PS4..

Its never going to come out on mac. They can't do anything about that until the engine (Cry Engine) will support mac at this point they don't. It doesn't matter any way because a mac couldn't run the game any ways. Unless you're the dumbest mother fucker out there and got a mac gaming pc

How do we sign up to get access to the beta when it comes out

dont take my word for it but since we havent seen any promo crap ("like us on facebook or do blah blah blah for an access code!!") i would guess it's just an open beta that you find and download when it releases. like battlefield has a new game coming out and my friends told me to check it out, i just searched for the beta on ps4 and downloaded it and played. dont have enough experience with games to tell you if that's the norm or not, sorry

im hyped for this even if it isnt amazing. i havent played my ps4 much and i think a replacement for Skate would be sick

SNOW. I have already payed 60$ for this game on PC. Now you want 20$ for the OPEN BETA on PS4? What the heck are you guys doing? I find this a bit outrageous. I mean, I want to support this game but charging for a open beta? What's up with that?

They look incredibly different.

Tell me the game isn't completely pointless, you can't rank up fast enough to actually have fun trying to unlock stuff. You literally need to buy credits to be able to buy anything past your first set of goggles. It's not getting more hype than snow because it is 'more reputable,' or 'successful,' do you really think skiers care about knowing that shit? It's because snow died when it launched for free, people realized it was pointless.

As for 'They have a disadvantage,' sorry, bud. this is the real world, you don't get handicaps for not having enough resources to do your job properly. Maybe you don't understand that though, you're the one pouring your heart out on NS for a video game.

check out this handicap, claiming one video game is more pointless than the next.

cherry on top; he thinks ubisoft will make a better game than snow. :^)

cue toxic butthurt paragraph long post that I won't read

do you know how little money you make as an independent game developer for a niche game?

don't buy weed for one week and support these men getting no sleep busting their asses trying to entertain you.

I completely understand man, that's why I chose to pay 60$ for the PC version when it was aviliable for only 15$. I wanted to support this game. But now charging for a open Beta? And then are they charging more for the game? And everything in game cost money too? Seems a bit outrageous, as I just got into the steep beta for free.

Just like for the PC version, we charge for an earlier version of the game and then will go free-to-play in the future. As mentioned previously in this post, we are a small self financed team (of 7) working as hard as we can to make this game a reality. We have gotten this far thanks to the support of the Newschoolers community and hope that those of you that haven't been able to play yet will get the PS4 Beta.

If you already have the PC version and want to get the Beta, I appreciate that spending more money might seem harsh. Unfortunately there's nothing we can do about it. But know that your money is going directly to us and not some publisher.

We're making this game for the love of the sports and will continue to do so as long as we have the support of the community.

Also.. we've been working on a big urban level that is getting close to being done. We're aiming at launching it this winter. Here's a teaser, just for you guys!

Are you ever going to improve animation and controls? EVER?

Like the game's not even remotely fun to play. I don't care that there's urban, I just don't want to play the game because of the shitty control system that doesn't work as well as gnarshmallow, let alone shredsauce.

With major publishers entering the market you'd think you guys would get blown away by their money, but having played steep there's no reason why you can't compete if your mechanics weren't fucking garbage.

he's right, sadly, something is just really awfully off about the skiing mechanics. It feels better to play shredsauce, and it shouldn't be that way.

I've played it and honestly I thought it was fun. Sure it's not great but then again why are we sitting inside and playing video games? It will never be comparable to skiing and we just have to accept that

Stoked!!!!! I'm getting Day 1 and also Going to Live stream day 1 after work. If anyone is down to watch I can share my YouTube account. Might even make up a thread. Going to have to definitely rep NewSchoolers in my stream too. Only 2 more Days!!!!!

You didnt have to pay $60. You could have waited till it was free. Its $20 just like how it was on pc and it will be free after open beta.

Animations require complex code setup to make it as good as you see in other AAA games. We have 1 programmer and no full-time animator so we can only make tweaks and improve the animations over time. The 0.9.0 update will have a lot of animation improvements, but don't expect the same quality as you see in Battlefield 1.

What issues do you see with the controls? They're not perfect, but compared to the games we're inspired by or competing with, we don't see that as one of our main weaknesses. 0.9.0 will also include some improvements in handling and grinding.

I know animations require complex setup, but they're really not that hard with a decent IK rig and a solid maths grounding.

The controls, once airbourne, are sluggish and unintuitive. They don't resemble the way skiers move, and they don't produce results that mirror the way skiers spin. It's not that hard - a skier in the air approximates to a gyroscope, and the physics surrounding them is very well defined, so it really shouldn't be hard to implement.

There's a school of game development that (thankfully) died out in the early 2000s, which I think snow falls into. Developers would provide a 'physics' based game with very simple, flexible, and unintuitive mechanics, in the hope that players will combine the few mechanics in creative and imaginative ways to achieve desired results. While some dedicated players did this, the vast majority of players felt they were fighting the game more than anything else, so they left.

For example, imagine FIFA without pass assist. Some players would enjoy the extra accuracy they would get with practice, but 90% at least probably couldn't be bothered.

With snow, I always feel like I'm fighting the mechanics. I know that I can do a flat 5, if I press the correct buttons. I can get something like a cork, and I can do an overflip and an underflip pretty easily. Anything else? I just can't be bothered to figure them out.

Read about the maths of off-axis rotations, them implement them. Start by hard-coding things in a way that it's virtually impossible to fail (press a certain button to do a cork 7 or flat 5 or whatever), then build a control system around that, then implement failure.

That's how skate's controls were made, and if their controls weren't so good I wouldn't have spent nearly as long playing it.

Yes this! Pls devs 1 keystroke for a certain trick, the game will feel so rewarding to play. Then people with only 1 finger can play the game the way it's meant to be played. Or not.

I'd Agree. Even though I have played THE SHIT out of this game better physics with air rotations and rail mechanics would make this game way more fun to play

Excited to give it a whirl on the 25th! So rad to see all the progress over the years. Tip of the toque to everyone who made it possible!

I was being sarcastic. I agree that the physics need work, but removing the "skill" aspect removes the rewarding feel when you nail that line you were working on.

I don't think you understand me. I never suggested releasing a version which is completely impossible to fail in, but to me it seems a critical part of the development pipeline. You make a guided mechanic that works, then you make it harder.

When the dev team for skate started developing the fantastic flick-based controls they were literally working with a command line, they would try a gesture with the right stick and the trick they performed would be printed to the terminal. No graphics, no physics, the game stripped down to its bare bones so they could develop a control scheme that was fun.

I absolutely adore skate & its controls, but I don't see a way to incorporate a similar control scheme onto a computer. Maybe you could do sequences of keystrokes, or a num-pad, but I don't think it would translate that well. Definitely think the controls need a revamp, and it would be fantastic if they could do it in a similar fashion to skate thatd be stellar

even on pc, the game is best played with a controller. It should be designed around that imo, keyboards are clunky

I'm stoked on this game and will more than likely be doing a live stream tomorrow. Maybe tonight depending when it drops in the ps store. I'm pumped to finally get to play this.

Well, you've really done it now poppermost. Why should people have to have to pay for maps who already forked out $20 in order to support you guys. I'm down with some areas of the F2P model of game making but, you're just going to shun you're original supporters?
