So for my sr. project i am hosting my own skiing comp at a grass park w/ rails and boxes and everything.

the only thing standing in my way is the fact that it is considered too dangerous. but they allow basketball?
so i need your help to prove that basketball is more dangerous then skiing.

give me all you got. thanks.

Maybe instead of proving that basketball is also dangerous. You could prove that skiing is not as dangerous as they think it is. It is not a valid argument to justify a negative with a negative. (even though X is bad it should be allowed because Y is bad too and it is allowed.)

In a recent issue of powder they talked about the number of injuries and causalities in skiing in relation to auto racing. I'll bet you could find some good information there.

P.S. Anyone who is for the legalization of pot should pay attention to that whole negative-negative thing.

make waiver forms and have helmets required for your comp. its gunna be tough though dave the senior project people are big bitches about that kind of stuff. they let people make snowboard and ski videos for projects. ask them how that is less dangerous than a little rail jam on a nice soft grassy knoll.

perhaps say how dangerous chearleading is...im pretty sure that it has the most injuries out of any high school sport

shit dave, just completely disregard what i said. you WILL get assassinated if you put on this project. shit, that kinda sucks man.

tell em that people die playin b ball, and that they don't ski so they can't judge it then bring race in cause that always works, or you could say its part of your religion lol

dang thatsa good idea for a senior project. they let me do skiing for a senior project this year i dont know why they wont let you. thats real shitty, but im sure you could have everyone sign waivers or something

This isn't a history lesson you guys besides ya'll need to get learned by Slandis.

Have people sign waivers, wear helmets, knee pads, mouth guards, shin guards, back protectors, football pads... the whole 9 yards. Then tell them about all the basketball players that have had orthapedic surgery for like a torn ACL and that shit. And talk about how skiing is safer than golf if you know what you are doing.

weeeeeeeeeeelllllllllllllllllllllllll, there's the whole thing about the sniper rifle guy on the grassy knoll....he's a good shot at getting presidents and some say he doesn't like skiiers :P

i dont know. i hope i can pull this off.
but to every one close to Seattle your more then welcome to enter. the entry fee is going to be 2 bucks.

... you might want to think twice about that, remember that you aren't allowed to have a comp on a resort without ski patrol, you should at least look into having st. johns ambulance there. And you'll have a tough time getting this approved unless you get insurance for the event, because that's probably the main thing the school is concerned about? What if someone gets fucked up and breaks their neck? With no medical team and no insurance, there's a good chance someone from the crowd will try to help and end up hurting the person, and with no insurance your school is going to get fucked in the courts, especially in the states

yeah now i am deeply considering doing this at stevens pass.

i would have the support of stevens and the park crew (shout out to trevor)

and i would prob have access to the stevens rails and boxes.

and because its going to be filmed by my friend jordan for his sr. project,
stevens will most likely be stoked on it.

Yeah FF was shot as his car was making its way to a hospital for his wife? I forget who but yeah. I thought it started from a grassy knoll. Who knows

I am currently writing a letter to my school's insurance company to convince them that skiing is not as dangerous as it appears. I will also address that i will require helmets, a signed waiver of the person (under 18 must have parent sign).

Also if your interested in competing in this event, it's only going to be 2 dollars, maybe a lil more ($5 at most). But its going to be @ Steven's Pass hopefully so hope to see some locals there, maybe some new people. Kohl and Derek you guys better be there.

I would find a new senior project. the insurance is not going to budge on this, people are much more likely to get hurt skiing then playing basketball.

shutup billy.

in previous years they let kids make ski and snowboard movies. this isnt much different except that its a competition instead of just filming kids riding.

he was indeed, while his motorcade was traveling down the street during a parade. gavrilo princep was in the crowd and the only person out of a 10 person terrorist group who had enough balls to pull the trigger

there is a very big difference between throwing a competition and making a ski movie. The school would be viewed as endorsing the competition which would encourage participants to push themselves furthering the chance to get hurt,

And finding another senior project is very much an option, I changed my project multiple times last year. I still graduated from high school. For one there are tones of interesting and exciting things out there then skiing, part of the idea of a senior project is to help you explore other ideas out there. Plus it would not come with mother nature deciding if you graduate high school this year or not. But if you are 100% convinced you need to do something related to skiing, my suggestion is ease up on it. Don't do something that is going to need others, you need to be able to make this happen even if no one else goes along with it. A competition is a very difficult thing to put on. For one you need to get competitors. And to Get competitors your going to need prizes, to get prizes your either going to need sponsors or a lot of cash. Plus you would need to get permits for the site you want to hold it at, giving you another insurance loop to jump through. So with that in mind that gives you three places where you need outside cooperation, and if one does not cooperate you get to find out the benefits of the 13th year of public education. All though I would not bother yourself too much with those problems since the odds of your schools insurance giving you the green light on this is probably around 1 out of 1000. So I would defiantly broaden your horizon a little bit when looking for a senior project. unless you want a another year of publicly funded education. Which overall is not a bad option considering all the running start and AP options for College credit.

dave do it! shorecrest is like 3 blocks from my house! then have a rail jam in the parking lot LOLZ
