alright guys so i snowboard and i have been doing it for awhile and everything but i actually wanna ski reallll bad. im on this site because skiing is dope as fuck and there is no site like this for snowboarding and this is like the sickest site ever. but i decided i am going to switch over next year. i already got a pair of fujatives and some boots. i have skied a few times and im actually dece at it. so what do you guys think? how long do you think it will take me to be decent at park and all? thanks.

my friend converted fast its really helpful to have a setup at home of a rail and a 3able jump and practice rails and 3s and 1s then go to the mountain and work on it on bigger stuff and the turning and stuff should only take about two days to figure out

it all depends on how u adapt to it, i know a few people who were able to get pretty good within months, for me its taken a whiile

if your already good at snowboarding you should be able to switch really easily. my snowboarder friend skiied maybe 10 times this year, and after those 10 days he was able to straight air 45 footers, nose butter, 270 out, switchup, and get pretty steezy 3's on 15 footers. skiing and snowboarding are super similar in alot of ways, skis and snowboards make the same movements to carve, flex similar, feel similar on rails, feel similar in the air. so it should be pretty easy.
my friend wants to totally switch next year, he has 2 sponsors and wins lots of comps, but he said he is sick of the attitude and everything, like with snowboarding people hate way too much and judge you a shitload, and he has talked to a couple pro skiers and he said they are way nicer than snowboarder pro's. which was wierd to hear cause there is a ton of hate on newschoolers and snowboarding almost seems more chill in alot of ways.
his biggest reason was that skiing is changing alot and changing very fast, and its got more oppertunity to be a part of something new.
anyway its pretty cool that snowboarders are siwtching, snowboarding is awesome and all, but its awesome to see skiing get more respect.

One of my bro's was a die hard snowboarder. He decided to convert. I think he is better at skiing than he ever was snowboarding. His first year he was throwing 3/5's with grabs 7/9's with real good pencil style. He can't slay rails or boxes for shit though. hahaha. He definately has balls, and take some ajor falls. I think it' sick thouigh because he never skied before in his life, as he grew up with his feet attached to a board. I don't think he will strap himself up again. If you want it bad, go out this year have fun and kill it.

I started skiing when i was 9 but switched to snowboarding when i was 14 and i have snowboarded ever since (i'm 21 now), i've even been i whistler for the past two seasons, but i haven't had the best luck on a snowboard, i broke my plevis last season and my wrist this one, after my wrist injury i really didn't feel like snowboarding any more, i know it's really stupid to quit because of injuries cause it comes with the sport, but anyways one day me and my friend switched so i tried her skis and i got so hooked on it so the next day i went out and bought boots, skis and poles and i haven't snowboarded since. i think i got pretty good at boxes and rails pretty fast cause i did a lot of park when i snowboarded so you kinda have the feel of it, i'm a bit more scared of jumps cause those are the ones i always gets hurt on.. but i'm also really lucky on skis cause i have some really good guys to ski with who are stoked to teach me stuff and really takes the time to explain it to me.. but now i'm back in denmark where's there no snow or mountains :( but i'm going on a ski camp in saas fee in switcherland in 3 weeks, i'm so stoked about skiing, you should deffently try it, it changed my life for sure..

Hey, don't hate, this is a skiing website!

Anyways, it shouldn't be too hard man. One of the great things about switching is that your balance will come easier than it would just starting from scratch. I found that my snowboarding skills with balance and weight transfer actually helped my skiing. Snowboarding, telemarking, monoskiing, etc are all ways to improve overall skiing ability. I don't think it should take you too long, especially if you're a decent athlete. Besides, its all about effort. Put in the work and you'll get good.

the hardest part about skiing is getting the turns.

get those dawn hard then think about the park

the hardest thing about park is getting the balls to do things.

you can learning to broadside a rail in 30 minutes.

but getting the balls to try it bigger and bigger is the hard part.

same as spins.

you toss your shoulders, catch an edge on the lip, then sink your landing.

but a 540 on a 5ft kicker is less phase then a 5 on the 25ft.....

Skiing was super easy for me to switch to, i snowboarded from when i was little then decided to switch freshman year, i was almost landing 3's on a 35 foot step up my first day. Went the whole season this year skiing and now i can easily throw down with the rest of my skiing friends, if you are committed you should be hitting the park first week, and a actually decent skier within a month.

I ski! Well, I ski. And I'm a skier plain and true. So yes, it's cool he's dropping it.

This is a skiing website after all.

So?....we can both have our opinions. I have tons of respect for skiers. Have you ever seen me bash skiing on here? No. And I'm not doing it now.

