Starting a fishing resort

If it's offshore, then INVEST IN NICE BOATS. Use Four strokes not two strokes if you're going outboard.

Always make sure the boat is clean, tidy and everything is in place.

Buy new boats, or at least very lightly used used boats.

yea, that halibut was 250lbs. But salmon get the club too. Then they bleed the fish out and put it on ice.

We need to focus on one demographic. Obviously the people from Argentina and the people from the U.S. will want different things. We are going to start out catering to the citizen of the United States so we can make the experience specific to what they will want. We live here (in maine) so we are going to start with where we are. We dont mind having others at our resort, by no means will we reject anyone. If someone asks to go from another place we will do our best to accomodate for them. However as for now we arent trying to reach any further than the United States.

For those curious the resort has been under construction for some time now. It is almost complete and is shaping up to be a beautiful get away. It should be complete within the next few months. We are making a trip down there soon to advise the completion process.

Thank you alot for sharing all of your experience's with us!

Message me, tell me the reasons why you think you would be good working for us. If you honestly are a die hard fisher and want to spend the entirety of your time at a fishing resort. We could possibly make arrangements.

Here is a video of the place. I made it from some pictures and videos we already had. Just to get an idea of what type of fishing it is!

Hey, Thanks for your help in our thread about starting the resort. Its really nice to see well put together response's about how we can make our resort successful!

If you have the time and dont mind would you care to outline the common resort experience youve had with other resorts? Like tell us what you did from step 1 until your departure? Or say what the positives or drawbacks were. Anything you can tell us helps. Thanks!

This is great. Managing a foreign resort from the U.S. with no local knowledge of the complexities of human-ecological relationships in Argentina.

okay i see what you mean. just the way you phrased it made it seem different. i was just curious as a canadian who loves fishing as to why you would ever disallow someone like myself to come haha

ya i live there 6 months a year and, my fiancee is from there. But what the fuck do i know about Argentina? Plus i will be micro-managing. Im not the manager i am in charge of marketing, advertisements, and travel advisory.

ya sorry for the confusion, i suppose exclusive was a bad word choice. I just meant we are creating it for the U.S. customer. Reguardless the fish and place is great and it will be fun for everyone.

it truly makes me mad. Places like this should be enjoyed by all, not only by retired american men who go because they can, not because they want to or truly appreciate the outdoors. I would never go near a place like this.

this! I work for a fishing outfit resort in northern montana we charge about 450$ for a day trip per person. real good money to be made in the most beautiful surroundings!

Did you read OP's respsonse? It sounded like "exclusive" was poorly used earlier and U.S. citizens are just the target market, while natives are still welcome.

the reason we are making it the way we are is so we can share our experience with others. This place is virtually unfished by people who are not natives (yes i know people fish patagonia, but this is a different place). The reason our founder made this resort is to share our secret fishing spot with the world. He otherwise is well off as far as financial matters are concerned. Its not to exclude people, but to expand the people who can fish here. Many people from the surrounding areas have the oppurtunity to fish there but to come internationally you need alot of resources. We are trying to provide those resources for the people who couldnt go otherwise.

more info on type of fishing and location would be nice. is it fly in? Or road accessible and close enough driving distance? A good airstrip is pretty important if you want to be attracting customers with private planes. And a good plane and pilot for fly out lakes for even more exclusivity

.The principle fish are:

Surubi

Dorado

Pacu

The Golden Dorado is particularly awesome to catch, they have alot of fight, and arent a very common fish to find or fish in other palces. They taste very delicious as well. That will probably be the target fish. There is a very near airstrip we are going to fly the people into.

IT really depends what kind of fishing resort you're going for.. there are two main camps/resorts that i, and im sure other people, mostly go for.. you'll have the big resort where people will have everything included, and theyll go out fishing with a guide and have all the proper equipment and catch lots of fish, then give them to someone once they get back to shore, and that person will clean them for them and then cook them and they get served to you for dinner. Sleep in beautiful 5 star cabins and do the same every day.

Other people prefer the "getting away from the city" type of fishing camp. this is what i usually go for because i love being out in the wild and doing my own thing.. Small log cabin with just what you need, you have someone who comes by everyday to change the propane tank or pick up your garbage, if u need tips and tricks for fishing or want a guide, they can help. But over all, youre left alone.

The camp i used to go to with my dad, we took a little 5 passenger plane way into the middle of no where, landed on a lake and from there a small boat was waiting for us, grabbed it and made our way to a small cabin on a lake. no neighbours, no one at all for miles.

