Switch Skiing No Longer allowed at Alta

"Alta Ski Area is committed to preserving and protecting the skiing experience." (on their FAQ page, http://www.alta.com/pages/faq3.php )

I really recommend you write a letter to Alta explaining the incedent. Protest the no switch skiing rule that they're apparently enforcing. If Alta was really "committed to preserving and protecting the skiing experience," they would not impose restrictions such as that.

No switch riding would be the same as not allowing parabolic skis on their hill. Restrictions like that are an absolute outrage! One which has to be met with resistance. Idiotic rules like that are an atrocity to the sport of skiing. They take away from the freedom and the expression which is what our sport is all about.

I could understand a caution if one was skiing switch completely out of control... but restricting switch skiing altogether is absolutely ridiculous.

What's next? Speed limits and photo radar, ski patrol handing out speeding tickets?! Like fuck, something has to be done.

they have the photo radar technology...check the cams they installed on teh lifts....me thinks theyre jsut watign for an incident...

This just in: Not only are Snowboarding and skiing switch not allowed at Alta, but the blacks, asians, basically anyone who isn't white, aren't allowed either.

HAHAHAAH this thread title is just hilarious, so true... i guess theyre banning XXL pants next

i can see them not lettin you ski backwards if it w3as crowded, but what the hell? alta is still the bomb, i like to ski pow forwards anyways, that why there is snowbird right there. still gay though, id do it again but then if you get stoped by a different partorlman then i would take it seriously.

this blows for you mexicans.

no fakie at alta, no inverts at half ur parks. time to move to canada fuckers.

SHA-ZAM! this is the best response, i didnt even bother reading anything after thing. yo bob dole we need to shred alta sometime this week man.

When he says: "hey why don't you learn how to ski forward before you

ski backwards; our guests don't like it when people are zooming by them

fakie." then you say: "I can ski better fakie then half the people on this run can ski forward"

dude your skiing at Alta one of the greatest mountains on earth! Enjoy it, don't worry about what some patroller said, don't ride switch when you see a patroller around

damn dude, that sucks, but its doesnt sound like somehting alta would do. Im sure thatguy is just pissed at his dad for not loving him or something...i wouldnt sweat it.

It actually sounds very much like something Alta would do. I have witnesses numerous encounters with ski patrol where they pretty blatantly trashed on freeskiers. Alta cares more about their guests than locals, which is understandable business wise, but makes for a shitty experience for us who live here. Alta is an epic mountain, just stay off the groomers away from the tourists and ski patrol.

last time a ski patroller told me to stop skiing switched, I told him he had to catch me first. I won and he told me I was fine...

wow hah that really sucks. from what i hear alta is a sick mountain, to bad its run by dicks. if they allowed snowboarders, had a park and werent assholes that would be ultimate

dude snowbird is exqctly waht you describe...same shit as alta, with snowboarderz and a park....soooooooooooo fucking sick

problem is is that they're just catoring now all to tourists. kinda bummer actually, but that's where all the big bucks are rollin in from. all they care about is how many european yuppies they can get to come and empty their wallets at alta.

ladies and gentlemen... it looks like we're gon have to find ourselves another slope.

if they stick all the gapers and joeys at alta, know what that means?

less texans in jeans, retards stuck on your landings, and less people slalom!

Ill tell you what guys, I thought longgg and hard about this and here's what its come down to. Im over it. Time to spend even more time on the sled and less at alta. I love alta, as a mountain, after skiing 3 years there and workin 1 I can't say that I love the corporate side of things.

I certainly don't disagree that from another perspective, such as the patrollers, I appeared to be skiing recklessly. But I certainly think the situation could've been handled better. A friendly attitude alone from the patroller would've been more appropriate. The only thing that really concerns me, is that I could potentially lose my pass that I have already paid for, as well as my Bird pass.

hahaha. Thats never going to happen, but its funny.

Either way, I love Alta. Its got incredible terrain, its got cliffs that are insane.

Then again... some of the decisions they make are just silly and so old school.

I mean, I understand why they dont allow snowboarders there... back when they did, they kept having to save them because they would fuck up and get stuck on cliffs.

But cmon... no freestyle terrain? any time you build a booter there, they would totally rope it off and shit like it was the 80's. I remember I went to SLC for a week last year. We shredded a day at Alta. We built a jump towards the end of the day right... The patroller comes down and tells us to leave because they are against building features and shit... I was pretty baffled by the decision, and even wrote a letter to the guys who run Alta about the whole freeskier movement and stuff.. and they gave me this bullshit that they are about 'pure' skiing and not about people purposely trying to hurt themselves, or potentailly putting themselves in that situation... (this coming from a mountain that allows you to jump off many cliffs...) Needless to say, I will not pay money to ski there again... because I see that as total bull.

Snowbird owns all over Alta in my opinion...

wouldn't they give you shit for riding on a snowboard? That seems completly gay and fucking stuck up and retarted to me. I'm sure they have great terrain but from what I've heard they're a bunch of old tools scarred of any form of progression

There are alot of people who do need to ski forward first, but that does not excuse the tone taken by the patroller. I am going by what the original poster said, he may be relaying the facts incorrectly, but I have no way of knowing that. Neither do you. Regardless, the patroller should have some respect. All he has to say is "don't ski backwards." End of story.

alta remians one of the sickest mountains in north america. and roped off cliffs? half that mountain is a cliff, and they definately don't rope shit off there.

your just pouty because you dont have an alta pass...im swinging over again soon after a day of riding there and ill for sure let you know how far down hill alta has gone...
