Snow Watch 06/07

this is almost a pineapple express. but instead it developed further north, so it isnt bringing all that much in the way of warmth. It is still kind of warm (in the low 50s right now) but the passes should still be getting colder air from the east, so it wont rain up there (or so we can hope). either way, its going to dump a lot, and thats a good thing.

hmmmmmm

"while gusts will peak well over 100 mph in the Cascades"

thats pretty intriguing. If that shit lingers into tomorrow morning, nobody will ski, and that means extra goods for saturday (as well as mega gnar avy danger), oh and ice too on those knoby wind exposed places

That was very cool Grant!

We've got a 100+ ft tree that fell onto kevin's friend's truck last night in our driveway, its laying across our ENTIRE yard. Crazy night to say the least.

yeah, about that.... Went skiing on Friday night up at Stevens. Holy fucking shit. So much snow, your tracks would be covered by the time you got back up to the top of the lift. It was me, my friend and about 40 other people up there, sooooooo nice. But then..... fuck. I break off a cornice at the wrong moment and my friend gets swamped in snow. We spend 30 min looking for his ski from the slide. So we call it quits near skyline and hit up Chief and Tye. good skiing, but then we venture back towards skyline. As I'm traversing along the side of the run, staying really high right under 7th, a 140 foot section of the ridge just DROPS out from under me, and thunders down towards the run. It was like 8 inches deep, and it just ripped along my path. After that, I was like, fuck this, so we took a few easy runs and then went back to the car around 8, which was buried in snow. As we're digging it out, the power goes, and the world is plunged into darkness. Soooo creepy up there. But yeah, we made it back, nowhere had power (or fast food, and we were starving) until we hit Bellevue. Crazy....

WELL I made it to the lodge fri night, but it was pitch black closed. luckely some kind folk let us in the cabin just above. Sat was pretty good. Dropped tye a few times and hiked shims meadow. and then traversed way out on big chief ending up at US 2. patroller almost gave me a ticket after saying through the PA "find your way back into the woods!"

it was great day, cept too bad the backside didn't open...

oh, and tye mill chair's deisel engine burned out and people had to repell down with that t-bar thing.

thats pretty shiesty of the cop. just say youre a weekend warrior and got lost in the woods :( then start crying, ahah

mmm, freshies at stevens today anyone? fucking epic today, and highway 2 was closed for a few hours, leaving the fresh nice and untouched

Fuck. I took the day off cause i had gone 5 days in a row and I had both shin bang and toe was black and blue. My bro calls me up to tell me how epic it was, now I think I might have to head up tomorrow.

Perhaps tomorrow morning, depends on Kevins plans.

Yesterday at Hyak was a blast, NOBODY ever goes there! There was so much good snow.

christmas day at crystal......tons of new snow

BUT...you had to sit for an hour waiting for rex to open, while watching ingrid take lap after lap and rip up all the pow.

What the fuck? I was in Cali with my family and somehow my sister drives up to Seattle just to run over my dog... good story Kevin!

i would like to know why.

crystal's management is in love with ingrid backstrom, and allowed her to go up a bunch of times before they officially opened the lift.

was anyone shooting like warren miller, becuase crystals manegment is in love with them to, I heared they cloased down the king for two weeks to let it fill in for a warren miller shoot.

Holy shit Stevens Looks crowded!!! Can't wait till all the kids go back to school. Next Tuesday I'm hoping to get lucky with a sick day, either Blue bird park day or a pow day.

stevens had to turn people away today. it was to crowded no where to park. they filled up the lots even 1 and 5 miles away.

Stevens was definitely busy, but i'm not really surprised. We're in for the long haul now that ski school is starting soon. Today the rental line was extraordinarily long. It extended from the rental place to the front of Granite Peaks...it's crazy that people wait in lines like that for rental gear.

Yeah... secrets secrets for Stevens too. If you bring a buddy that needs a ticket, try hitting the rental shop if the lines are long, the shop sells tickets too...

Yeah it was nuts. Luckily all my friends have seasons passes for the most part. I have never seen it that busy. The park was sick today ntil they shut down brooks for some reason.

It was probably for the Rage film crew, they were there for afew days last week. They did a lil rail session one night on the main stairs at the base... it was pretty sick.

Yeah, it felt like it was 60 degrees when I was walking from my car to the office this morning. They said on the radio that it was 50 degrees... this was at 7am... totally lame.

Boo Hoo no skiing for me today!!! Hopfully it turns cold tonight and starts poopin. gives me a chance to get my bindings fixed. Boise State is the shit.

Fuck, that kinda sucked. We did 2 or 3 hours before we were all wet and not as smiley. My gear is making a puddle on my carpet right now, I better go fix that... anyways, kinda sucky, skiing in the pouring rain is so crazy tho that all of us were having fun, despite being soaked. Sorry Ashley, but hey, if you can take this on your first day at Stevens, you can take whatever the Northwest throws at you.

And yes, going off the groomed is no good. I did a headplant when I landed and my skis just kinda stayed put...

Today was AMAZING at Stevens...not many people earlier in the day so we basically got first run on seventh..faceshots and tons of fun was definitely abundant all day. I hope this snow keeps up through the weekend!!!
