Some people prone to injury?

I have heard people that have blown out knees three four times and then theres some people that never have to worry about surgery. is it just how they ski or what they ski (urban)or do they just have weak ass joints/bones?

Girls have a higher chance of knee injury due to their physical differences. Other than that, my guess would be a mix of both having weaker ligaments/not being as strong and how hard they go. Blown knees aren't very frequent in urban - impact injuries due to how hard concrete is are more common imo.

If you want more info on knee injuries in skiing, you can read this study -http://ojs.sagepub.com/content/2/1/2325967113519741.full

It's not directly about freestyle skiing though.

yeah i mean dropping huge cliffs probably isn't that great for your knees but landing on a concrete surface with not a lot of snow on it isn't good

True, never said urban was good for your knees. But generally my knees hurt more from lapping park than from hitting urban since I take less hits on a urban feature than spending all day hitting rails/jumps in the park. My knees probably hurt more from hiking up the stairs hitting urban than from the impacts of landing on concrete.

I think over shooting or undershooting in the park is probably the worst thing in skiing for knees.

May be urban legend, but ski patrol at the mountain I worked at used to call people from the UK the Brittle Brits. Claims they broke bones easier due to vitamin D deficiency.

Last week a kid at MHSSC broke his leg going over a roller......a day later I was following my friend on the top of a pipe and fell 20 feet to flat....I was totally fine, its crazy how that works lol

It's a combo of everything.

Some people send it twice as hard as others, so they are more prone to injury. Some people are in better shape and more flexible, so obviously less prone to injury. Some people have better form and style, which makes them less prone to injury. And some people know their limits and what they can safely do and not do, making them less prone to injury.

Its different for every person and yeah, some people will be more likely to get hurt.

I twisted my knee so hard once I thought my knee cap would pop right out of the skin. It totally should have broken something. Walked on it that night seemed ok. Couldn't walk or straighten it the next day, but day after was fine. Lots of falls but only break Ive had was my pointer finger. I broke it in two in a door hinge. Super gross with lots of blood!

I remember a girl falling on her rollerblades while she was just standing there on the grass and broke her arm. I actually didn't believe her because it didn't look that bad and shouldn't have broken.

Some people are weaker than average, like Mr. Glass in Unbreakable.

Agree with this too.

I've taken some pretty hard slams trying tricks but the worst I've ever had skiing is a dislocated shoulder which I just popped back in.

idk. I've noticed I usually only hurt myself when I'm doing stupid shit I shouldn't be doing (climbing a sculpture and when I see a cop, jump down and hyperextend my knee). Follow the rules and don't be an idiot and your chances decrease dramatically. Like it seems like a no brainer, but every now and then, check in and ask yourself if you should be doing this.

Obviously, it is inevitable for some people to get injured from time to time, and that really depends what aspect of the sport you are doing, your height, weight, din setting, strength, and many more.

tl;dr don't be an idiot.

A few things I've learned:

Stay healthy. Stay fit

Stretch before and after.

Start small. I won't do big tricks until at least 3 hours of skiing.

Take breaks frequently. Slow down if you are tired.

These are all no brainers but it's good to keep these in mind.
