Before you decide that I'm super duper ignorant, and know nothing about you're religion. Went to church every sunday till I was like 15. I know all the stories, and yes they are stories. My family is uber religious and frequently watches fox news, so I understand where you're coming from.

Why can't people take the initiative to find their own purpose in life. I think it's funny when people say God led me to move here, or to do this or that. What about the people who were told to kill people by God. Is there really a difference? Just because most peoples fairy tale relationship leads them in a less harmful direction doesn't mean it makes any more sense.

 
That happens through social changes anyway. But you're missing the point. The whole pr thing is way out of hand these days. People are trying so hard not to offend people. People that try so hard not to be racist that they actually show their racism. Boxes of cerial, folders in a store, clothing catalogs. If there are 4 pictures, one is a white person, one is asian, one is black, one is hispanic. Stuff like that.

I'm not racist against any of those groups but it's just a little sad that you can actually see the effort they put in to try to avoid racism. You can't call people black apparently? Even though some black people aren't africans.

Wow religious people in this thread are crazy. Why are you guys so offended? Isn't the whole point of religion to have faith in something with no physical evidence?

South Park is a tv show, don't watch it if you are going to get all pissed off, go to church any pray, I heard that gets a lot accomplished.
 
The only problem with that is, true Islam is not a violent religion whatsoever. The Radical Islamists that conducted 9/11 distort the text to justify their violence in someway, shape, or form thus making it not true Islam just a perversion of it. Radical Islamists only make up a small part of the Muslim community and their actions cannot be interpreted as the will of all the Muslim people. So the true religion of Islam is not at fault, but the people who distort the texts to try and justify their actions are. You cannot tag that attack to the entire Islamic faith.

it's an organization that was founded to promote a better understanding between christians, muslims, and jews. i personally think it's a great idea but people have to be willing to come together.

And i'd prefer to live in a world with no religion at all. Without religion we wouldn't even be having this argument.

Is there a negative side to having a world with no religion?
 
You cant say that, that picture was not subtly singling out Islam. Its not like I'm Muslim or anything, I don't care much for religions either. I was just pointing out a fact that true Islam is non-violent, and that most people mark the faith as a crazy extremist group

Some of my worst experiences relate to athiests and/or non-christians.

I am not in the habit of randomly making offensive, random, off topic posts about their belief choices.

We're not all perfect. Anybody who tries to tell you that we are knows nothing about the Bible.
 
We are all ignorant on some issue. It is your choice to show it or not show it. It is a pretty ignorant statement to come into a thread that has nothing to do with ignorance and post an offensive picture which brands well over half the known world with the label of suicidal religious fanatics.

I am actually pretty proud of NS, I can remember being one of the only Athiests on here a while ago. Or at least I am glad that more people are standing up against the crazy and opressive ideas of religion and using their minds.

Science:

I hold nothing in science as concrete, it is fluid and changing, therefore I take no offence to you questioning any aspect of it. You do not have this freedom. The burden of proof is on you, not me.

You don't respect science because you choose to believe a book written 1500 years ago. There is no room for you to respect science because then you would be forsaking your religion. Science and orginized religion are in direct contradiction.

Therefore there is no room for respect.

I am neither "uber religious" nor do I watch fox news. So no, you have no idea where I am coming from.

You assume that I look to God for all direction in my life. How does it take any less effort to be intentional about asking God to lead me and guide me in life than it does for you to do whatever the heck you want?

You make conclusive statements about my beliefs. Where have I once said that Atheists or Non-Christians in this thread are wrong? Nobody knows. Show me a person who was there when the Big Bang happened or God spoke the Universe into existence.

It takes just as much "faith" to believe in the secular origin of the universe as it does to believe in the Christian view of it. *Cue the science kids to come in and explain how I am retarded and how science can "prove" the origins of the universe.*
 
You are confusing sciene and religion again. I don't have to "believe" anything. I hold the big bang theory as one of most likely explanations, by no means do I consider it fact. Science can have uncertiany.

Real science = theories that can be proven here and now.

F = ma. If I hit a ball with a given force, and it has a given mass, it WILL accelerate at the rate of Force/Mass.

There is NOBODY, as of yet, who can create matter, cause it to form organized systems, or create life from an assorted soup of Amino acids.
 
So why to you choose to be "certain" that religion does not have the answer? You "believe" that religion is wrong. Whether or not science compels that, it clearly exists in your personal paradigm.

Real science = reasonal assumptions based on factual information.

If science was only what was proven then you could throw the Pythagorean theorem out the window, and most of science for that matter. The burden of proof in science is set very high, very few things are "Proved" You should know this.

There has been countless scientific uncertianties that people instantly explain with religion. Only to be proven completely wrong, but because religion is concrete you have to keep believing what is wrong.

Also I am not sure how I ever insulted you, If you are insulted by your beliefs called into question then maybe you should adopt beliefs with out so many loopholes.

Also, not that you care, but I turned 24 on the 19th. And like you, I wouldn't be here if I didn't use a computer all day. (You will have a lot of these days to look forward to as an engineer.)
