Slandis on Oakley!

It still amazes me how Landis is able to draw so much attention to himself on NS.

3 full pages of comments about how picked up a goggle sponsor. He must be doing something right to get this much exposure everytime he makes a post.

If I could sponsor him I would...

Plus, he is a cute little eskimo who probably has a pet sea lion or something? That's worth a sponsorship too in my book.

work/riding. A rare human. I have a lot of respect for that. His sponsors are a

testament to that.

I can't believe this site sometimes. Props Slandis, hope you go far and there's always gonna be haters. The majority of them hate cause they aren't getting all the sponsors they feel like they should be getting. It's ridiculous listening to some kids. "oh how did he get sponsored, I'm way better than him that kid can't do anything" and 95% of the time it's total bullshit
 
yo guys, just because landis gets noticed for having sponsorships that he doesn't deserve doesn't make the kid more sponsor-worthy. he's notorious for being more sponsored than skilled at skiing... and that's not a good thing, it just makes him look bad. that's why I would turn down these high level sponsorships if i were him, because it sucks to be not as good as skiing as people expect you to be. I'd much much rather be sick at skiing and unsponsored, cause that way i'd be better than people expected me to be, which is a good thing. i mean no offense to slandis, but i've never seen the kid 7.

and i'm not saying this cause i'm jealous that i'm not sponsored, i'm saying this cause there are a shitload of kids i know that slay park really hard, and would slay BC really hard if they had access to it, but they don't get shit cause they're just one of a million really talented kids out on the east coast.

again, no offense to slandis, but i know easily 50 kids on the ec that can rip a lot harder, but they don't have the video skills or window of exposure that slandis has, and so noone even knows who they are, which shows that if skiing promotional relationships is what you're looking for, your skiing is not the most important thing ironically.

if he didnt deserve a sponsorship then why would he be getting them? how can you base his skills off of little edits? thats ridiculous... he isnt just another talented kid doing the same shit as a million other people(not just one the east coast). hes ahhhhhbviously far more marketable then all the others. just have patience, their time will come.
 
Dude Landis has so much talent and you would see that if you rode with him for a day. Kid slays and brings so much more to the table, not just the "cookie cuter" version of skiing that most kids offer.

 
Sponsorship isn't about talent, it's about promoting a product. I don't think Oakley really cares if you know kids that shred harder- the fact that they know about Slandis and they don't know about your friends who slay hard probably says something about Slandis' ability to promote a product.

Plus, I like his edits.

wow. all you guys are acting like the kid who didnt get into harvard when his best friend did. sure, you may have been validictorian, got a 1600 sat, and a 36 on your ACT. guess what? there are hundreds of kids just like you, with the exact same grades, scores, and padded resume. on the other hand, the kid who did get in had solid grades and scores, but actually has somethng to give to the school, be it sports, art, acting, what have you.

the latter is landis. sure, he doesn't win the us open every year, and maybe he cant do a perfect cork 12 or whatever. but what makes him such a great athlete to have on your team is the other stuff he brings to the table. he is a creative and technically sound filmer, he is a great skiier, and most importatly, has exposure. this exposure, combined with his well-roundedness, makes him a valuable asset to any company.

landis will help his sponsors more than the clones who throw immaculate 10s because he is more than just tricks. just think how much more landis will do for the company than just about anyone else in the business.

and as for the 50 ec kids that you know are better, who are they? oh wait, we dont know, because they all do the same thing over and over again. what else do they bring to the table?

Landis, congrats man, you deserve it, and i know you will earn your pay, as it were, 100 times over for your sponsors.

Spot on. The ironic thing is that this thread is a testament of his exposure. The fact that it has become 3 pages of jealous kids bitching about how he isn't as good as they are proves that he is indeed worthy of sponsorship.

And besides, I don't think Oakley needs another extremely talented skier to add to their team. They need people that can CONNECT (Landis, a teenager on NS) to the PRIME MARKET (teenagers on NS). You people bashing him have no concept of business.

Who are you more likely to talk to in person? Tanner? JP? Pep? Shaun White? Nope. It's Landis. From Oakley's point of view, Landis could potentially boost their sales, and that is what sponsorship is all about.
 
the even bigger irony is that by perpetuating this thread with their hate, people are getting landis even more exposure. notoriety sells, and oakley is going to be making some money off this kid, no question.
 
just because kids on ns know who you are doesn't mean you have good exposure. you kids sucking his dick are as bad as the rest talking shit, all i've seen from this kid is that one promo with the goofy voice overs and stars claiming first hit or unnatural, and to be honest i didn't think it was that cool. i guess a lot of you did though, and props to him for that. but the difference between all the unknown kids who kill it and landis is the fact that he's on newschoolers putting up videos, whereas the other kids are just skiing. i feel like they would create way more stoke, since the local kids killing it gets the attention of everyone in the area, which would create more exposure i'd think...

but hey, him getting free goggles doesn't affect me one bit so this is pointless! or is it?

landis is not only an extemely talented skier but also an artist. i like to think of our sport as an art, with different styles and canvasses to express ourselves with which we can express ourselves. just because he can't switch10 and prestzel all over your favorite canvass doesn't make him any worse of a skier.

you need to shut you fuckin mouth right now.... first off have you ever skied with landis? second do you know him in any way besides his edits? third did you ever consider that your a dooosh? landis tanaka is a talented skier as well as a video guy and NSers love his stuff (me included) so those togeather make for a good reason to sponser someone, sponsering isnt about skiiing, its about selling a product, so since lots of people like landis and many emulate his style/attire then thele buy what thay see there "idol" wearing, no one quote me but im pretty sure it says in bible that your not supposed to hate on an NSer until youv met and them gotten to know them.
 
All I can say is congrats Slandis! You have made some of my favorite edits that I have ever seen and you are progressing our sport and doing things for the sport that other people aren't. Your promo was awesome and so much different than just watching straight skiing. I loved the idea. All of the haters go hate somewhere else. There's no need to hate on a kid whose trying to progress our already small sport!

People need to realise that being sponsored or not isn't solely based on whats in someones bag of tricks.

It's about how much value can be created for the company.

Landis is a PR machine which is what companies look for.

If I was a company like Oakley looking to give out a new sponsorship i'd be looking at someone that would rep my product well, talk about it to kids, and overall communicate some stoke.

Not some young punk thinking he's hot shit. Just because someone can throw a 10 doesn't mean they should be sponsored.

Congrats Landis, the last promo you put out was really well done. Keen for the next.

Oakley is a company, filled with professionals (not talking about pro skiers, but professional industry types) who are trained and educated likely with post secondary degrees in business and run a very successful company. They think he's worth being sponsored. And you are who?
I'm going to respect that decision, even though my opinion doesn't matter.

Who are skiers becoming? I thought this was a community, full of people who care enough about skiing to actually get stoked when another skier gets an accomplishment. Maybe the haters shouldn't be on this site, because clearly they don't care enough about skiing's community to be decent to other skiers.

This hate better be immature jealousy and mood swings due to lack of snow, or some dumb alias trying to make some jokes and stir up some contraversy, otherwise it means that skiing (or this site anyways) is filling up with a bunch of completely indecent assholes.
