Stratton Crew 2015/2016 Season

Same here...home mountain up all the time almost every weekend. We should get a Stratton NS crew to ride around with sometime

I know some awesome spots around the mountain especially if the snow is supposed to be as much as they say the nino will drop. Parks are ok...never that good till mid season though.

Anyone have an update on the park setup?

yea I'm either at Mt. Snow pretty much every Sunday, Saturdays occasionally. I hit Stratton yesterday though for a change of pace, and I was pleasantly surprised. Parks were clean, and built properly. Had a nice rail to wallride, flat to down rail, and a quad kink right next to the six person lift that I hit a bunch of times. The park to the left if youre looking up to the mountain was on point too. Lots of fun features.

Maybe they seemed super nice because it poured all day and I was like the only one on the mountain.

that being said, lets rip sometime boys

Anyone have an update on the Suntanner setup or if Stratton is looking to add anything new for this weekend? They barely ever mention the existence of parks on their website or social media so it's always hard to figure out. Thanks in advance!

Was up this weekend...park is AWFUL. They have one setup on suntanner which is pretty fun. A few variations of downrials / big tube downrail and a box. Only a little jib section.

Tyro is absolutely disgusting. No flow to the park they just tried to cram as many things as possible into the run. It isn't particularly enjoyable. If you want to ski park go elsewhere.

hopefully the storm saturday produces the foot they are expecting it to. cant wait to get back up to stratton this sunday! good to see sunbowl is open. hopefully woods all day.

yea you are right, they dont mention anything about park ever except they are in a usa today contest for some odd reason (basically just paid to be on the list) since their park sucks this year and they put no effort into it.

they started building the "boardercross" trail.. aka roller city.... gone are the days of difficult features and big jumps

13607850:trevorschu said:
Tyro is pretty crammed but better than nothing. If you want park updates follow the park crew on Insta @strattonparks

They never update it enough...really annoying but they had a pic of the pipe cutter out...maybe they build another pipe or at least a smaller one those are always fun since the big ones are pretty dam hard honestly.

Stratton needs to come back to NS for park updates, suggestions, etc. Tyro is just god awful. No flow and so crammed.

I would love it personally if they would start shaping the side of the tyro jumps and rails kinda like park city so you can jump to makeit more flowy.

I wish they would join NS (were they ever on NS?) or at least be open to input by us but they're all boarders so thats not gonna happen and the mtn really caters more towards families which is why I think they have reduced parks over the past few years. The last thing they want is a bunch of park rats on the mtn.

Like there used to be parks all over with east meadow, lower middlebrook, big ben, sunriser, smoothie etc. but now its pretty much just Tyro and Suntanner which of course are both right near the base. The whole park situation is pretty sad to see but I've just gotten used to it by hitting glades and cliffs (which is pretty tough this year haha) and some natural features.

Also, I think they took a pic of the pipe dragon since they are probs gonna build another small pipe for the VT Open in March, which no surprise is boarders only.

100% agree...they cater to families now with amazing groomers I must say and the unlimited budget crowd. They do not want any park rats really at the mountain messing around clearly.

That being said...why would they develop a crazy park at this point it makes no sense for them. Mt Snow has the best park in the east and its 20 minutes away. Stratton no way shape or form wants the park crowd snow attracts at their mountain.

Really wisht hey would build just one solid jump line and a nice rail line. Last years big jumps on suntanner I thought were so subpar. The last one which was the biggest had such a massive take off for its size I over shot it all the time.

Yea one truly solid lap-able park would be nice. Was Stratton ever on NS?

Yea they were on here a while back..had to be maybe like 4 or 5 years ago or longer. Sucks they aren't here anymore. But that is the way they want to appear...an upperclass family mountain somewhat like an east coast Vail type resort.

Mt Snow is the east coast park king no doubt....Stratton has no interest attracting that crowd on their slopes.

well.. i have to hand it to stratton.. the suntanner park is back and better than ever featuring a medium line and a large line with the last of four jumps being a solid 55 to the knuckle.

photos from their facebook page show it all

oh and did i mention that it flows like a slopestyle course so you just flow through and the 4 pack of jumps are really close together so you gotta be on your game. nice work stratton parks crew

Yea kinda bugs me that the jumps are so close but still gotta hand it to em.

niiiicee. Looks awesome and such a great change of pace from the past few years. Pumped to throw down on some larger jumps and the rail line looks fun as well.

there are four medium jumps after that right side box line too. and right after the last jump you can cut across to tyrol too.

Giving a little update....park is so fun right now. Didn't ride it to hard this weekend since im going otu west next week..but its very very solid and has good flow.

Rails up top are pretty fun.

I thought the jumps were straight money. I threw some 3's over the first 2 and aired out the other 2 on the big line. The big line last 2 jumps are pretty dam big and landings are really nice.

Also the medium line is a great size for learning / practicing.

Mini pipe is garbage fun to mess around in but still I think a big waste of space. At least build it up another few feet so you can air out the top like a normal pipe.

And the little spine thing on the bottom is awesome. It sends you up SOO high

Fuck Mother Nature/El Niño. 10 inches last week then subzero temps then another 3 inches last night now 50s and rain. Fuckkk.

Whats this weekends outlook like? Have been out west so haven't been up in a few weeks. How are the parks? Jumps still good? Worth going up at all with all this warm weather and rain?

