I can not believe that the ignorant racists dare to pop their heads up on newschoolers.com. I posted a funny video with Sean Fields, Charlie Lasser and Justin Dorey being interviewed for “HIGEST REGION” and the first comments were ignorant, RACIST, and hurtful to LaRora and Mika.

These African American ladies live and work here in the mountains and are loved in our community. They were psyched that they were going to be posted on the greatest skiing web site. Instead of positive vibes, ugly, stupid, un-funny and racist comments awaited them. That sucks.

Please, calling all up-full people of newschoolers. Please let your voice be heard and support positive vibes. Please help the RACIST skiers leave that shit behind and join the majority of cool people who choose love, skiing and the mountains over ugly ignorance.

 
don't be sorry about "invading". Don't ever be sorry about sticking up for the right thing. Nice job on calling people out - we need more positive people who aren't cowardly. Calling someone else a name or judging people, especially based on anything like looks or background, is nothing but cowardly.

Bump for positive comments and people who care.
 
Agreed 100%, unfortunatly due to the liberality of this site that allows it to be fun and hilarious we do get some racist dumbasses that need some sort of ego check.
 
I've noticed this for a long time too, but unfortunately it is something that is inherent within Newschoolers and is very unlikely to disappear. And I say this only because many of the members of NS are young kids who have no understanding of institutional racism or contemporary forms of racism that is prevalent in the majority of the population. In general, a small percent of the US population are self-proclaimed racists, but racism still runs rampant through our social actions that are learned from US socializations, and so to think that somehow NS will become this haven of equality is ridiculous; although building awareness never hurts.
 
when was thier racism. i have to say it did look out of place, but it was a dope expierince so true that.
 
I fight racism when I see it because racists will assume that you agree with them if you don't raise your voice. NS is just supposed to be a "haven" for skiers. But, if you look at the slopes now...skiers come out in every ethnicity. So, I raise my voice in NS to support equality for our fellow skiers.

unfortunately, like someone else said above, this site has tons of little kids that have no idea how their comments or actions effect others, nor do they really care. but in all honesty i'm sick of seeing threads with n------ this and n----- that, and when someone posts a picture dont call them a f--...another dergatory word. i hate those two words with a passion and i also cant stand it when someone uses those words to try to be cool in the eyes of others. people on here can be brutal. we all know that
 
yeah i know its not gonna happen cause this is the internet but people should really stop using the words fags or n*gger. Its just offensive and not okay to use so commonly. Also what pisses me off is when people say that something is GAY. I'm not gay but seriously, it should be used to describe something negatively.

 
Touchy??? I love to laugh. Funny Jokes are AWESOME. Everyone should be able to laugh at themselves and not take things too seriously. BUT... when something smells more like racism then humor, it's not funny it is hurtful.

South Park, Mencia and others are masters of humor. They help us all laugh at ourselves.

But racist or hurtful comments need to be called out to enlighten the ignorant so we all can do more laughing and less hating.

 
i dont know if you are talking about the comment i made (i thought dorey was dan and was afraid of them) but if that comment was taken the wrong way, it wasnt supposed be taken racistly
 
Really well written. Lately I been really turned off my skiing in general. Being a minority and skiing up with few minorities and hearing racial slurs turned me off to the sport after 12 years of doing what I loved.

Definately a uncomfortable environment unless I'm with people I know, it's more of a hardship now. Ya the easy way was to stop going up skiing but its like a peace of mind for me.

NS is corny mainly because it dosn't have constant mods deleating and banning people for comments they wouldn't dare say in a face to face. I guess I'm here for the homepage updated, and selling away gear.
 
This is why good people have to raise their voices. Dumb ass racists think it's okay to attempt intimidate good people. Stupid racist comments should be confronted and rebutted. The majority of positive "mountain loving" people just want hang in the hills, ski, ride and let the mountain vibes help them get some "piece of mind."

 
for an immature 14 year old that stalks videos and is influenced by racist chatter in NSG, it is their first instinct to say stuff like that, to be funny
 
no one said it was funny, they were reffered to as dumb comments.

also, carlos mencia isn't even mexican, and he's a joke stealer.
 
Newschoolers DID delete the UGLY comments. The thread was started because some tasteless, UNfunny, stupid and ignorant comments were posted on a the video "ATA at the Honda ski tour Aspen."

Freedom of Speech is Priceless....

But racism does not have to be tolorated and I agree with NS.
 
