Surface Noise.

Will the Surface these in 175 be too long for someone that is 5'6" 185lbs, skis mostly park, in particular mainly rails and jumps

Yea.. 185lbs... Im a short stocky/fat kid lol... Im not worried about 175 but I heard that the these ski long, I like something that is a few cm shorter then what I should be on which is why I usually ski something that is a 165-170 depending on stiffness... currently I am riding a volkl wall at 169cm and I like the size... I find it a little stiff though... I was looking for something a little more playful and the these are so cheap... Im just worried that coming form a 169, a 175 surface these will feel too long...

they wont be too long. i've tried my friends and they feel pretty short. they're only like 174 which really isn't very long. 2.5 cm on either end of your skis is not going to make a huge difference. they ski shorter anyway because they are so soft.

they ski a little long on edge because the sidecut continues all the way to the tip, so the effective edge is a little longer when you're carving than most 174's, but its not really an issue and they feel fine in the park

Thanks for chiming in man - you are absolutely right about the effective edge running long. Hit me up with a PM with your address. I am gonna send you some swaggish.

what happened to the causwell store on fort union? went by that area and saw it was empty. did you guys move your ops to the "showroom 1850"?

Hey - Yeah we closed it up. We had been there for almost 6 years and it was time for a change of scenery and to be closer to home for the two of us that work there.

The Showroom 1850 is a super small place where we can work from and focus on product design/improvement and sales/marketing.

All the numbers are the same (801) 733-2655 so feel free to give us a call with ANYTHING you need.

A question about the live frees. Is this ski more of a charger or a playful ski? Some seem to day the ski is stiff as he'll whole others say soft in the tips. How's the flex compared to something like the line sfbs?

Good question for sure. The Live Free's are the built on the most versatile shape in our line. The flex isn't too stiff like New Life or One Life... much softer, forgiving and flexible... and crazy light. My touring setup weighs 10.3 lbs with bindings!

For example, I am smaller guy.. like 5' 7" and 140 lbs. and ski the 181cm exclusively no matter the condition. I have a pair mounted with Dynafit binding and a pair with resort bindings. I don't charge crazy hard lines or send big cliffs, just shred cool mini golf lines, ski powder and cut up in bounds runs and even ski them in the summer in Mt Hood (not in the park!)

Maybe that helped...??

skied on the no time for 3 days, each day for maybe 3 hours because somehow i managed to break 3 sets of bindings in that time period.

thoughts on the skis were they had a crazy stiff/lack of flex pattern and it was almost impossible to make it to the park in off piste conditions. in the park they were pretty killer on rails. on the icy east coast jumps they were nothing short of terrifying.

in such a short time, the ski is already delaminating and the edge is pulling out from the tip of the ski. I also noticed, while i was deciding what i want to do with the skis, that the edges are somehow rusting and deteriorating; literally crumbling. Its the strangest thing. they were not left out in the snow, rain, or elements. They were in my basement hanging up with all my other skis, and none of which have similar oxidation happening.

now im seriously wondering what im going to do with these skis. Is it possible they are entirely useless after only 9 hours of use?

Wait.. you broke "3 sets of bindings in 9 hours" ?? Or three pairs of skis in 9 hours?

What you should do is send us your contact info and some good photos of these skis and we will go from there: warranty@surfaceskis.com

I will keep an eye out for your email.

i appreciate it. ive heard great things about surface's warranty policy. The skis arent royally fucked but they are starting to break down a little more than typical for the amount of use theyve gotten

unrelated:

as for the bindings. Day 1, first day of the season I broke an older pair of px12s. They actually tore out of the ski (which reminds me this might be related) and the binding wasnt reading a din so they were done. Second day i shattered the heelpiece on griffons. It was -20 so i thought the plastic just couldnt withstand the cold, but when i got them back on warranty I literally exploded the toe piece within about an hour

I will send an email, thanks

We produced only 75 pairs of 185cm These for fall 13/14 and they sold out already. We definitely underestimated the demand for them.

It's funny how people talk shit about surface and then as soon as they see free product is involved they start riding dick. I drove around PC forever trying to find the surface shop. The only thing I managed to find is the 4frnt/saga building. Sad day.

No worries. For 13/14 they will be extruded like years past but for 14/15 will start sintered die-cut along with a bunch of other surprises.

looking to get the new lifes. Im 6'2 210 and ski in idaho and tahoe. Do you think the 194 would be a good fit. Im really struggling with that or the 184

Gotta be honest. The New Life 194cm is a big stiff ski... if you are on the fence about it I would get the 184cm as it will be big enough for you to charge but still small enough to spin and play around on.

Signs of fall are showing in the mountains and powy good times are in the near future. Remaining '12 Watch Life's are on preseason closeout for $219.99 - each Watch Life purchase comes with a free pair of Joystick poles!
