Stop using Adblock!

I think NS is now testing my endurance. I'm getting 45 second commercials before videos....

Seems like a bit of an overkill, but still not enough to make me use adblock

the whole reason I got adblock is because my internet is shitty and the ads before videos on ns would take way longer to load than the actual video itself. no way am I taking it off so I can wait 5x the time I should to watch videos and so some guys can make $80 000 from me watching other people's videos.

Yeah it was those First Drop ads that finally led to me getting adblock on my school laptop - if I was looking at porn ads with naked chicks is understandable (although I'm still not a fan), on sites I tend to browse in public they made me uncomfortable. Of the websites I spend a large portion of time browsing NS is the only one with ads that I'm bothered by. Plus they seem to be steadily getting worse - both less relevent (eg. weight loss or dating sites for the wrong gender) and more flashy/moving ones so they're in your face and take away from the site's experience.

If NS could use something like facebook where we could x out of ads we didn't like and not get them again that would be amazing. Then they could still get the revenue from me viewing ads, but if there was one that I found either uncomfortable or abnoxious I wouldn't have to see it. Because I would like to support the site, but me avoiding it due to the ads doesn't help either party.

done and done. now i feel bad for using adblock for so long, but i had no idea i was being so dickish to ns

So by that logic, if I were to use Adblock, it wouldn't matter because I never would have clicked the ads in the first place, correct?

For the record, I do not have Adblock on.

The site isn't mad, Bishop simply said that ADBlock costs them money. Can't blame him for wanting people to be aware of it if they didn't know.

It was eheath that got his panties in a twist, which is nothing new at all. He was born angry and he'll die angry. This was just another angry mile on the highway of his life, try not to get too bent out of shape over it.

mind you i never use adblock, but is it better to have adblock off and (or not even) fake-click on it and hurt the companies that buy the space? couldnt care less about those horseshit companies tho, but there are also ski companies advertising here.

how about we switch to pay per click as long as all members promise to click on a bunch of ads every time we're on.....

seriously though. are we pay per click or pay for exposure?

yes, so turn off adblock and help support the site most of you spend more time on than with your families. It's not that big of a deal, honestly :)

I wouldn't trust him on that. Bishop is the guy with the answers, most of us just speculate (Evan probably has the best idea, I have a little, as we're both paid by NS for ad revenue)

cost per click is generally used for conversion where cost per exposure is usually used for brand awareness.

with that said on every page on ns there are only a couple ads and to make money on exposure you really need to have more ad space for more exposure.

it might almost be worth it to switch to cpc because obviously they're more expensive and there are fewer ads that are more targeted towards our general user. hell I'm looking at an ad for a vape and an ad for liberty snow flex. I click on some of these ads quite frequently and it's too bad they're missing out on that revenue.

Again, like many others I'm mostly speculating. Bishop knows for certain, and I'm sure would love to have a discussion about it if you shot him your thoughts (or he saw this thread)

I don't know what this ad block is but the only adds I see are below the menu and on the right side of my screen.

They don't bother me, and I have hardly ever noticed them.

Yea that was my bad... actually I went back here to correct myself. Wouldn't make sense if you could just spend all day clicking an ad, and then the company had to pay ns a butt load of money.

exposure could be abused similarly, depending on the technical and contractual details.

in fact, one could argue that ns has abused "their" sponsors and made a "shitton" of money with me. i sure have generated exposure over my ten years here.

whoop dee fucking doo, i had tons of marketing (before changing to a little less "talky" stuff), so dont come at me with this "attention" thingy.
