SUPER UNKNOWN WINNER IS....

hes sick but i think id rather see a different type of style in level1's movies since level1 already has henrik who has the same exact style as this guy on rails and jumps

Best style i saw out of any of the edits. Plus(looks like hes from sweden) its harder to get big out there since everyone over there fucking destroys. I feel like anyone who made finals that lives in canada or usa has a good chance of getting just as big.
This could be all wrong this is just what i see. I agree with you though tim, bergeron, holson ect killed it hard.

Just to be clear, I'm NOT hating on anyone. I believe that everyone worked super hard on their videos and a handful of people could easily have taken it. However, a bunch of you are saying that Niklas' style is cookie cutter and that Tim or whoever should have won. Personally, I don't feel that anyone else really stood out from the rest. How was Tim's stuff any more original/innovative than Niklas'? Or Holson, Bullet, whoever?

good choice kid slays it..i like the magic suit kind of but not having it mixed with the g suit..who does he ride for? skis?

dont get me wrong, im really stoked this kid won, hes got lots of talent, but i feel like it should have been someone else. i sure its been said in this thread a couple times now, but level1 has picked there last couple skiers based on stye, like brogan, wallisch, ya know. i feel like he is bringing nothing totally groundbreaking to skiing other than his massive bag of tricks. he blends into the whole scene of gangsters and thugs like every other kid on NS.

that's just it though. He blends in and I think that's all level 1 was trying to do here. Those "gangsters" and "thugs", they're good and let's face it, some people may not agree but the park image has become just that. It's about the 2xl clothing and looking steezy. I just don't see that changing soon. He's got a massive bag of tricks and good style. Why not pick him? I don't think all of the other edits were very groundbreaking. Besides music and clothes all the level of tricks were pretty equal besides the front runners and people behind but those are in every competition. Everyone said martin bullet was so unique. But he really wasn't. I think clothes played the most factor in that. All factors aside besides style and tricks, I think berman picked a good winner.

i believe you are wrong.kids are realizing that they are white, that skiing is not about how many x's you have before you l. i know im hungry for a new type of style, that why marty bullet stuck out to me above everyone else, and im sure more kids are catching on. and to me, why would you want a kid to blend in if its your business to set trends in skiing? idk, just some thoughts ive been wanting to share. but i also wear the tight pants.

I do agree with you. I guess i'm trying to say that most skiers will set trends, but in xxl clothing. I personally don't wear that baggy stuff I do think it's kinda dumb, but a lot of people drool over 4xl tall tee's. there's nothing wrong with that I mean it's their choice. I guess it's hard to tell what's gonna happen but no matter what hopefully skiing will always still be based on style and their bag of tricks.

I hope as well. This winner makes me think it'll be a lot of the same wannabe gangster style crap that most of their riders bring.

But hopefully not. This winner is definitely anything but refreshing, just another Twall, Brogan, lookalike if you ask me.

ok..... so will one of the people complaining about niklas' "cookie-cutter" style please point out something, anything, done by the other finalist that was more unique (not to mention aesthetically pleasing) than his sw double (and yah, i know his double wasnt in his superunknonw edit but so what).
Also, I've gotten the impression that those clamouring for "change" or "something new" really mean Marty Bullett. I'm sorry, but not a single thing about marty is new or fresh. Let me rephrase that, TIGHT PANTS DO NOT MAKE YOU UNIQUE! No pants, or disco pants would give you unique style, but not tight pants. Plenty of skiers (and about 70 percent of skateboarders and 100 percent of emo kids) rock that look. Marty is good, exceptional even. But clothes do not a skier make.

pants do give you style, its your expression and thought that you putting into your skiing, thus, your style.

is it a coincidence that berman saw this kid kill it at joi with the craziest double ever and then picked him? probably not.

Everyone who has mentioned this has alluded to the notion that it's a bad thing. This kid's got some sick tricks that he can pull consistently on big jumps that will look really good on film. Why wouldn't Berman pick him? Granted being in JOI may have given him somewhat of an unfair advantage, but who cares? Berman is trying to pick the skier who will look the best on film. None of the other guys in Superunknown have tricks like that.

the funny thing about superunknown is that more or less every finalist is a winner. Ahmet, Cosco, Beaulieu, Lesh, Bergeron, and last but certainly not least-Nick Martini- have all bounced back by....well by becoming pretty known.

for real. if someone had posted that edit and just said it was henrik, no one would have doubted for a second.
i mean, dude is REALLY sick, no doubt, but hes been dippin into harlauts closet as well as his trick bag..

keep in mind this is a chance to participate in a PARK SHOOT, not urban shoot, at least for this year.

Berman's big concern--even with wallisch-- was not being able to hit enormously huge jumps. He said in a Freeskier interview that even though Tom could do 900s on boxes and switch 7s on 45 footers, he didnt show footy of massive booters. Fortunately, since Tom had like 100 million views on his vid, it helped him win, and Berman was thankful.

