SNOW: freeride/freestyle skiing game

Love the new beta so far!

You get going really fuckin fast though (especialy when landing off jumps and natural airs) and it can be very hard to move well without smashing into rocks and trees

I'm pretty impressed, does the game end yet when you get to the crowd and tally points? It looks great btw on my machine, props guys and gals (if there is any gals)

Third, fix the damn rails, its looks just silly. Once again, shredsauce looks great when it comes to rails, Im sure its not a hard fix.

It's a lot harder to fix rails in snow than in shredsauce, it's a bit more complex of a game. I do agree that they need to be fixed though.

Dropping in for a few games this afternoon.

Anyone fancy trying out the multiplayer at some point?

ill try it out! pm me and we can figure out a time to test it. havent been able to yet

So does the free to play closed beta actually start today? The price is still $9.99 on the steam store. Or is there somewhere else to get it if I signed up for the closed beta?

Good question!

The Closed Beta launched today. What that means is that we will be inviting everyone who signed up though our website to join the Beta on a rolling / first come, first serve, basis. We need to make sure our servers can handle all the new users so we are only letting in small batches of users first before we let more and more people in.

Hopefully in the next few days/weeks you will get your key (depending on when you signed up).

Just played for an hour yesterday after the newest update, there are obviously still a few tweaks that need fixing(beta), but it is looking pretty damn good again now, no rocks just popping up half a second before you hit them anymore. A few things I noticed:

- the screamin seamen bug is still there(think I did a penta flip once), sometimes when doing a prewind cork with a screamin it'll speed the spin up like crazy.

- scrubbing off speed, I found your new controls in this area to be very annoying, whenever I tried to do the old "quick turn"(ex. d+s) it would try to slide to switch and just go out of control, pretty annoying in shutes and tight stuff.

- can this guy please get a pair of goggles at least :(

- nice job on halfpipe!

- third jump in the LO2 park is still bugged, sometimes when going into it I would hit an edge right before going on to the jump itself which stopped my prewind.

All in all there are a few tweaks to be done but it is starting to look pretty damn good! Nice job on the rewind feature as well!

Since the new update, when I try to load a map (sialia, s games, fochi) the game just loads forever. I've let it load for 20mins but then I said fuck that. Is this just a problem I'm experiencing or is anyone else having this issue?

we are aware of this issue and are looking into it. sorry for the inconvenience!

Does it have anything to do with how large of a map it is? Just wondering as I know previous iterations had a ridiculously high ceiling that didn't seem necessary, as well as spanning terrain that you couldn't access without flying to that seemed even more unnecessary to have.

In terms of being able to enjoy this game I think you guys are starting to get closer. The character still needs to be able to turn harder, think the "looseness" of ssx on tour, for as crazy as it was the skiing mechanics are closer than what you guys currently have in my opinion. Hell even with the loosness it was easier to lock into rails, or at least line up with them first try. The slowdown/ turn feature shouldn't really put you switch, it just looks like you are on a ski with no edges.

More thought needs to go to the controller, as this really is a game that would be boring on a keyboard- leave that shit to mmo's and fps's. I don't see kids playing skate on a keyboard because it's more fun.

Rails need the most work next to skiing mechanics. I'd like to see a balance feature, because that really makes rails less boring, why would I hit a rail just to watch the guy slide on it for a second or two? There is no really no fun or challenge in doing it. Stop making cool parts to the map, that can come after all the mechanics of the game are finished.

I pretty much agree that gameplay has to be a tad more fun, balance meter on rails would make that aspect have more purpose, if you not lined up exactly, the physics are off, and it's impossible to dial in speed so that you can slide the whole rail without usually just tapping the end.

I'm genuinely interested in the thought process behind the beta invite. As a preface, I had no problem spending the $15 I did at the time, and I would definitely do it again. With that being said, I don't understand why anyone who paid for the game couldn't automatically get a beta key. It just seems kind of counterproductive to me to advertise as free to play with the option to buy in to early access, then down the line re-introduce a whole new submission process for additional early access.

I'm sorry but you must be confused.. if you joined the Early Access, you have had access to the Closed Beta since March 10th - a good few weeks before everyone else. You don't have to sign up at all - just go and play!

I've been waiting and I literally just got an email with a code today

yes! free in game credits and such for completing events. shouts to you guys for listening to the community

I have a code for the closed beta. 1st one to PM me gets it.

I have it because I originally signed up before purchasing the Starter Pack on my Steam account.

My keyboard does not have a number pad so I can't change the time of day. is there a console command or something else that I can use? also I haven't been able to do three button grabs since m4 released, but is that just my keyboard too?

console command e_timeofday (followed by a number between 0-24) should work.

3 key grabs were removed because many keyboards couldn't handle them. We highly recommend playing the game with a gamepad - they're made for gaming and give you more controls than that available on keyboard.

I can't play anymore with my GTX 260.. The game has always told me that my graphics card isn't supported and I've played without a problem so far. The game won't open anymore, just gives me a error. I guess there isn't going to be any changes to that?

i do genuinely feel kind of bad for those whose computers cant run this game at all, because it is absolutely amazing with a gtx780 and gtx560ti hahaha 80fps maxed out...

