SouthPark in HOT water over episode 200

Oh dear. No sooner had I congratulated the South Park team on their fantastic 200th episode and wished them long life than along comes the news that they have been wished anything but that by certain others.

The website Revolutionmuslim.com has put up a video on their site as well as on Youtube juxtaposing images of the two men who are behind South Park alongside pictures of Ayaan Hirsi Ali (who still lives with permanent security protection) and the dead body of her own film-making partner Theo van Gogh. Van Gogh was murdered in an Amsterdam street by an Islamist in 2004 for the “crime” of making a film about the abuse of women within some Islamic communities.

To a backing-track of iihadi preachers, the Revolutionmuslim post reads that: “We have to warn Matt [Stone] and Trey [Parker] that what they are doing is stupid and they will probably wind up like Theo Van Gogh for airing this show. This is not a threat, but a warning of the reality of what will likely happen to them.”

All of which of course just confirms the point that the South Park boys were making. The anniversary show figured the inventors of all the major world religions. They showed Buddha snorting drugs. They did not even show Mohammed, as their broadcast network wouldn’t allow them to. Noticeably, no death threats have emanated from Buddhists for showing their founder as a drug-addict. But for not even showing Mohammed, and for pointedly demonstrating that they could not, an extremist Muslim group has threatened them.

I’d have said that was point proved. South Park 1: Islamists 0.

now i just hope that that trey and matt make an episode with jesus beating the shit out of muhammed, seriously

that may sound fucking nazi, but it is not

because it's serioulsy fucking true

everytime i see a pic of the towers i get that empty angry sorrowfeeling in my heart. i hate it.

It's saying imagine. Fuck people who can't even imagine.

and it would be pretty sweet. fuck the kid saying it's fucked. he's fucking fucked

Using the death of innocent people to support your stance on an issue. I know it does prove your point, but to me it seems to early. I feel to emotionally affected by 9/11 and its victims and I feel it is way to early to use them as an example. I don't care who you are when you saw the T.V. that day you where never really the same.

the thought of it reminds of what i read in a thread a few days ago, something like, the more knowledge we gain, the less significant we become.

i've been thinkin about that on and off and i think it's true. the more mankind learns about our existance, the less relevent and interesting religion becomes. and all the little boys being raped and wars and shit doesnt help. i beleive more in the idea of karma than any god. but i guess i'll truly find out when i die. just a thought.

Congrats. You can make a fucking retarded statement which is not only offensive, but also lumps all religious people into the category of violent extremists.

People like you burn me up. Thank God there are so few well funded and violent religious extremists in the world, because you're probably just dumb enough to follow one if the opportunity presented itself.

Without religion there wouldn't be a chance for religious extremists to exist. One less opportunity for a hate group in the world is a good thing I think.

First off, you ignored the primary thrust of my point. Using the sins of the insane few to classify the many.

Second of all, do you think that just because there was no Allah or God or Jesus that people like Bin Laden wouldn't find a reason to kill other people?

Well let's run down a list of names:

Hitler.

Stalin.

Mao.

Hmmmmmmm. Three of the most depraved killers in history. Killing in the name of religion? I think not.

He answered your question in his first sentence.

I highly doubt that if Bin Laden was raised in a world without religion, he wouldn't be the worlds number one most sought out terrorist in the world.

Hitler killed 6 million jews. How does that have nothing to do with religion?

Hitler- 6 million Jews. Not only an ethnic cleansing but a religious one as well

Stalin- His purges. Jews, Poles, non-Orthodox Christians, gays, and Gypsies all on his death list.

Mao- killed those that disagreed with him as well as purged as much of the main cities of Christianity as he could.

First off, no he did not. I didn't ask a question. I pointed out a logical fallacy.

The logical fallacy is:

Because one or a small fraction of a particular group cause harm, that entire group is bad.

Just as I could say: Because I and my Christian friends help the poor and do good things, all Christians are good.

Both are equally false.

Second:

No, Hitler killing Jews had nothing to do with religion. He killed the Jews based on supposed economic effects that they had on his country.

He also killed them on the basis of their race.

Also, you are blaming the victim for the aggressor's wrong. Are you also going to blame blacks for slavery? Because it is the exact same thing. Jews are not only a religious movement, they are also a race.

Once again. Now you are going to blame the aggressor for the victims' choice?

While we're at it, let's blame blacks for slavery.

Twisted thing is to a very small extent you can. Neighboring African tribes would sell each other out to the slavers.

And that relates to the fact that whites considered blacks an inferior species how?

I suppose that we just showed up on the coasts of Africa hoping to find people who would sell out their fellow tribesmen? If Tribe A hadn't been willing to "sell out" Tribe B, we would have just turned around and gone home?

What you say makes no sense and has nothing to do with the issue. Explain to me how being black made slavery the fault of the slaves we brought to this country.

Being black also had nothing to do with neighboring tribes selling out each other. That's called greed. It is a universal human condition.

terrorist groups are going to access this thread and kill every person who has posted something negative about them. the scoreboard has changed.

Both you and panda make some excellent points.

but listen to how defensive you're getting about your faith.

Isn't that how pretty much all the holy wars started? I know i'm blowing that out of proportion but you have to see my point.

And before you hate me, i was raised catholic and i'm dating a girl who is so strongly christian that it often astounds me. So i'm far from anti-religious.

Don't all religions promote peace on earth in some shape or form? why can't we practice what we preach? why should the muslim extremist kill the infidels? they're going to hell eventually according to them, right? Why do you feel the urge to defend your religion so strongly? we're all going to either eventually find Jesus or we wont.

its almost 2 a.m. and if that made no sense, i apologize.

If I may be cliche and answer a question with a question, why do Panda and others like him feel the need to make offensive statements about religion?

Notice that I was not the aggressor.

I saw ignorance. Not my faith being attacked. Ignorance upsets me.

I don't pretend to think that arguing over the internet, or in person for that matter, will ever change someone's mind into believing in God. That's not how it works.

I believe that God has to supernaturally work in the core of someone's being to make them believe. Until that happens, no amount of debate or arguing will change what they want to believe.

What I cannot abide by is people being ignorant and offensive about any subject, whether it be religion, politics, or what freaking fast food burger tastes the best. If you want to make a statement about an issue, make a researched, intelligent statement that does not rely on shock value and/or disrespect of the innocent dead.

If you can't do that, then odds are, you're not qualified to speak.

I attack religion because some of my worst experiences either involved the Church or took place in a Church.

Aren't we all ignorant? Everyone thinks everyone is ignorant on this planet when it comes to a topic like religion, it's a matter of socialization. accusing a person of ignorance is well...ignorant. I think the only person who actually lacks ignorance and knows what they're talking about is the big guy upstairs.

What is described above is not political correctness. It is the creators offending religious sensitivities. It is religion vs. freedom of expression. Nothing political about it.

And for the record, political correctness is one of the best things to happen to society. In the 1970s, the Conservative party over here used the campaign slogan, "if you want a n****r for a neighbour, vote Liberal or Labour". Political correctness has improved community relations tenfold, removed racism and homophobia from the mainstream, and promoted a more liberal society, which doesn't collapse into prejudice and demagoguery all the time.