There are certain things that are always nice to have, like a small cabin to clean the fish so youre not doing it outside with all the bugs, or youre not doing it where youre sleeping. It's nice to be on a clean beach where u can swim without having to worry about leeches or wtv else.. Showers are always a nice bonus, (i would of liked one, especially after 5 days of fishing and gutting fish). Guides are for sure a bonus. i remember the very first camp i went to, there were i think 20 ish different lakes we could fish at, and after two days, we only caught small fish and nothing too impressive. so we ended up asking the owner if he would come out and show us some tricks, he acted as our guide and it was the best fishing day ever, he knew the spots and the tricks. the days that followed, we didnt need him any more and we still caught a bunch of fish. At every fishing camp ive gone to, its the little details that i loved. Ice for your cooler, u had to go to the barn and dig in wood chips to find big blocks of ice barried (wood chips keep them cold) or at one camp, right in the middle of the resort, there was a cabin which was all screened in, and everyone would go there to clean out their fish, so you would talk to the other people staying there and talk about your fishing day and see the fish they caught, etc...

Good luck with it all, if u want to ask me questions or wtv just PM me, i have lots to say since ive done many fishing camps/resorts!!

Thanks man! thanks to everyone giving constructive and positive replys. If anyone is honestly looking to go to a fishing resort in the next year or so, talk to me. If you want to experience the culture of Argentina and good fishing we could possibly arrange for a very good promotional price. We are going to need something like a soft opening where we see how the fishers like everything.

i'm not a marketing guy but sunburt fat guys w/ no shirts did nothing for your video. I'd Replace that eyesore of fugly w/ cute girls and pisco sours, or decent viddy of a compitant fly caster casting and hooking up.

the $$$$/clientel and growth is in flyfishing imho. They outfit themselves with high $$ rods and reels, polerized sunglasses and pricey simms/exofishio/orvis/pantaguchi outerwear

they tend to be a bit snobish and overweight sunburt bait and gearchucker in bj cutoffs aint gonna target that demographic very well.

Not sure if you were the same op that started a similiar thread but I'dsee about trying to hook up w/ yellowdog, world cast or other ffing destination travel based companies.

at the very least I'd try and get a group of decent looking and skilled fisherpeeps and better quailty video/pics for marketing

i know them peeps and i'd bet they'd do it for a special promotional fee ;)

been afforded the op to fish/guide in a lot of cool places /lodges from silvers on the italio in ak to largemouths in el salto in mexico and a host of westen rivers.

my ski addiction keeps me from having time to typeout my experiences but there are tr's over in the fishin forum on the tgrz or pm me if you want more advise/thoughts from a fishbum.

Yea, you can do that the first day, but you're probably gonna be catching the same kind of fish all week, it would get monotonus to have the same dinner. Plus a big part of it is bringing your fish home, so you wouldn't want to eat it all (not that you could, hopefully).

its argentina, they have the best meat in the world. The fishers will eat VERY well every night. Whether it be fish, asado, or empanadas.

We didnt plan on using any of those pictures or video for an edit at all. However to argue with you the guy in that video was someone having fun fishing. We want people to have fun fishing at our resort, that would be why I included him there. Maybe if you were focused less on the size of the guy and more about the hefty dorado he was reeling in you would see the value.

Make sure your house chef is good at cooking up the fish that the guests catch. Also, be like Los suenos, the Costa Rican dream fishing resort

You're forgetting the part where wealthy Americans spend fuckloads of money in the region which helps to further devolop it.

There is something worse. Your ignorance. Let me explain why... Our resort is invested and operated by residence of Cordoba Argentina. Not foreign investors. The reason they are doing this is to share there culture and resources. And your assumption of our resort being in Patagonia is way off too. Corrientes is easily 3000 miles away from Patagonia. It's like saying a fishing resort is in Maine when its in Oregon.

best start kissing your rich ass customers ass if you want to make it a successful endeavor . comming from a montana native , born and raised , ive been fishing my whole life ( all aspects.. fly fishing, spinners, ice fishing, backpacking deep into woods to unmapped lakes etc ) and i can tell you one thing. you are going to be dealing with some very rich people who literally are used to getting there ass wiped for them, ive been at a few posh fishing resorts in my life on trips , ( deep sea, alaska , etc ) , and for the majority you will be dealing with very bitchy people who want and will only accept the best. the best fishing, the best food, lodging etc. my advice, if you guna do it up, do it up big and make it what its supposed to be. a place for the rich to come and throw in a line have someone bait it, and them have someone take their fish off the hook and fillet it for them, ( probably to be thrown away when back at hotel haha ) and then come back to a 5 star meal ... but ya my advice, make it nice and posh, cause thats who you will be catering to 90 % of the time. pretty much guaranteed. oh and get paid mo fucker !! ha good luck buddy. i know i wouldn't last dealing with people like that , but you could and can make some serious coin, so good luck.
