gahh spriggs is sick...dorey is rediculous as well....for brothers max/tosh for jumps and girey/ahmet for urban and park rails...the east coasters have pussy jumps but there is no way the peter's could hold a thing to the dadalis on rails

Spriggs is 16, he will learn to grab on the 9's and 10's in the pipe once he grows into his lanky body. He will be a huge force in the time to come. And yes, rookie of the year no doubt. He podiumed (3rd) at WSI Slopestyle and WSC Superpipe, and he finished 5th at the US Open Superpipe among other victories at the Core Comps.

There are a lot better 14 year olds out there. Tosh just soaks up Ninthwards glory, he got on the right team at the right time and now he is "hot shit". Spriggs should get it and if not him Spong should.

^ if you said that about kye peterson, that would be true, but not about tosh peters, that kid is sick for 14... there might be a few at the same level but he def deserves what he got...

Personally I think Spong is better, I think more people would agree if they were witness to the air attack that he brought to Vail this year. He was better that almost all other competitors attending. He tried a switch 12 in slopestyle. What pro of any age tries that? Tosh gets a lot of attention here because Ninthward gets him a lot of exposure (which sometimes he mis-uses). So people talk him up just like any other pro. Spong on the other hand, has no sponsors that get him exposure that I know of, he uses snowboarding outerware for god's sake. So people praise him for a week or two and then forget him. So talk up Tosh all you want you are just further proving my point.

im not all that impressed by spong....and u didnt see many cab 12s at the open because thats no waht judges are looking for now, laurent was just doing cab 7s, pretty stock trick these days. almost every pro could throw cab 12, but choose not to.........tosh is good, watch him ski

just wait till everyone sees dorey's part in safety meeting. the other day i saw him do a switch cork 5 off of a really big drop in the BC.....just wait for his part in safety meeting. he also won WSI superpipe, by the way. my vote goes to dorey.

yea props to spong for how he did in the Open, but besides those few tricks where else have you seen him. Russel has been killing it everywhere he goes.

 
This thread is about "the rookie of the year". Not guys that did well. Sammy Carlson and John Spriggs did more this year than any of the other kids mentioned. Yes, some of the other guys won a comp here or there. Sammy and Spriggs finished top 10 in almost every major event. As a competition skier, Spriggs killed it from pipe and slopestlye with podiums at World Superpipe Championships, WSI, Core Comps and top 5 at US Open. Sammy is going to have a breakthrough filming segment in addition to his great competition season. Both were relatively unknown until this year. the other kids you are mentioning are really good but no way can they be considered "rookie of the year". Spong is a bit behind the Carlson and Spriggs but had a great season.

derek was invited to gravity games, invited to Jon Olsson invantation by jon, invited to WSI, did some of the freeskiier core tour comps, did alot of photo shoots with freeskiier and will have a full page ad with adidas comin up soon. i dunno u may have missed him hes kinda short

 
what pro of that age does that? well alexis godbout was trying switch 1440s in the US open slope, and he's 14 too. that more than answers your question. also, he had an unreal season as far as the medium sized events go...i dont think he finished lower than 1st...won the cote obscur, won a bunch of ste sauveur events, and won all three jr events at the vermont open. siiiick year for alexis.

i watched spong get beaten at JO halfpipe this year. my pick: david wise. that kid is nuts
