Spinning Problem

So I am having a problem doing a 3.Almost every time I go for it I land, but it is usually with my right foot first and my left leg up in the air like I am a dog taking a piss or backseat. I learned from reading the other spinning threads that I should not wind up and throw my arms, but how do I get spinning without doing this.

you may be coming down off axis, or 'peeing like a dog' because you are setting your spin differently when taking off. You are doing this probably because you are using your arms to set the spin. When you use your arms to set the spin this doesn't give you a whole lot of control, and its harder to stlye tricks out.

The fix... spin with your hips. If you spin with your hips then your entire body is going to spin at the same speed, where as if you spin with your arms your upper body is going to be spinning ahead of your core, and lower body.

make sure you have left the lip completly before throwing it. exaggerate the time before you start spinning... that should help.

ok so a good way to practice this on dry land...

If you take your arms and cross them by putting your hands on the opposite shoulders and then try to spin, as if you were going off a jump....

try it...

ok now when you have tried it hopefully you bend your knees and almost 'spring' then you spin. By using your hips your going to have more pop in your jump, and you are going to be able to control your spins and learn new ones MUCH easier. Its much easier to set fakie spins this way, along with corks, and dspins.

Since the time I made this thread, I have gotten better at 360's and can land some good now. My problem now Is I am penciled and it looks like shit. I am not to good at grabs, so I cant get a grab with my spin. How can I spin with some style?

Ok, since the end of last year, I have only gotten one chance to hit jumps. I am having big time problems again. I get the spin, but I am throwing my arms around a lot in the air, and it is always penciled. Also, I always land backseat or on my tails and then get messed up. Here is a video, I am the one in the white jacket and before anyone says anything, I know i suck, I am trying to get better.

When I go off the jump, I start of with my legs bent, then I just jump straight up like I am going for a rebound or something. To do the spin, I just look over my shoulder or something. Am I supposed to look down the whole time? cause I do. I don't know what else to say, I just hope someone can give me tips or let me know what I am doing wrong.

OK, im not gonna start a fight like on that last thread.

try going on the tramp and doin like, 7's and 9's without throwing your arms and landing perfect. that would probably make 3s real easy for you.

that wasnt horrible, you just have alot to learn. Keep trying but really bend your knees and turn with your shoulders as well.

yea dude when you spin your hands move your head with them your body always follows where your head goes and keep practicing them, good luck

spinning is not just arms, however it is partially arms. you should go off the jump in a solid centered stance and pop off the lip while your popping you should be in the process of setting the spin with your arms and shoulders which carry into your upper body. your head should also turn with the spin and you should try and spot your landing and then stomp it.

get compact almost like a double saftey get in a ball and when you confindent and you landed almost all of them or did try

a mute or tail... good luck

i had the same problem when i started to do 3's..when you feel more comfortable with them you'll just end up getting better with the landing..winding up is really unecessary for a 3 cause your gunna throw your inside shoulder down (depending on the way your spinning) and your gunna stay that way (of axis) so dont throw your arms, and try to get a safety grab in there

same problem for a whiel, i got too used to puttin a hand up for style when i grabbed that when i didnt i would put it up and it would tottaly thorw my balance off, try to spin a clean verticle spin,..

As for brigning in your legs... try jumping on flat ground. Practice bring in your legs. Once you feel comfortable doing that, transfer the same movement over to a jump.

um.. unless u are a girl... dont spin with your hips... it wont work...for a guy their center of gravity is in their shoulders, dont wind up and throw yours arms either... your shoulders throw and set the spin. your hips will follow. compress your legs coming up the lip, pop, look over your shoulder and dont stop looking till u are ready to spot your landing... (look longer for 5's 7's etc...) it is all in your head and your shoulders.... to get the grab try taking off in a more croutched taking a shit position... but NOT sitting by any means, just knees bent more so that you dont have as far to go to get the grab... when your in the air bring your feet up to your hands to grab... do not reach out to grab, it will keep u more stable in the air as well then if ur all penciled out. (unless u are trying to do a sick grablike a truck in which reaching would obviously be necessary) keep your shoulders in mind... they really determine what your body is going to do in the air...

Ok thanks for the help, I hope this weekend me and my friends will be able to go both days and I will practice. Just one more thing. When I go off the jump how wide should my stance be? Also, should I go for a safety grab while learning to do it and see if it helps? or should I just go no grab until I can stomp it clean?

When you say look over my shoulder, you mean turn my head around past my shoulder but keep looking straight until I almost complete the rotation, then look down to see the landing?

^ go a little wider than shoulder width. I wouldn't recommend going too wide unless you're setting up for a major spin. Safety would be the easiest grab to start off with of course. Double safeties could also help you with the penciled out spin problem. You could also practice crossing your skis without grabbing before moving on to mutes and tail grabs.

keep your legs wide of the jump about shoulder lenght or a little more and keep your legs bent in the air and look over your shoulder to help you spin faster what ever way you pin

this thread helped me a lot too, i had the same problem with landing sideways sometimes falling. next time i go im gunna try it without the arms
