Spoken Word (black rapper guy) on Education and School

Well it can be true that highschool teaches nothing that you will use in your career. I want to be an animator so i luckily have one class at my school that teaches me that. But school prepares you for your future.

It's pretty easy to point out all the problems in our society... coming up with a viable solution is much more difficult.

School isn't perfect, but it does do a pretty good job at laying out a groundwork for higher education.

Phew... I made the cut this time.

And happygapper, tell me about all the doors you have open for you as a Senior in HS who just got into a good college.... Alot can change in 4 years.

See I was the exact opposite of you. Did all my homework every night, stayed after school or came in early to get help on a math problem I didn't understand, and got straight B's and A's.

However, when test time came around I couldn't do well if my life depended on it. Same thing on the SAT.

I'm not sure what that say about me but thought it's sort of interesting.

Somebody must've poked a hole in Tumblr because its overly sentimental pseudo-philosophy is leaking into Youtube in the form of shitty rap videos that irresponsible kids use to circlejerk.

Working hard means fuck all. What matters is what you're capable of getting done. The idea that working hard is inherently a measure of value comes from the outdated assumption that hard work is directly proportional to output.

It's unfair, but the person who is able to get X amount of work done with minimal effort is more efficient and therefore a more valuable member of society (in terms of output) than the person who gets X amount of work done by busting their ass.

if you feel like a scumbag do something about it. And why would you feel like a scumbag for doing it your way?

I graduated HS by doing what needed to get done, got to college and had to work really hard at a few classes but I didn't try very hard by any means. And I can honestly say I don't feel bad at all that I have a stable job (that im quitting soon) and a college degree. I did it my way and graduated in 4 years and I'm damn proud of that. Standardized tests sucked for me but classes were easy. Dont feel bad because you have things, you'll either end up feeling bad for your entire life or you'll make yourself have nothing to feel like a regular person.

Yes, but on a per-unit basis the more efficient worker is a more valuable member of society. It's kind of messed up and I don't like it, but it's a simple reality: some people are superior to others.

As for standardized testing, lets ignore for a second that in the long run they don't mean shit, and that people overstate its importance or are generally paranoid about its impact on their lives. Even though they are biased and unfairly judge the capacity of many people, this in itself serves as a legitimate hurdle, however unintended. Not a good test taker? Sit down and become one instead of crying about how the system is unfair. Life isn't fair, and bitching about it or having that defeatist attitude does nothing but reaffirm society's wrongful handicap it places upon you.

These videos are the product of a "me" generation offsetting their responsibilities as a "solution" to what is a valid societal flaw.

tl;dr: Though the system is broken, if you fail it's because you suck, not because of the system.

See and I would always envy people like yourself.

I would always take hard classes and get good grades and people would go "Wow your really smart!" and I would feel like a fraud, since I had friends that were way brighter then be but for some reason never really wanted to try and barely showed up for school.

It goes both ways I think. I know plenty of people with amazing work ethic but couldn't give a damn about academics. Same goes for smarts. Plenty of smart people but don't have the desire to bust ass for something. If you balance it out perfectly between smarts and work ethic, the sky's the limit. I certainly do take pride in working hard though. Nothing wrong with either choice. We need smart people to come up with great ideas and we need the hard workers to make it happen.

I haven't heard from KEVTRON yet today. You better watch yourself OP cause he's my favorite jewish kid. You better hope this thread didn't harm him.

Very well it could be accurate of which high school educates

absolutely nothing that you will use in your job. I would like to become a

animator well and now I am working at http://www.papersville.co.uk/thesis/

, the good news is have got one particular class inside my college of which

educates everyone of which.
