Seriously, if he doesn't win something I am going to just give up on music. Halocene is just unreal and guh, I will have a meltdown.
 
skrillex is just the most popular dubstep artist, he is like bobby brown is for skiing. i mean at least its out there and getting noticed. id rather him then some other shitty pop artist

and Kanye West!!! MBDTF was a crazy good album and they took it out of the running for greatest album of the year.
 
Play a skrillex song at 128 and 140 and tell me which one sounds more like dubstep. Any song you choose, tempo is one of the loftier concepts to computer musicians. It's one of the first things you decide when you start to "make" a song.
 
guys music is comprised of 4 elements: Pitch, rhythm, dynamics, and timbre.

and even as someone who kind of despises him, he is definitely the breakout artist of the year. to go from an absolute zero following to being as big as he is is astounding.

Oh yea, just like how Arcade Fire won best new album and people were pissed. "How can The Suburbs beat out Katy Perry and her new album, The album Arcade Fire is terrible". Nobody knows good music anymore. Everything is so fucking commercialized these days. There are so many new artists out there that deserve a spot on that list, not a lousy dub step producer.
 
when he was in FFTL they weren't even headlining a warped tour stage, so I'd say thats, in the grand scale of things, a zero following.
 
It's music, it's an impossible argument. Everyone will q their opinion on music. I live some good electronic music, there is tons of stuff out there that I'll classify under "Dubstep", because the genre is so broad. I just don't like Skrillex, more Brostep now. That's my opinion, deal with it.
 
Why does it have to be out there and getting noticed? It doesn't have to be mainstream to be a success. In fact the dubstep scene was fantastic before it gained attention. What annoys me the most is the one guy whos music was used as the face for mainstream dubstep is giving the entire genre such a shitty name. His music is NOTHING what dubstep is really about. I wish people would stop taking things for face value and actually dig a bit deeper. They would soon realize how much of a joke skrillex is.

/Fuck you whoever says dubstep is music/a form of expression. Dubstep is industrial music. It is made for clubs and shows. It does not tell a story, provide any insight into social or personal issues, and does not evoke any strong emotion. It also takes no talent to produce, and requires no knowledge of music.

Saying dubstep is music is on par with saying Yoko Ono was a genius.

You keep saying this, but you never explain exactly what dubstep IS about. I'm not even a huge fan of Skrillex, but your arguments are very lacking. What the fuck is "brostep"? Is that just the new popular term for mainstream dubstep? Skrillex sounds exactly like most of the dubstep I've heard. Guess I just don't have the right ear for dubstep, huh?
 
Minimal, sub bass orientated, head nodding tunes. It's not about glowsticks, or sex, or thrashing around like you're having a seizure whilst on molly. Brostep is just a pissing contest of ratty mid range bass and noise in general. It defies the basic principles of dubstep. Yeah you could say that, considering most if not all mainstream dubstep these days follows those guidelines.

Im sick of people complaining about dubstep. When Rock n Roll started it too was just "noise" and was all "the same." get your heads out of your ass, if you dont like it dont listen to it. but clearly with an genre as large and popular as dubstep it is clearly music.
 
Looks a bit less ridiculous when you see him in concert, if I dropped beats like he does on a regular basis I'd probably go a bit insane too

Skrillex is kind of the face of dubstep in the fact that everyone who has heard of dubstep pretty much knows skrillex, and dupstep pretty much had a breakout this year with him being at the head of it
