Snow Watch 07/08

i got bad news for stevens. part 1 orientation was today, and i heard that the long term plan as far as global warming goes is to have a 3 month season this year unless somthing changes. meaning that unless some big dump comes in stevens is planning on oppening in january and only staying open to march. hella gay i know

Haha, Stevens would never do something like that. As greedy as that company is a 3month season won't create any profit for the big wigs. As some people on NS say: Pictures or it didn't happen.

By the way April fools isn't for another 5 months.

Dont know what your talking about but on monday they are going to decied if they want to push the bugeted opening back a week. theres not a chance in hell we would only be open for 3 months. thats just crazy talk.

I awoke to a text this morning saying it was snowing here in Ellensburg. I thought "bullshit" as I was out til 4 with no precep, so I looked out and its fucking mixed. Two hours later I look out and its dumping. Weird shit but ill take any snow I can at this point.

Wohoo we got a tough guy! why such hate on that comment especially. If you wanna talk shit talk to someone I'm not the guy thats starting a rumor of stevens being open for only 3 months. And another thing you better watch who your talking to cause you sure the fuck don't know me!

my guess is hoose meant to quote the guy above, but regardless, he's the man; you simply can't fuck with him (even though he resides in CO, but is back in WA).

And it would seem silly to simply set 3 months to be open in a business that can use all the days it can get, especially if there is sufficient snow. I could never imagine a mountain being closed around Christmas and New Years if they had an operable base- that's like money money time.

just got back from baker.

good coverage everywhere it seems, pan dome is fucking caked and beautiful. no rock dodging was had this weekend, infact it was the fluffiest snow ive skied in a while. snow at both lodges, the chute has almost filled in.

pictures hopefully coming tonight.

or you could have faith.

I feel like I should be quoting scripture right here

something along the lines of:

and he cast the unfaithfull unto the fires, whereas they may burn there repentence.

No snow in hell cynic.

I was up hiking at Alpental (snow lake) today and it was snowing pretty hard all day. So beautiful!

Some snowboards set up a little like 2 foot long rail in the trail above the Alpental upper lot, that was cute. Reminded me of the ghetto rail of ours from years back. Oh memories.

great snow at baker today, perfect calm conditions and about 7 inches of blower on top of cascade pow. schmitz hiked to table mountain and took a long run, i stopped just before it and sessioned a little cliff band - it was only about 12-15 feet down but the landing was perfect, it felt like a nice january pow day. Couldn't have asked for better conditions today, honestly

Well this weekend’s snowfall has been a little disappointing, bringing 5 inches of new snow and increasing our base to 15 inches. Certainly a help, but the jet stream moved a little too far south of us and the temps came in warmer than projected so we remain on hold for operation.

Monday looks to bring some more snow, which MAY bring enough to do a small very limited opening later in the week. However, we’re putting a lot of hope on Monday because after that from Tuesday through Friday it looks like high pressure and it is unlikely we will gain much for this week after Monday's system.

We’ll I guess it's still hiking for turns or dirtbiking still.

Ellensburg got a couple inches last night and it dumped all day. Now its kinda melting with some mixed rain but were supposed to get more snow here soon.

Ok…we’re going to use the “first the good news” line here in saying that it is currently 30 degrees and snowing lightly up on the mountain. However, our great hope for Monday’s snowfall has materialized 2 inches of new snow bringing our base to 16 inches. Unfortunately, only sunshine is in the forecast through next Monday.

Our grooming crew is out on the mountain now prepping a few beginner runs to see how the base holds up. We know that many of you are simply excited just to be back on the mountain so we are still considering the possibility of opening a very limited number of lifts with only a few runs open this weekend– but once again, that is entirely dependent on how this base holds up after grooming.

In any case, for you hikers and snow lovers, we will have the Heather Meadows Lodge and the Retail Shop open this Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 11am to 4pm and hopefully that will help give you a chance to enjoy the sunshine on the mountain that is forecasted.

We will be sure to keep you posted if anything WHITE falls!

whoever works at baker should tell them they should set up a hikable rail garden at least with just a few rails/boxes. that would be neat.

hot off the presses from heaven and mother earth: Skiing or snowboarding of any kind anytime in the next two weeks will result in an absolute damnation into the fire of hell. and will result in less powder days forever. Wait for a couple weeks and you shall be blessed with many powder days for the rest of your lives.

Spread the word.
