Stratton Crew 2015/2016 Season

Hey Guys,

I'm moving in November about an hour and a half from Stratton, and couldn't pass up the $350 season pass there. I've only been there a couple times, and don't really know the mountain or the area, so I'm looking to meet up with people to ride with this season.

Always down to buy a round at the end of the day, or send it first to guinea pig a jump.

Let me know whenever you're up there and looking for someone to ride with.

You seem like a rad dude to ride with, I'm always down to meet up. I have the Double Down pass so I hit up Snow and Stratton usually every weekend, I'll probably be able to get up there during weekdays with my work flexibility this season. Been riding these mountains since I was super young so I could definitely show you some spots.

Same here...home mountain up all the time almost every weekend. We should get a Stratton NS crew to ride around with sometime

I know some awesome spots around the mountain especially if the snow is supposed to be as much as they say the nino will drop. Parks are ok...never that good till mid season though.

yea parks have been subpar ever since they took out lower middlebrook and the small parks under amex but big ben and suntanner have been pretty good in recent years. There are a lot of great spots around the mountain especially cliff jumps and in the trees. Super fun all around tho and should be sick with El Nino

You guys should use my repcode on the double down. It saves you money and it takes 2 seconds. Cmckenna

gotta buy it though mount snows site though for it to work. But if it's the double down it doesn't matter

Parks have been downhill since Supertrail was terminated. And it was going down hill fast when they decided to get rid of byrneside park. The fact that they dont even build a halfpipe anymore is terrible. Use to love suntanner with their 4 jump lineup and then the pipe at the bottom. Stratton's parks are build by boarders and you can tell based on how all the rails are setup.

I agree. good stashes in the woods to be found but dont go telling people!

I managed to get up there this weekend. Here's my thoughts on opening day.

Opening weekend at Stratton. One trail, lots of joeys and a single flat box which looked to be setup by a 12 year old who never stepped foot on a mountain. The way i see it, i guess it can only get better from here.

Good to see that lodge done.. lol oh wait.. grizzly's isnt even close to being done. They still have construction equipment in the space and the decking isnt even done. But hey, how about that overpriced local lighting that no one cares about.. great waste of 9mil if you ask me.

I was up on opening day as well. Concur with your statements. One trail...shitty conditions and SO CROWDED. So so many little kids and joey's everywhere. Fun to make turns though. There is a single box (the long flat one they have) which is set up ok. Horrible spot but fun to do top to bottom laps and hit the box.

Hope weather is better and colder. We need some serious snow before the holiday break time when it gets reallly crowded.

Heading up for first of the season next weekend so hoping they get some more cover this week so its actually somewhat enjoyable. All you can do is pray for snow at this point. And so much for "jibbing your heart out" with the one box setup...

Got my first turns in today. Not too impressed but it was still fun. There's only a few options with black bear, polar bear, north American and villager being the main ones. Conditions were pretty rough with ice and very soft snow but thats expected with the current weather situation (ugh). They did seem to improve the one park setup that they have by the cub carpet. Theres still the flat box but they added a flat rail, a rainbow box, a cannon kinked tube, and a little pole jam with slanted walls. It was pretty fun day but we desperately need more snow. The forecast does not look so good for this week with it still projected to be in the high 40s so all you can do is pray.

Sunday wasnt a terrible day. If you stuck to the sides of the trails it was good. Thankfully they had 3 runs open to spread people out. The park setup is super weak. While it is fun to jib around on, i think they could have done better and put it on frank's fall line like they have done years ago to make it a better setup. I only went through it once as it had all sorts of park rats just hiking it trying to become the next pro.

Gunna head up for this weekend. Good to know they have more trails open and a few jibs. Would be nice to take lower mountain laps but that caterpillar so annoying and amex still closed down.

Prob gunna bring up my carvers and rip all morning and jib in the afternoon

Just saw online they are having the same trail count as opening weekend for the most part except for polar bear. So fucking annoying....Get bored after like 3 hours of skiing. Not worth the drive up for the weekend. Hopefully we get some more snow soon el nino relaly fucking us over

The forecast for this week is not good. I can anticipate this upcoming weekend will be any good. last weekend was like spring conditions and there are way to many racers and ski schools going to have any fun on 3 trails

Warm weather forecasted basically through new years. Going to be a horrific season unless it turns cold and we have a HUGE january/february. Pretty disappointing but I think it mainly can be attributed to the biggest el nino in recorded weather history. Sucks but well bounce back from it.

well... sunday the 20th was snow making, snow making and more snow making. so much so that even if the gun was shooting water, they kept it on. as for the park, its gone. no box or rail to be found. managed to find some natural snow and soft snow on the skier right of franks fall line and lapped it half a dozen times before other caught wind of it. 14 runs by 1130 and called it after a $7 beer at grizzly's.

also... grizzly's is no longer serving single slices but charges now $14 for a "person pizza"

looks like ill be bringing a camping grill and a cooler for the sunbowl now..once it opens that is.

side note, took my bacons out for the first day and loved every minute of the new SFB at 184cm. the 104mm waist carves so well and handles the crappy early season without issue.

