Statement from XSI Insurance regarding questions.

Hey all Newschoolers, my name is Robert Scott and I am the President of XSI. There seems to be some confusion about XSI and I want to address this directly for everyone. I personally created XSI because I, like all of our XSI employees, am an athlete and I got hurt boxing. Broke my right hand! No problem, right? I have major medical insurance. But even with really good coverage, it was still going to cost me several thousand dollars to repair my hand. It was only February and I was not even close to hitting my $5000 deductible. So, guess who was going to pay for my hand to be fixed? ME! 100% of the cost was mine! I started thinking, â??Man, you canâ??t do this every month!â?? There has got to be a way to do what I want to do, like ski, snowboard, skate, etc. without having to break the bank. So, XSI was born. I have it! I believe in it! Thank you to Newschoolers for giving me the space to explain it to all of their readers. You guys are awesome!

First, I want to make it VERY, VERY plain: XSI is NOT major medical insurance! Major medical is the stuff you get to cover ACL surgery and paralysis, cancer, etc. We have made every effort to explain this on our website and in all of our press releases and advertisements. If you have major medical, Great! But an accident, if covered, is still going to cost something out of pocket. And if you donâ??t have major medical, XSI will help.

Second, XSI was created for two reasons: to reduce athletesâ?? actual costs if they do have a major medical plan so they have the ability to participate in their sports without the fear of high deductibles, co-pays, or lost time from work. AND so that those athletes with pre-qualifying conditions, other health issues or just flat-out canâ??t afford a major medical plan CAN get some coverage.

Third, unlike many accident plans that do cost around $10, you do NOT need to have a major medical plan in order to get it! This is so important because XSI provides protection you can get quickly and easily even if you can'??t afford or qualify for other insurance. Changes in health care policies have made it nearly impossible for people that are not covered under their parents or employers plan to get insurance if they have a history of injuries or pre existing conditions.

Fourth, unlike other accident plans there are VERY few exclusions! You can be a skier, rider, skater, or basically any other sport and get the coverage and get your claims paid. Many companies will deny your claim if injured while participating in â??extremeâ?? sports. With our PRO package there are even fewer exclusions!

Fifth, when you sign up with XSI you are not ever on your own. We have highly experienced, licensed insurance agents explain everything to you! When you join XSI they thoroughly explain exclusions, the claims process, the costs, and benefits. Our clients know the ins and outs of their coverage. We want to make buying, using, and keeping our clients as protected as possible as easy and fast as possible.

An example of how XSI works when covered by the Level 1 policy. Say your break your leg. You would get $300 for the ER, $150 for X-Rays, $2400 for the break, $100 for crutches and a $30 for each additional doctor visit. Thatâ??s a minimum of $2,980 paid directly to you. You can use that money to pay your co pay/deductible or pay towards your bill.

Also with XSI there is not a maximum on use or raise in premiums if used. You can use XSI 10 times in one year and don't have to worry about being dropped or rates increased.

We want everyone who has any question to give us a call and ask for the details and fine print. We are constantly evolving and are working on introducing policies that will cover major injuries and surgeries.

Old or young, rich or struggling to get your season pass each year; XSI makes it possible to be protected 24 hours a day, seven days a week at a cost anyone can afford. Thatâ??s the bottom-line!
Feel free to post any questions you might have.

Not advertising, just trying to clear the confusion.
We are very similar to AFLAC but 1/2 the price and offer much better benefits. Our policies are written by Conseco Insurance, one of the largest insurance companies. There is nobody in the country offering this policy except for XSI.

regardless of what your supposed intentions might be with regards to 'clearing up the confusion' this still feels a lot like an advertisement which, in my view, should not be allowed in the forums.

i know nothing about the american health system so i don't have a view either way regarding the product in itself.

Being someone who doesn't have health insurance, can't afford a full insurance plan, and does have a sort of pre-existing injury, this is very interesting to me. Thanks for clearing up some questions.

For full disclosure, I helped start a not-for-profit association by the name of Adventure Advocates so I do have a personal interest in this post...

Adventure Advocates has been providing it's members with an accident medical insurance benefit since 2005. Through the years we have partnered with organizations such as Telluride Ski & Golf, Aspen Ski Co, Crested Butte Mountain Resort to name a few, as well as other associations like the National Ski Patrol, International Mountain Biking Association (IMBA), USA Cycling, etc. to fulfill our mission of promoting responsible outdoor recreation and environmental conservation. These partners inform their employees and members of the various benefits of membership in Adventure Advocates.

AA membership comes with not just insurance benefits, but many other benefits chosen to encourage outdoor recreation. Since 2005 our insurance carrier has paid over a million dollars in claims for ski and non-ski related accidental injuries. We have had thousands of skiers join and have been proud to provide an affordable option to cover SOME - NOT ALL of their accident related medical expenses. The plans that have been highlighted in this thread have a schedule of benefits which outline what they will pay for any given injury. Our member accident benefit works very differently. Our members have 3 levels of membership to choose from with various benefits. For instance, our Silver plan comes with a $5,000 accident medical benefit minus a low $250 deductible (certain exclusions/limitation apply). So, for most injuries, if you get injured and receive medical treatments which total $5,000, our insurance company would mail you a check for $4,750. You don't need to worry about what the payment is for a broken bone, how much you will get for the ambulance ride, etc...

To learn more, please visit www.AdventureAdvocates.com. I just wanted to clear the air that the recent forum outlining one accident benefit is by no means the "First" or most affordable/comprehensive plan to come along.

Have a festive new year and a great season! Be safe out there...

This is so far a civil and informative discussion, but I would like to point out that the above post (and the original post) would be considered advertisement by some. Mainly directed to the Adventure guy (I think XSI already has done this), if you want to advertise your organization on the forums, you need to talk to the admins first.

To me, It seems less like advertising and more like clearing up questions. there was a whole front page article on this... XSI has taken the time to work things out with NS on that front. This dude just seems to be filling us all in on some questions that a ton of people (some of which are NS members I'd assume) have.

Thanks for the additional information. Hopefully XSI progresses and works out to cover people who need it.

I'm about to graduate for school and looking for some short term insurance until I can find a plan I like. I was thinking about stacking this plan on top of a short term plan. Did some googleing but couldn't find much about this plan form the last year or two. Anybody use this plan recently who could give me some feedback?
