Starting a fishing resort

So long story short, I met a girl through working at a ski resort. She was from Argentina, fell in love followed her back to argentina. Fast forward 2 years we are still dating and it turns our her uncle is building a fishing resort and pretty much offered me and her top spots in marketing.

I dont fish, but a lot of my family does. Its alot like hunting people will pay out the ass to go to a fishing resort.

Best of luck to ya jackal

Never been to a fishing resort, but I'd assume high end shit. Like luxury style place to stay, very knowledgeable guides, and quality food.

People paying to go on fishing vacations are probably upper crust types for the most part. They will probably be used to the finer things in life.

Inb4 op was actually tricked in to this by Argentinean organ harvesters, has his kidney stolen and wakes up on a raft in the atlantic ocean.

good luck

exactly.

On fishing trips, customers are there to catch fish. Unless they actually PAY to be shown how to do that shit (as in dealing with the rod, fish cleaning, etc) they should only be there to catch the fish.

Put as little stress on the people fishing as possible. They are there to relax and feel like they worked really hard to catch a fish. And if they had a relaxing, awesome time then you'll get a great tip and recommendation from a high-paying customer.

You are a resort, not a pair of fishing guides working out of a rowboat

All the fishing trips I've been on the guides are always smiling and making jokes. You havta be a really sociable and outgoing person to do the job well in my opinion. Also be knowledgeable about the fish youre catching and similar topics because questions will almost always come up

good insight, our plan is to be 100% full service. From the moment you click pay you will not have to do ANYTHING or even bring your wallet. That includes us arranging for airfare to buenos ares, a private jet from buenos ares to our resort. Some of the best whine + food in the world. (look up mendoza, malbec and asado).

I would imagine there would be two different demographics there? a niche of people who want to have the full service experience and just want to go and spend a few days drunk in Argentina, and hard fishermen who want to actually experience fishing in a foreign land. Seems like that would be two completely different experiences and he should to focus all the business on one or the other. Ideally, the full service since they will drop more money. But if he's set up for a more rustic feel then go the other way.

I remember you or someone else posting about this same idea awhile ago. I was highly critical at the time of the business plan, but good luck. It seems like you just need to develop a loyal customer base and you will be set.

It isnt as much as one might think. However our investor is willing to do whatever it is to make our experience better than that of our competitors. He loves to fish, already has a good income. Now he just wants to create something to share this part of argentina with other people and cultures.

It all started with a simple idea. Its been growing alot. I dont take any offence to anyone being critical it is a farfetched idea thats going to take alot of work and effort.

my dad's company insures the helicopters and planes at this wilderness resort in BC. its mainly visited for the heli fishing and heli adventures. my dad has been there a few times and i have only heard positive things. they also have a very loyal customer base. i'll attach the link to their website and you can check it out. they are clearly doing something right.

this

big ups for getting such a prime opportunity and best of luck!

also, post picks of cool argentinian fish

I've done a few fishing camps/resorts if you will, mainly in Alaska, but basically the best things about them were the people, the facilities, and the gear. You can bring your own rods obviously but the resorts were mainly for Halibut and a few species of salmon so not everyone had rods so they had a wide selection you could use throughout the week of very nice rods. Also they could hook you up with nice waiders boots whatever you needed they had is the point. I think that is important at any sort of resort.

Also the tents were very upscale definitely made a nice homey vibe. The showers and facilities were always kept incredibly clean which I remember being very nice. Idk how the insects are down there, but in AK the mosquitos are shitty as fuck so they provided different types of incense and netting to keep them away.

They hired really great food staff and had a great dining facility the kitchen was super nice and the women working there will hook it up with just about whatever you may want. SO that was always convenient. Basically the people working there really loved it, all of the guides were really awesome guys and I remember them being younger like mid twenties, they really just love to fish and be on the river so I'd say that's a large part of the experience too.