I was think about picking up a pair of 190s once they go on sale. I'm guessing you would recommend them haha?

without a doubt. im 5'10" and got the 184 and mounted it at recommended. probably could have done 2cm back from that line for more all mountain but im extremely happy with them. coming from a 181 rossi slat this was the perfect ski to go to. line measures shorter than what they list, my 184s measured 182 with straight tape. The 190 will probably be closer to a 188

You try them in the park at all yet? Definitely considering getting a pair as well.

lol i tried to at stratton sunday but they took all the park features out! according to their website they are putting 6 new features back in though so only time will tell. Im heading out to whistler next monday so thatll be the first test of my mordecais though.

Yea we definitely need it. They even said they are taking out the park setup so they can use that snow for other areas.

Parks 100% gone. No rail to be found. Its truly awful right now. Worse than opening day. We need some serious snow. But the weather forecast changes everyday...I think like 3-6 will fall tomorrow I dont think muchmore.

What would be your prediction fellas of say Jan 2nd-3rd? Worth a 4 hour drive (day trip)? Its hella tantilizing to sit on yo ass in the middle of a season :(

We're getting there... 26 "trails" open by tomorrow and 2 parks. Just need some more real snow to improve conditions.

Anyone headed up to Stratton next weekend, just looking for some people for me and my friend to shred with. Not into park but its looking like we may have some new snow coming next weekend. Let me know if any of you guys are down, got a season pass at Stratton also.

May be up Saturday riding solo. Have a season pass also. If im up would love to shred with some bros

ill be up there sunday. sunbowl is opening this weekend and supposedly another "park" hopefully this time with jumps and flow and not just another rail jam setup that stratton seems to have fallen in love with.

Yea they always seem to be about the one hit setup.

I'm going to hit up sugarbush Friday and ski Stratton Saturday Sunday, anyone down to ski either sugarbush or Stratton with me this weekend?

Stratton keeps mentioning a third park opening up this weekend on their snow report. If anyone has info on this supposed third park and whether or not there will be any, at least, medium jumps that would be much appreciated because it will help me determine where I'm going to ski on Saturday. I have a Stratton pass but would rather pay to shred Nitro at Mount Snow on Saturday if Stratton still isn't going to have any jumps. Thanks!

99% sure it's gonna be Tyro. Most likely gonna be small jumps if at all.

How is the other two parks now? Any decent rails up or smaller jumps?

Well that is a major bummer. Thank you for the insight though. I don't know Stratton always chooses to wait so long into the season before putting up any kind of legit park setup. I'm now one year too old for the double down pass and it really sucks.

Stratton hasnt had a legit park in years. ever since they killed off the supertrail and lower middlebrook parks they have focused on the rail jam style of crap and really small family friendly features like on old smoothie but even that trail is gone this year for park.

More than likely they will make a push to get suntanner setup with some jumps for their shitty vermont open for snowboarding ever since they lost the burton US Open.

honestly, if you want good park, go to mount snow just 20 minutes down the road. for me, ive ventured into just skiing woods and bushwacking new glades wherever i can find them.

stratton needs to build a trail for a park that has flow like a slopestyle course. they should try to replicate nitro or gulch at mt snow if they want any chance of having a good park. big ben was a solid attempt but they close sunbowl during the best park season, spring...

I liked the jumps they had on Suntanner last year. There were three in a row and they were well built with big landings. It was also pretty empty most of the time and easy to lap which was great. I'd be stoked if they had that setup again this year but I just hate having to wait so long for them to be up.

I know Mt. Snow is way better for park, but I'm too old to have the double down pass so I had to go with the Strattitude this year, hence my predicament.

i hear ya. thats why i got the sunday pass. its my only day off as well so it works out. the suntanner jumps were fun, but they use to have superpark with much better features. They should really bring back the suntanner park as a medium park with a 12-15' pipe at the bottom and then put the pro park back on byrneside. that boardercross trail is the worst thing ive ever seen. its terrible, short, and has no difficulty.. its a family crap trail just to say they have one. the boarder cross they use to have in sunbowl to the skiers left of the sunrise 6 pack chair was the best. it was actually fun, fast and pro level.

now i just go in the woods and find side stashes making the mountain a playground instead of the park.

Agreed. The old suntanner park was amazing back in the day. Such a good mix of rails and some awesome large jumps. The Bus feature was the glory days of the park. Plus the pipe at the bottom.
