suck on them. go where patrolers dont care because they know you are good enough, like the double black areas
