Surfing Edits / Anything to do with surfing

So it's that time of year again for me and others in the southern hemisphere where we have to hang up the boots and put the skis away for awhile.

I know there will be some others like me who enjoy a good surf.

So thought I would get a thread up where anyone can post a good surf story, edit, pictures from a good surf you have had, or anything else surf related.

I'll start with my favorite edit I have seen in a long time.

My season in New York ended about two weeks ago with lack of surf the past two weekends. Now it's time for skiing! But I'm heading to the Caribbean for Thanksgiving so hopefully some surf there. Edit from my home state:

^that was sick!

As for me I think I will be going 50/50 between surfing and skiing this winter in Nova Scotia. Hope we get some nice swell soon, it's been dry for 2 weeks.

I haven't been surfing in like three years and I should really get back into it.

My contribution: a buddy of mine from elementary school. He's going to school on the island an surfing weekends. Pretty jealous that he's livin' the dream.

The Caribbean would be sick ! My friend is over in Bali on a month long surf trip at the moment. Been surfing at Keramas beach for the last few days. If you don't know it honestly google it haha, I'm incredibly jealous of him after I did ( not that I wasn't beforeof his month long surf trip.

Some awesome edits as well that have been posted!

Surfing looks so much fun, have always wanted to try it.. For now I'm stuck surfing behind boats unfortunately.

My god that Sandy edit from Florida. god damn i wish it was that good in jersey when that happened. instead

everything got destroyed and all the surf spots changed. also #1 fear in

surfing for me is super steep drops like at 1:27 and if I had to go

into those waves at like 2:20 backside I would definitely grab rail and

rocket down the wave like he did. going super fast on a surfboard feels

awesome. might be the camera angle making it look steeper too.

Thanks guys, I miss surfing a lot right now and am going to have to go find more edits.

where are you going in the caribbean? ive been to puerto a few times its pretty sick minus the crowds. Hope you get some swell/no crowds

St. Thomas. Been before and know some locals, but the West Indians there can be nasty. I'm hoping that respect will help to avoid any trouble, as I don't want to get beat up. Surf there has been 4-6 feet pretty much every day for the past two weeks, but it's supposed to go down when I'm there. Hopefully some waves will be found.

I attempted a surfing thread. I've been shaping my own boards and basically riding rectangles. Rectangles are fun.

But it's about to be thanksgiving break. I want to go, but I'll die in just a 3/2 and 5mm boots, that's all I've got right now. A nor'easter is coming too, it's probably gonna bring all rain but I can hope for snow. I need to get thicker wetsuits and somebody to go with me. That also gives me a reason to shape a good wave board.

Also the vans triple crown is on, sort of. They just finished the first one, the second part is soon then it's the pipe masters, which you can watch live if you didn't know.

His home mountain is the same as mine so we're pretty close. In NY around now the waters in the upper 40s (Fahrenheit). I would be toasty in my 4/3 but I don't own booties and anyways I'm going to be down south. But it looks like its gonna be big on thanksgiving around here.

there's a storm coming up the coast. it'll probably be freezing though. cold wind, cold rain, and it'll probably bring some cold water from far out.

you guys are such kooks. if you live in ny and dont own a winter suit, much less boots, then you clearly dont surf very much.

looks like im gonna score again on the cape this thanksgiving. fucking love this holiday. but yeah, being a new england surfer my seasons off to a slow start. terrible hurricane season, but I'm looking forward to cold empty barrels that this season always brings. Weeds out the summer losers

The kiting has been phenomenal this season on the cape. I haven't been able to go in a few weeks since it's been extremely cold and I don't have a dry suit, but I was out for a while in a 4/3 with gloves, boots, and a hood earlier in November. I rode some great waves at Mayflower a couple weeks ago. Choppy and hard to navigate but some awesome breaks closer to shore near the tidal flats. Probably would've been hard to paddle into them but with a kite and a surfboard it was perfect

Wednesday should have pretty good but choppy swells, especially at places like Harding with a southern exposure. Projected to be 40+ mph wind gusting into the 70's

All this NE surf talk is killing me...wish i had the coin for a solid loadout in the winter especially considering ill be close to the cape on Thursday...

stupid college

A 4/3 could easily get you through the winter if you're a man. And also I'm skiing every weekend of the winter so can't surf really in that time. So that means I'm staying out of the water from late Nov. to April, and you don't need booties in those waters which usually should stay above 45 degrees. IMO gloves are far more important so your fingers don't go numb and you can't paddle well. If feet get cold, well their just for standing on so it doesn't really matter.