Berman--IMO--wants to give unknown kids a chance to slay BIG jumps, and Niklas showed his talent of hitting big jumps, which stood out. I think Tim McChesnuts is going to blow up anyway like Nick Martini because he is already involved in a ton of filming. And if he does NOT blow up soon, I will personally call up a bigname company and tell them to sponsor this slayer.

Sick. Such smooth style and his double is really really dope. It'll look great in the one or two shots he gets in the new movie. Realistically he probably won't get a full seg, so the one banger trick was probably the deciding factor.
All of the entries pretty much were exactly the same. Bullet was different, but only in his image. There weren't any really unique styles for Berman to choose from. I think he made a good choice.

He did have right spinning in this super unkown. One example off the top of my head is forward cork 7s right after each other, one left, one right.
Wallisch can also do all four 10s... that's fucking crazy.

Yeah, look at Martini now.. shooting with PBP. If level 1 only saw the calibur of that kids talent, they would have had a damn good superunknown winner. Skiing is definitely on the same level as wallisch..

With that being said, I don't think Tim, Bergeron, Berman, or any of the other kids that slayed have much to worry about. theres plenty of time for them to blow up.

He already said that he didn't choose Martini because he already won jib academy or something like that and was already too well known. Berman definitely recognized the talent.

HAHAHAHAHAH

that was not REFRESHING at all

He was wearing a G SUIT LOLOLOL - most played out jacket since the orage blue/white TJ pro jacket

He has the exact same style as EVERY OTHER SKIER on NS. He does the same trick as every other kid on NS. Maybe he was a little better in the air than most other entries, but seriously that was the least innovative edit there. He pretty much just looked like a Henrik wannabe. I'm sure Henrik has every single one of those tricks he threw in the bag, and can do them waaaayyy better. Seriously I'd rather buy a movie with double the Henrik time, rather then with this kid in it.

Honestly when T wall and Brogan won, they brought something new to the table. This kid brought nothing innovative at all to the table. Both T walls and brogans superunknown edits are way better than this wannabe.

He's a great skier skill wise though. No doubt about it. Good job, your a good skier.

the kid slays for sure, he did some unreal tricks, one of the best dubs out there, but he look like just like every other kid with the G suit it just pisses me off a little..... I mean Tim had an unreal urban section....some say his jumps lacked a little but give him year and he will be one of the best out there...... i donno i am stoked for him but at the same time..... i would have liked to see Tim win... NO HATE just what i thought

o hahah so funny. Would you take a g suit for free? yes. Magic suit? yes
They only other style that looks a little like his is henriks and not that much at all. hes got his own style. Plus that double is super innovative, just another way to look/do a double.
You are a fucking dumbass, why the fuck would berman choose this guy if it was a terrible choice. He obviously, as eheath said saw something in this kid. So shut the fuck up.

I like how you absolutely shat on this kid for a couple of paragraphs and then threw out the obligatory back handed compliment to seem like less of a dick.
First of all, though it wasn't in his edit, that double flat is a completely original trick. I've never seen anyone else do it. Fair or not, Berman saw this kid throw that trick, and he would be stupid (as a filmmaker) to not take it into consideration. Previous winners have only gotten on average a handful of shots on spring park setups...with that in mind, this kid is a perfect choice. I know I'd rather see a heli shot of that trick, than of another dub cork, sw dub rodeo, or kang flip.
Also, I think he was arguably a cut above the majority of the front runners in terms of pure jumping overall. He grabs the shit out of everything, and FOREVER. I definitely think there were better "all-round" entries that showed a wider array of skills...(example - Tim's urban assault), but frankly I think the talent gap was so slim between the best 5 that any of them would be justifiable.
Wannabe? That's just bullshit. Superunknown is practically a wannabe contest. As far as the g-suit thing, I think I read that Henrik actually gave him his jacket. He probably worships Henrik as a fellow swede who blew up, can't blame him for wanting to rep. I just don't understand why you're being so harsh.
For better or worse, the finalist's edits were all pretty similar in terms of the superficial stuff like clothing style, music selection, and vibe. Trust me, by the third or fourth vid featuring a crystal castles or weezy track AND a g-suit I was shaking my head in disbelief...but, I could still recognize the talent of the riders. The obvious exception would be Bullet. A lot of people are pushing for him to win based seemingly solely on the fact that he dresses like a Surface rider. I think he looks fine and I can appreciate his left of center steeze, and I'm definitely a bit sick of seeing kids sort of blindly follow the park dress code, but to me, nothing about his riding screamed originality or progression. He slayed, and his vid was a nice changeup, but I don't think the decision should be based on such a stupid thing as clothing style. If you (and others) don't wanna see "gangster" skiing (a term that is absolutely fucking stupid and largely inaccurate as most of the skiers who get that label are incredibly ungangster despite big clothes...whole other thread), don't buy a Level 1 flick. Download Hot Lunch or watch Nimbus stuff. Problem solved.
To close up this ridiculously long post, I think everyone was very good (my fav was Matt L. for the record) and this kid deserved as much as anyone. To rip him a part is bullshit.
