I now me thinking there is bound to be something bad to come of it. Here goes nothing, note this is just a thought..

Today i health class (Yeah im the only senior in health) we were looking at AIDS, and how the southern part of Africa has 28 million cases of AIDS. Think about Africa with me folks, AIDs, mostly uncivilized (to our standards), genocide, murder, rape, and many other diseases. I think we SAVED so many lives during Slavery. Think that if we didnt go there, all the slaves would have either died some other way or very rarely lived a long life. I know slavery was cruel, but slavery couldnt be worse than having your whole family raped or have them get AIDs or something, right? And think of their generation, those children whos ancestors were brought to America live prosporous lives in America now. I'm not saying you cant have a good life in Africa, but compared to the amount in America I think Slavery has benefitted and will continue to benefit the generations of african americans. Lets face it, if we didnt bring them to America it wouldnt matter Africa would still be a 3rd world continent with the terrible shit it goes through every day.

I didnt write this as well as I hoped but you get the point.
 
thats a good point man even if a black person in america has to live with terreible living standards and watnot living in harlem or compton is def better than africa
 
The reason africa is so fucked up is because of America and European countries during imperilism. Countries went to Africa set up colonies and chose groups or tribes of the local people to sort of rule for them. The often chose the group who looked or resembled more european than others. Then when the resources ran dry or gave he country their indepance they left. This created a power vacum that they began to fight for control and/or get revenge for the ways they were treated by rival tribes when the europeans had them in control. basically if Europeans didnt fuck with them during the 1800s Africa wouldnt be nearly as fucked up with genocide and civil war that it is now....

This is the exact reason we cant leave iraq because it will turn into civil war and genocide of the losing sect.
 
You = retarded, period. Ever thought about what they want? They don't want to be slaves. I'd rather run around hunting and living life with aids than being aidsless and a fucking slave. Do you even understand the concept of slavery? Do you even realize how horrible it was? If you're over the age of 14 then you need to go back to middle school and get learn you head fuck.
 
most slave owners werent as bad as they were painted up to be... of coarse slavery is fucked and im sure there was a number of people who were fucked in how they treated them... but even when they were freed most stayed and worked for the previous masters.

 
Read my fucking post. I said Slavery was cruel, sure, but think about the generations of children born non-slaves that have been (for the lack of a better word) saved from living in present-day Africa. And anyhow, you think Slavery is bad? Don't tell me having your whole family raped and murdered isn't bad. Hell, girls can get STONED TO DEATH for asking the guy they are about to have sex with (regardless if they agree or not) to wear a CONDOM!

Side-note on the Imperialism thing, I think if anything Imperialism would HELP civilized Africa. Look at South Africa (the Country), its the most civilized (I believe) and happends to be one of the most imperialized areas.
 
South Africa is the only exception... it is also ruled by whites.... imperilism did nothing to help the majority of Africa. Watch hotel rwanda....gives a perfect example of a fight for power after a european country dipped on the country.
 
Either way tribes have been fueding for hundreds of hundreds of years between eachother. And up to the point in the 1600's when Slaves were taken they were still FAR FAR more uncivilized and unintelligent(in modern technology wise, still very smart if you think about the Nomads and such) than Europe and America.
 
they stayed with the previous masters because they couldn't go anywhere else for work. The former slave masters found a way for the former slaves to rent the land with rediculous rent values, so they couldnt leave until they paid it off, but the debt went up and up, and the people were like slaves again
 
yes they were fighting but when europeans started carving up africa into colonies... they did it not based on tribal lands but where they claimed... so instead of getting al of one group of people they would bunch half of one tribe with half of another and call it a new country.
 
Still, during this time everywhere in the world was becoming more and more advanced and I would only think that being introduced to modern technology by the imperilistic countrys would modernize Africa. I think Africa's cause of chaos and uncivilization is the lack of unity.
 
Think about this

If America had never imported slaves they wouldnt have had nearly the amount of economic growth that they had during the 18 and 19th century. Without this growth we probably never would have bought the louisiana purchase, which means all you west of the mississippi would be part of france. Meanwhile Africa would never have experienced HIV or AIDS because the US is the one that introduced it to their continent. They would probably still have an enormous population and therefore obvious food shortages, but what would they do with all those people, attack the US. Hell we would probably end up being their slaves.

There it is.
 
Thats the dumbest and most generalistic GUESS (at best) ive ever heard. In a perfect world, maybe, but the variables to think about is far more complex.

no YOU are amoron. The CIA created HIV as a way to control the population. They tried it on monkeys in africa and unfortunately it spread into humans, and is now completely out of control. Im sorry i said US instead of CIA, that must have confused you.

Its not a story is a logical thought, there is a big difference. The story is rational enough, but nevertheless a sensitive issue and id say controversial.

I understand that when im talking about this idea im accepting the fact that we gave many more Africans better lives by bringing them to America and putting their ancestors through slavery (yes yes I understand slavery is wrong)

slavery did kill a lot of people and did put a lot more of their future generations into extreme poverty....

but hey at least they don't have AIDS, right???

What are you talking about? The black generation in America lives MUCH better lives than those in Africa right now (mostly), the only kicker is we had their ancestors as slaves for a couple hundred years.
 
To be frank their culture is shit and living in Africa as the average African would be hell in our eyes. I guess you have a point, but you have to think of the suffering Africans endure today whereas African Americans dont (due to their elders "taking one for the team")

I don't want to be a dick about this because everyone is entitled to their own opinion but do you honestly think our culture is above all? Just because we have a high standard of living doesn't mean that our culture is the best. To be honest North Americans have one of the shallowest cultures I have ever seen. What is hell in our eyes is home in theirs.
 
youre forgetting one important factor. What about the thousands of people that died on the way over here from Africa? or the thousands more that died during slavery? Unfortunately they never got to have kids. so slavery in effect denied their children existence, even if it might have been one of poverty.

now imagine that one of your great great great great grand parents was one of those captured africans and they died on the boat over to America. You dont exist. you will never experience skiing. how does that feel?
 
You should look up the definition of ETHNOCENTRISM and Cultural Relativity. But mostly Ethnocentrism, and realize what you just said.
 
I dont think that slavery is right at all. The Africans are the ones who need to control themselves. The governments are so shitty there and thats the reason for all the shit that goes down there. But then again we need to help them do that I think because we have the power to make great change over there.

Basically this is a dumb argument that you tried to make.