How is that racist? racism is when you are not tolerent of a race. Was the chosing of 25 grand over being dipped in hot chocolate racist? No, not at all. Was dancing to regee music racist? No not at all. It is the people who see the slight little edginess as racisim who make it difficult to get over the fact that races are different and thats the greatest part. All the differences is what makes us each special. Read "the giver". Those "black girls" and I say black girls because they are not from africa, they are american and they are black. Im not european american am I? no, I am american and caucasion. Those black girls know that they are out of place. Black people don't usually ski. But that they are out there, appreciating it, and are just as much a part of it as you and me. Don't look for racism because you wil find it everywhere even in the most tolerent of places. Open your eyes and see that you are the problem. RESPEKT

Yes... Exactly... the woman in the the video rarely ski and had never interviewed skiers before. They live here in the mountains and they love the mountains. They were loving the Honda Ski Tour 'cause the Wailers, Sean Paul, George Clinton and others were involved. They are used to interviewing REGGAE ARTISTS not SKIERS.

The video was funny (to most of us) because they are not asking the same typical questions to skiers.

It was posted for the enjoyment of all New Schoolers.

Mika and LaRora thought it was funny that they were posted on a skiers website. We didn't expect the racist comments that appeared under the link. Newschoolers chose to delete them because it goes against their policy. So... Mountain Loving people just fought down racism.

Which is why we should strive to eliminate racism in the forums, so that it doesn't become their first instinct to say stuff like that. Racism is learned, as is tolerance.
 
racisim is a serious issue in our society. I remember reading my Freeskier and the letter complaining about the lack of coverage on colored skiers. Freeskier calmly replied that the sport of skiing is dominated by white athletes. I support anyone who is into skiing for the fun of it...this includes people of all races, ethnicities, and cultures.
 
I agree with what you sai 100%, but I think this would better be heard by a memeber of higher, moire well known status. Just some guy who joined within the last month, and then trying to get everyone to chamnge just seems a bit wierd.
 
yea he did look afraid. and when we make racism a big deal its funny, because most nags would make fun of a white guy talking about street basketball..... its just something to joke about. a racist would be someone against a race.
 
ummmm, ok. so do you acctually think any skier that watched that video acctually said, i hate them. it was more like a joke calm down. this is being blown out of proportion

most people that make racist comments dont mean them at all and if people take offence to them i think that they are taking themselves too siriously.

im not saying that racism is good or that the the people that commit hate crimes and actually are predjuduce(sp?) shouldnt stop and people should just suck it up. But when little comments that were probly just meant as a joke get blown out of proportion like this then people just need to relax and realize that it was a joke and wasnt meant to be hurtful.

i dont know what the comments were but thats just how i feel about racism in general

personally i think that if it is not intended to really hurt somebody and instead be a joke i think its fine, i have no problem with any other races and i think we should all be able to laugh at each other

and although i could get hate. personally i dont think the word "nig**r" is that bad. white people get called "crackers" all the time and take almost no offense to it or any. so personally i dont think blacks should either. i have a good 5-10 black friends that laugh at it i mean it is just a word. although it could be kinda hurtful if some dickhead decides to use it in that context and all...but i dont see what the big deal is and no i dont say it very often at all. so yeah thats my take on it all

 
To snowXrider540*: First of all don't you know that as soon as you need to annouce how many black friends you have it's a dead give away that you don't really have any black friends it probably means that it's a friend of a friend or you met a black person once. All of the most racist people I've met say I'm not racist I work with someone whose black or I;m not a homophobe I met a gay person once. And the difference between using the N word and cracker is where the words came from. Now my question for you snowXrider540*: Was cracker started when your family was enslaved and beaten on a daily basis or not allowed basic rights as a human? Probably not!! So by you just trying to to say that Cracker and N___ having the same derogatory meaning tells all of us just how ignorant you are. And for anyone else on this site that can justify there racists comments by saying they didn't mean it, it was just meant as a joke...... Well that show all of your real colors on how ignorant you are as well!!!!

As you can tell I am pretty digusted by all of the postings I've seen on this site with the word N_____ and Fag flying around it makes the newschool community look really bad so I agree, anytime someone sees an ignorant posting don't reply to it just email newschoolers and let them know so they can delete it.
 
Black skiers represent! Believe me, its not hard being black and loving skiing as much as I do, specially living 3 hours from a hill and people barely ski at all, let alone black folk. THe last thing we need is people hating on us for something we love.

ITs funny though, because alot of newschoolers dress like us, and act like us, why not appreciate us?

Tons of u guys are not racist which is awesome, I fee sorry for those of u that are. Great thread/
 
Check the New England forum. The thread NIGGACHUSSETT is a perfect example. Tasteless, unnecessary, insulting and plain sad.

I would say grow up, it never seems to stop all of the children from posting comments that prove they're in the processing of doing so however. Being young doesn't mean you have to be ignorant, all of you can choose not to make fools of yourselves.

I hope you do make this choice, we need more educated and considerate members of this community on and off line.