I could also ski in a t shirt with no ski boots all year but it would just be stupid. anybody whose anybody who surfs in the winter here wears at least a 5 mil becasue it just makes sense. theres nothing manly about not wearing boots for some weird reason. its ok to be a kook, dont take it personally.

If you have a 4/3 you should be alright really. I can only guess because I feel the water temperatures would be similar in winter up there as the winter temps down here but again only guessing. In winter in Dunedin they are usually about 9 - 11 C which is like what 48-51 Fahrenheit? I always get real bad brain freeze when I duck under in winter though haha

It gets down to more like 34 degrees fahrenheit which is like 1 degree celsius. But a 4/3 is doable just not for really long sessions. I was able to get a good O'niell 4/3 for like 130$ so I took the deal. And also to raull I never said booties were manly, just that they were unnecessary for water temps >45 degrees.

BTW surfline is saying 14ft for thursday morning. Gnarly. Too bad I'm missing it for smaller surf, but the warm water should make up for it.

Speaking of wetsuits, I'm having the issue of being too small and skinny. 5'5", barely 120lbs, 28" waist jeans and they're not tight. I actually have a size 14 kids suit and it fits me fine. So who's stuff generally runs small? I'm at the very bottom of all size ranges, and I'd rather a proper fitting 5/4 than a loose one. Too long legs and sleeves and too big of a chest are gonna be the issues, aka coldness.

I'd be interested to see how my latest creation handles bigger surf. Flat, wide, twin and trailer, should be all sorts of slidey and fun.

this. a solid winter suit setup is going to cost you big time. 5/4 suit with a hood, gloves and boots. And I'd wear the gloves and boots, it's going to be cold and if you intend to go all the time and surf for awhile you're going to want them.

Yeah I was just looking at that. The 2xs height is 5'6"-5'8", I'm 5'5". Waist and weight sound good, no idea on chest although I'm going to assume it'll be roomy. My current one is an oneill, but size 14, but I know that fits.

But, at least I can get away with tiny little boards all the time. Probably gonna shape myself a 5'5"x18.5x2" or something at some point, aka grom hpsb.

Just a question, how do you winter surfers on here manage skiing and surfing in the winter? I've mainly been sticking to falls because I don't want to cut into my skiing time, but I want to surf more too. If I can find a good equation I might need to invest in a thicker suit and boots. I'm torn.

What's to manage? Surf when you want to surf, ski when you want to ski. Guaranteed the water isn't going to be as crowded as a ski hill that's for sure. But there's probably more good ski days then surf days. If there's a storm go get some waves, you don't know when the waves will be back. On the other hand the snow probably isn't gonna melt for awhile.

Yeah a good 4/3 with smooth neoprene to shed moisture is really all you need. I've gotten away with only having 1 wetsuit with gloves booties and a hood and it keeps me very warm in 45 degree cloudy weather as long as the water isn't super cold. Once you get a bunch of 15 degree days like we've been having recently it's a game changer for the water temp. My kiting season is pretty much over unless we get a south wind accompanying a warm front

Yeah it's really bothering the crap out of me. I'd make the investment if I didn't go to school in upstate NY. Honestly, I've had a lot more fun surfing than I've had in the snow simply because its a new and challenging adventure.

grrr why does the 5/4 have to be over 200...last time i checked it was more expensive than buying a new snowboard, I know booties and a hood are cheaper but that too will probably be about another 100....

this past summer was my first real year surfing and i was anywhere from NH(Jenness) all the way down to Naragansett in RI.