So this jsut started for me on like Saturday but anytime I try to open the game it's giving me a CryEngine Error- can't find keyboard guide???? Help

So I have to start off by saying that even know I dont like/agree with everything in this game, I still love it!! If I didnt like itor if I didn't see it's potential, then I wouldn't even bother making posts about it.

With that being said, Im going to avoid the micro transaction topic and focus my constructive criticism on the in air physics. To start off i am sitting at my computer playing snow as i am typing this on my phone. Im going off the jumps in the lo2 park and focusing on the trick naming. I did a cork 520 according to the game, but when i go in replay mode i actually did a double cork 720. Then on the next jump the game said i did a cork 10, when i actually did a double or maybe triple cork 1260. ( I practically landed sideways explaining the dub or trip confusion). So my point is that the trick and the naming system arent working perfectly. Also i think that you should be able to tweak your rotation so that you can do a dub cork 10 or just a cork 10. Right now the only rotation that looks like it does in real life is a cork 3 (which the game only calls a 360). Im know you guys are probably working on this already so thanks and keep up the progress!

Just a little feedback after a good 10h on the latest beta version:

YES. yes, yes yes and Yes. For real, most of the little things I criticized in my last feedback are fixed, and the beta really feels like an already complete game (i know it's not, but the absence of bugs makes it feel sooo good). Loving the events, although I think in time trial, you can cheat by not going through all the checkpoints and it still counts.

i dont wanna make this long, so i wont say all that i think is absolutely awesome (importantly now doe, i can play in much better res and qual, fucking stoked) so here are just the few points that imo should be next in line from a player point of view: rails (still feel very akward, unatural, maybe they should slide faster?), air time (while im fine with the way it works right now, i think its really not that realistic, ie the character spends too much time in the air, maybe players should be able to tweak that??), last point is the store (first i think the old store looked much better, but more important i think events should give out a little credit when a medal is awarded. Maybe have 2 different currencies, one with high prices on everything so that u have to win a lot of gold medals, the other with lower prices that you can buy with real money. Right now prices are a bit high imo, i spent 20€ and didnt have enough cred to buy one of each gear item (bindings poles and gloves). Im still stoked to be helping the devs with $ doe so thats cool. In the future, maybe players could be able to host events; and to give prizes like skis or creds that they have/purchased? That would be dooope. The multiplayer has soo much potential, even in game sponsorship who knows from other players xD and be able to film people with your drone omg so much potential xD) keep at it guys, this game is now beyond awesome

Oh and maaajor points too, prespinning!!!! We need lincoln prespin and have it be shift instead of just holding space down so that it keeps spinning fast afterwards and make bytter another key. It would make such a big difference

Great work guys, really loving the recent improvements!

A couple things I think could be improved:

Speed scrubs! Every time I hold slow down and turn for more than half a second I spin out and end up going out of control. This makes some of the chutes and stuff really difficult.

Not a major issue, but I think you could cut down on some of the menu animations as it gets a bit slow sometimes, ie scrolling in the shop or at the end of a contest

Contests are awesome! I am at lv25 and I really love this new aspect of the game. Are the free items meant to be awarded every 5 levels? Also is the levelling scaled? Because I seem to be getting less and less xp for gold medals. Finally, I think there should be a bonus for destroying the gold level requirement, is getting 5000 points when gild is 2000, just to make an incentive for people to get reeeally good at events.

Keep it up guys! The game is really starting to shape up.

I play on a bootcamped Mac, and have to run it on 800x600 to make it have any framerate, could you please add an option to reroute everything to just game play? Like get rid of effects and blur etc. For highest speed on bad processors.

Also, no idea how to get cash besides buying with real money. Could you add a scoreboard or something that tells the player the points they need to earn anything. Maybe even generate NPC scores to compete with or something.

People always complain about the rail mechanics on this game, but I think that it's close to perfect. It is obviously quite jerky and not that great at times, but that's why it makes this game so much better (and harder). It just requires a lot more skills than skate, simply because everything is on manual. Nothing automated.

I signed up for the closed beta on January 24 and still have not received an access code. Is this normal?

Also any estimate on when I will be receiving the access code?

Bump

I'd just buy the game but I don't want to support people that support microtransactions

Well buy the game but don't buy anything in game? Yes there are micro transaction but when buying them you are supporting the development of the game because all the money goes to the developers and from what I understand, it's not like they give you an advantage over other player.

Waiting until my uni work dies down and then if I haven't received an invite I probably will

Haven't herd anything from the developers recently, is there anything in particular you guys are working on right now? And also whats the progress with the B&E map?

I mean they said the map was almost done at the time of the event so i wonder if they're going to start making us pay for maps/levels too

That's my fault, sorry - have been really bad at replying to posts on NS and other social channels. Will try be a little more responsive :)

Anyway - if you haven't received your key yet, don't worry. We haven't sent all the invites out yet, in fact we haven't sent out even half. We're slowing down with the number of invites we're sending out until we release the next update (which will be a major one, 0.6.0) at the end of June. We're working on a bunch of cool things (features + new areas/levels) and will share more info about this update early next week.