Yea as long as you avoid warm/rainy stretches its still pretty good. I skied today and you wouldn't really even know that it rained/was warm this past weekend. Parks are still decent but wished they changed them up every once in a while and added some more features. In terms of forecast, this week looks pretty good besides thursday (50 and rain) but the weekend should be OK.

So they have this festival on April 9th/10th that advertised skiing and snowboarding being available. Does anyone else think this seems like a longshot? The event promoters are pushing being able to ride pretty hard and feel like they are going to let a lot of people down

There is a lot of rain and warm temps in the long range forecast. April 9/10 seems like quite the stretch at this point. My money is on a 3/27 closing date.

they will not make it if we get all the rain predicted next week with the 65 degree temps.. hell even this weekend may be the last..

on that note. the park is sick and the jump line is fun as hell. 3rd jump is a bitch to get over compared to the fourth but fun all around. had a bunch of kids doing big things there sunday. whoever the kid in the gray hoodie throwing switch rodeo 5s was, props man. and you also threw the slowest 3 off the last jump ive ever seen. keep up the good work!

and if anyone wants some skis, im selling my bacons since ive been riding my rossi scratches all year. willing to meet up at stratton for the sale toohttps://www.newschoolers.com/forum/thread/824568/2016-Line-Sir-Francis-Bacons--184-Used-Once

It was probs Bennie Osnow. He shreds hard and he's like 15. Goes to SMS too.

Any idea if Suntanner will be open this weekend? Website says they are shaping it up for the vt open for snowboarding. Would be a bummer if they shut down the bigger jumps

They used the bigger jumps last year so I'm guessing they will stay open. I think they are also maybe expanding the pipe for the competition. As for this weekend, I think suntanner should be good to go. Looks like our last weekend below freezing so enjoy it boys.

i really hope they dont get rid of the jumps to make that stupid banked slalom course.. they should really just use the boardercross trail

Agreed. The big line won't be good till it warms up anyways. This weekend was rock solid ice. Had no interest in sending those jumps with landings as hard as rocks

i was hitting them sunday and they were pretty decent. really love that 4th jump.

glad to see the boardercross is where the banked slalom will be.

Agreed. Saturday was like a rock. Just threw some 3's and what not off the small jump line didn't feel like risking injury off the big ones.

Go way to drunk sat night and didn't make it out skiing sunday haa

Looking to be a slushy sunny park day sunday!

On their instagram one of the diggers said yesterday that suntanner is going to be closed all weekend for VT Open. I wouldn't mind that much if there were some medium jumps or something anywhere else on the mountain but of course there aren't because Stratton blows. Never buying a pass there again.

Saturday is the only day it should be closed due to the slopestyle and shitty pipe contest. Sunday is only the banked slalom competition and thats on byrneside. Im hoping they are wise and open suntanner that day to the public. if not, its closed for no reason that day.

Holy shit! Go look at the snow report mid mountain cam online. Stratton took A BEATING from this heat and rain.

We may not make it to the end of March at this rate. There is an insane amount of brown coming through.

yea this season a done after this weekend. no temps below 30 in the 10 day either.

hopefully get some slushy park laps sunday and then just tune the skis to put them away. Id really like to spin over the 4 jump line.

I spun the first 2 last weekend but it was insanely icy not even fun. But surprisingly are all really nice jumps. The medium line on the right side is fun too for trying new grabs, etc...but the kickers send you really far down the landing.

But yea...super bummed the season is done. If they are open in 2 weekends I might go than. But after seeing that mid mountain cam we are fucked.

Just booked a trip out west in 3 weeks to get some solid sprin gskiing in...need to settle the cravings before summer

they closed the park down on sunday so they could plow over all the jumps they built for the vt open and waste all the money they spent building up the features for a day.

what a waste.

yup i was there. and they claim it was for our safety.. that cant be true if they had a comp on it the day prior and it didnt drop below freezing overnight with zero rainfall. they are more than likely plowing it all for the stupid 24hrs of stratton. so even though they claim they are going to rebuild, itll be tyro and it'll suck.

dammm...was planning on heading up this weekend just for the purpose of throwing down off some bigger jumps. What a bummer. Classic Stratton...waste a crap ton of money building up a huge park and than just tear it down like a month later. Than again I rarely saw anyone go off any of the big jumps or rails so probably is a good move for the 24 hours.

lol you didnt see anyone because you and i were on opposite days of the weekend.

as a side note, mount snow will have lift tickets for $50 sunday if you buy one now online and its also pay your age day if you are under 18 for you youngsters.

Eh i'll stick to Stratton. My home mountain and a big fan of it besides the parks obviously which I don't even spend my entire day in anyways.

Dont want to pay again for a pass when I have the season pass. I'll prob just go shred around the mountain Saturday and spin a few laps through tyro. Was really looking forward to boosting off that last suntanner jump though...my only big jumps I have hit this year was at Squaw on the gold coast line

that last jump was the best jump on the mountain. at 60ft it had the right takeoff and a landing that just went on forever. i took it to the bottom a few times and still had landing space.

truly is a shame the plowed it all.

Agreed. I sent it a few times as well and was really nice. The first 3 had take off's way bigger than the actual jumps. Always felt slow coming in even though I would land fine