Also spend good money on boats *if needed. Obviously nothing too crazy but something comfortable and that keeps you safe and shit.

hope this helps

I would avoid dealing with transport to Buenos Ares' main airport. My Dad is nuts about fishing, dropping serious coin on full service trips annually and none provide airfare to the main pick up airport. It will be a logistical nightmare to deal with every departure city in the world.

The biggest issue usually isn't the outfitter, it's other guests. If you have a nice accommodations, good food, and friendly staff the rest is up to the fish.

and to spice up the thread, here's a clip I shot on a fishing trip a couple summers ago in AK

Neat idea, but why Argentina? There are plenty of places with great fishing much closer and established than Argentina. This will be the difficult thing to sell to your customers.

Aside from the skull bashery the only other way I've seen is to use a gun while they're still in the water, but I don't think that specific boat had one onboard that day.

Sounds awesome man, if I remember right Uou made a thread a while back on this too. Sounds like you have the life man, south American woman great opportunities, Congrats

people like to go to far away. especially if it has an all inclusive resort. seems like an easy sale to any avid fisherman

yep.

You just club the shit out of the halibut to break its skull and kill it immediately. Thats how most big fish are killed because they weigh as much as a kid and flopping around the deck knocks shit everywhere and can actually hurt you pretty bad.

Easiest way is as soon as its in the boat and you know its legal length, give it a nice knock to the dome. Safer, quicker and more humane.

If it's too big to deal with on the boat then it sometimes gets shot. Pretty rednecky, but effective. It sure won't be a trophy though after you hit it with a .45

Didn't look at the link cuz I'm on mobile but is it deep-sea/saltwater fishing or freshwater?

i've done a good amount of traveling, especially in south/central america. i was just in AR last month. something i believe that you should pay attention to is the guides and staff that you hire. good english is HUGE in making tourists feel comfortable. also, look for personality. i've done all sorts of tours, from houseboats in the amazon, to the time we got in a jeep wrangler with a blind man (who knew the location of mayan ruins in the belizian rainforest) and his driver. a personable, approachable tour guide REALLY makes a different.

The more confidence you have that you can guarantee a fish the better you will do. in the end its all anyone is looking to do. Find the fish, find the money

liked it on fb, looks pretty cool man, glad to hear your getting it going. i love fishing and do it a lot, but a good deal of customers your going to get will be completely new, and will need guides to do pretty much everything for them. definitely get really experienced guides, and get a ton of good gear too. also, having food and good accommodations is always a plus. good luck with the resort man, maybe ill go there someday

sorry for the double post, but just realized everything i said has been covered already, sorry about that haha. good luck again

I'm pretty sure that he means if you know the fish is too big to handle on the boat then shoot it while it's in the water. I don't think you'd want to try to shoot ANY gun in the general direction of the boat that you're standing on.

have good quality rods and reels. id recomend lamiglas or g loomis. they both have life time warenties no questions asked and there great rods. i love em. also what type of fishing are you planning on doing? like river, ocean, lake or what?

Clean and nice washrooms/showers

Good out in boat or on shore lunches

Dinners and breakfast cooked by a chef

Nice places to stay

Variety of beverages adult and not adult

Depending on if its a rustic wild style camp or more modern wifi and tv

Nice snd comfortable fishing boats

why exclusive to us citizens? i'm sorry but that seems incredibly douchey... and eliminates a lot of customers

I mean when I went salmon fishing the guide just threw them in a giant cooler with only a lil water in it im pretty sure. I guess those are way to big to fit inside a cooler tho haha

Agreed. Nothing worse then foreign investors with money purchasing areas of land in foreign countries, taking away access, resources, and culture for local people.

Professional guides, clean boats, tackle and bait shop with nice gear. Have staff clean, and prep fish... also you could have an option where chefs prepare what you catch, or have classes on cooking fish ( I can catch smallmouth like a mother fucker, but my girlfriend always cooks..... I just fuck it up).

Also remote fishing sites, or lakes. That's the best kind of fishing.
