My bad if this has been posted already.

Anyway, apparently these are pictures of the highly anticipated '08 subaru impreza WRX hatch, which has been completely redesigned based on the new generation legacy chassis. What do you guys think?

Me, I'm glad I bought an RS in 06 while they still looked like subarus and not mazdas. IMO the grill on this thing is really fucking ugly.

that's a mazda :(

the subaru is still significantly different but what I always liked about subarus is that they look like nothing else on the road, and this car has neither that nor any lines reminiscent of any previous impreza body style.

I'm hoping the STi will look better. I think they are still going to offer a sedan version too, so we'll see...

YES! I couldn't think of what attracted me to it and why I thought it looked like a beamer, but now I see that it's the side profile. It's almost X3 like.

i realy like the new hood scoop design. but i dont like the fact that they are making it more of a wagon. wrx has a wagon trim. you can get the top of the line Legacy wagon. why the fuck make the wrx a wagon/suv? the STi looks like that too and they ahve a redic wing on it.

After some more research, it looks like they are probably going to be releasing a sedan here in the US for both the RS and the WRX, but the STi will be a hatch like this because that's what the WRC car will be.

Hatches are huge in WRC these days, I guess. But I am having trouble seeing how they will make a sedan out of this thing.

I like the new headlights, as I've always been a fan of the old RS's. However, the body is a disgrace. Subaru, Mazda and Nissan are all starting to make the same goddamn car.

I don't feel like playin' PS tonight, but take that PT cruiser/chrysleresque craptastic chrome grill out of that thing and slap something darker in and I think that front end would look many times better. One of the few times where I think some black honeycomb or mesh could do wonders for a stock car in this bracket.

boo. that looks like shit, they completely lost their rear pillar, -1 for rear wheel support. and thats actually not the hatch, thats the new wagon, hatch is 2 door.

I like how the evo X is shaping up, much more than the new wrx. The 08 cars look less aggressive than their predecessors.

I'm not a fan of the new Evos or Imprezas. I liked the 03-05 design for the Impreza the most by far, but I suppose appearance really doesn't matter when you're behind the wheel.

the grill looks like some kind of ford grill, and at a quick glance, it looks just like the damn mazda, but, after more examination, it looks pretty fun to drive

i dunno about anyone else, but the stuff squeakywaffle posted does not look like an actual photo. some of the stuff posted lower down in the thread looks more accurate.

to throw this out there too, especially with mention of the new evo X, wtf is with car companies and sequential transmissions?! ok. so they are a few tenths faster off the line than a comparable 5 or 6 speed. but if im buying a sports car, its for the fun factor, and NOTHING is more fun than slamming gears and the total control you get with a manual. its fine that they are offered, and in my mind should replace traditional automatics in any kind of sporty car, but companies completely eliminating manual transmissions from their models is ridiculous. my dream car, the new Volkswagen R32 comes with the DSG only, and for that reason alone, i would never consider buying it. and the new lancer will be optional with, (this is lame), a close ratio 5 speed. wtf is a 5 speed doing in a lancer evo? especially one with tight ratios. thats gonna kill highway performance, as well as drop top speed numbers. that car should at least be a 6. ugh, i just hate that americans and the automakers that cater to them are sooo lazy that they cant even learn to shift gears. i will never in my life own another automatic, shit, i get scared driving in them with no clutch.

I'll wait until I see official pictures. There have been so many pre-production mules and photochops posted I don't know what to think. Hopefully they won't fuck it up, I'm not really a fan of the 06/07s right now, I like my bugeye the best. I just wish the wagon got the wider fenders.

im thinking maybe i should not get an 03 evo and wait till the evo x comes out. that thing is a beast. very cool looking. the new rex looks like shit

I also reserve my judgement until I see an official press release photo from Subaru. I have always liked the past generations of WRXs/STIs. My least favorite has been the most recent one though. The STI has such a hold on the market though, the new model could come out looking very mediocre and it would still sell...

hatchbacks are usually the gayes of the cars.. i like sedans.. or sports cars better.. i wanna get a 1986 BMW, or a 2007 jetta

Well after reading a little more on NASIOC, these may indeed be real pics, or at least something that is really close. If so, I'm fucking appalled. I'll never buy another WRX or STi, doesn't matter how sweet the car is if it looks like this. The 06/07 was bad enough.

Also, Subaru is apparently no longer bringing legacy wagons to North America (or the US at least) so if you want an 08 wagon you have to get an outback, which isn't that bad, but it's not going to have the 2.5T engine available with a stick. So I'll have to buy an 06/07 which don't look as good.

My question is why the fuck can't they bring this to North America?

I would place my order immediately, despite the fact that I have very little money and the resale on my WRX wouldn't even cover half the price. It's fucking beautiful. But alas, they will probably not bring it here and I'll buy an older stick 2.5GT legacy wagon or pony up and buy an Audi. I really wish Subaru wasn't as stupid as they are.

^ That thing made me salivate. So damn nice, I totally would go for a legacy wagon, had I the funds and if they were available.

the front looks like they forgot to finish putting it together. From the side it looks like a impala/Mazda 6 with some 18" wheels. and from the back it a commuter car with a ugly wing.

Thats how i cant like it!

they are bringing legacy wagons, theyre just renamed the outback. outback has always meant an off-road package a slight suspension lift.....to end confusion.....subaru has renamed all wagons the ouback... so u can now get a legacy outback....which is the same as a legacy wagon. they did all this to end confusion...noone ever knew what outback ever meant anyways.....its not a model.....its a performance/off-road kit...why would they pull one of there best selling models from the biggest car market in the world? now that would be just dumb

i know all this because i just bought a 07 wrx, and spent a lot of time dealing with subaru. the 04-05 rexes are the best time, but i think the new models will grow on me. i used to hate the new audi's, but now i love em.

and by the way, they are releasing the 08's early(everything but the impreza/wrx/sti)....so youll be able to see the new models in person in about a month

yall see the sti limited too....that things sick(only 800 of em tho)

If I can get an outback without the tradition "outback" plastic crap on the side then thats good. It would be even better if I can get the 2.5L turbo engine with a stick, preferably 6sp. You know if thats possible? With VDC? If so, my dreams are coming true.

no, they make outback wagons and legacy wagons I do believe. The outback has slightly higher roof line, and larger back seats, and the legacy has a different suspension, and is lower to the ground and has a smooother ride. I'm pretty sure they're different

like it's the same frame and everything, but outback has always meant the higher lift and all the off road shit. you're saying that they're just ditching the legacy wagon, so you can no longer buy the lowered, better cornering wagon? So if you want a wagon you have to get the outback?

The other photos posted are confirmed photochops. My pictures are maybe cleaned up a little and oddly lit but they are most likely the 08 as it will be officially unveiled in a few days and automakers usually give the press an opportunity to photograph the vehicle before then.

Thats what I'm afraid of. I think its confirmed in the US, I'm hoping we still have the option in Canada. As well as the option of the 5sp.