It just sucks he's dropping snowboarding. That's all.

i was in the park after one week of skiing and i hadn't skiied for 6 years.. you just have to comit to it that's my best advice, i fell down pretty hard in the begining, but you just have to keep going at it.

i just have a question for you guys, i bought the 4frnt tnk as my first twintip, mosty because it was the only twintip i could get in my size in mid april (i'm 5.2) and they were only 300 cad.. but i think they'r are a bit stiff, don't know if its just me and it's because i had a really flexy snowboard, well anyways i'm looking for a softer ski for next season, do you guys have any suggestions?

i snowboarded for 8 years, but i was never really that comfortable with it to get good at rails or jumps. I switched over to skiing just this year. Within 3 months i could do 3's of bigger jumps, hit rails switch, and 270 out. I now have a passion for something, but i am now going through withdrawl since it is summer here.

its basically all depending on how ballsy and daring u are. My friend is like physco and has been snowboarding forever and he uses my skis alot and hes amazing. The second time he used them he did a backflip off a jump we made in the woods and then the next time it was a backflip over a 45 footer at whiteface. so it all depends on whether u wanna go big or not but u should be able to jus ski down the mt in about 4 days

I switched to skiing during the 07-08 season. I learned how to ski when I was like 3, but I always hated it so I started snowboarding. Last year I wanted to try skiing again and I decided that I loved it. I never thought I would stop snowboarding, but after a few years on NS and watching ski movies I wanted to give it a try. I still do both, but most of the time I am skiing. It's awesome because you progress so much in your first few weeks. Then you kinda level out and it gets harder to progress, but it still rules. Definitely give it a try, but I don't think you should completely give up snowboarding because it's so fun.

i was once a snowboarder. i switched when i was the only boarder in my group of friends whom i rode with regularly. that was 5 years ago and i am still on skis. i will still jump on a snowboard a few times a year but skiing has stolen my heart to say the least.

skiing is easier to learn, but harder to master than snowboarding. you see first year boarders rippin lines all the time, but very few first year skiiers could skillfully handle a dub diamond.

my friend who snowboards tried out skiing for the first time last year. On his first day trying park he did the c box. He was way good for a begginer. I think switching from board to ski gives you an advantage on rails because you already no how to do them. He blows at jumps though.

glad to hear your switching, i was like i snowboarded for a while and just got bored of it and switched to skiing and it took me a while to actually try park stuff but then once i did i picked it up pretty quick, like within the same seasn i switched

my friends a really good boarder and every once and i while we switch and he can hit 60ft tables after skiing only a few times and can do street setup rails.

so i'd say you could probly get better pree fast.

yah my friend did the exact same thing as you. he got the hang of it really fast man. but he also rollerbladed so that might have helped too. just try it out man im sure youll love it

hahah i think its great for them but i get that feeling to .... but its only been like two seasons for me... although last year i wouldnt really count cause i didnt really try many things this year i went at it though and still didnt make as much prgress as i would have liked

the thread creator roller blades, and is pretty dece too which makes me belueve he will get good at skiing fast. also, we traded last year (i ski) and we both killed it on groomers, im sticking with skiing though derrr, but yea doug youll kill it real fast

heres my advice: dont do it man. relearning sucks, and you end up having as much fun on skis as a board. so unless you want to challenge/frustrate yourself, stick to your guns. skiing = riding = good times!

thats dumb. some people have far more talent for one thing than another, like this kid, hes just stuck because of cost (buying skis, boots, etc) now that he has the stuff he should go for it

I had snowboarded my whole life up until this past winter. Nobody believed that I was going to put forth any effort into converting onto stick's ... so i took a semester off of college, got some old Armada AR5's from a buddy and a pair of old school fujatives, moved to Big Sky Resort (in montana), worked 3 days a week and spent the other 4 on the shred hill... not to mention skiing all day at work as a lifty bum... haha. It was a hard transformation, but after this season... I fucking love it, and will never go back to snowboarding.

Yeah i just converted to skiing like more than midway through the season, and i was doing 540's pretzels, i even got a 450 out once, all rails and boxes, then after i did the jib academy i got even better. i even tryed going cork. So it shouldnt be too bad.

i doubt it'll take you long at all, i snowboarded a little bit and it didn't take me long at all to be able to do some stuff

Look even Biittner can ski, I found this pic on his myspace.

This was my 3rd season skiing..i used to snowboard and wasn't very good at it..i mean i could like boardslide and 3 and sometimes 5 but at the end of my first year skiing i learned like 270on and off, 1's 3's switchups..2nd year i got 5's down and multiple switchups on rails and cleaner spins on and then this past season i got 7's and a wide variety of rail tricks/pretzles down..so im sure you will progress pretty fast

I used to snowboard and switching to skiing was the best choice i ever made

and in one season you should be pretty decent

ive gotten 2 of my friends to convert, or at least helped to

they both picked up on skiing really fast, you should get pretty good within a couple months to a season

I started skiing in gr.8, and now I`m just going into gr.11. I had never done any snowsports beside cross country skiing until that point, except for the odd school skiing trip. But as soon as I went with a bud, I fell in love with skiing. My first powder day was gay because I didn`t know how to turn, I kept falling on my face. This winter I had a 60 cm pow day where I witnessed other people falling, wishing it was sunny and slushy, or that they were back in Minnesota, and I was getting faceshots all day. It`s all come full circle.
