Skis too slippery?

This may sound like a stupid question but i recently switched from Snowboarding to skiing and i rented twin tips for this year. The thing is, I went skiing a week ago and in line i was slipping back because i gues, they were really slippery. I guess this is normal but is there any way i can reduce how slippery it is? Im sorry this is a noobie question but i just dont know what to do. Thanks +k for help

Haha interesting, but I know what your saying. I recently got new skis like brand new just mounted and everything. Im used to skiing old anthems that are so sticky all the time, bases destroyed edges falling off, and I got on these new anthems and I was like holy shit these are soooo slippery, like I couldn't even not move. But as for you, just wear them while walking to your car after skiing and that should be good (as in shuffle across pavement).

Well that is some really bad advice. Disregard this comment.

Just get used to it. I regularly have to switch from snowflex (not slippery) to snow, and have to readjust. It just takes time.

Take a knife and carve hirizontal lines in the base of your skis. This will help increase traction, like treads on a tire.

hahahaha you mean the snowboard you rode for 5 years and probably did wax once stuck to the snow a little? and now having feet separated and freshly waxed skis feels different?

you don't say...

first your going to want to eat an eggo, Then take a hacksaw and cut the skis up into little bits, next put those bits in the microwave and put it on high for 7 hours (don't worry about the sparks coming off from the edges, thats normal) once they're nice and soft put them into a clay mould that you can purchase at your local Walmart. Wait about 1 year for the mold to set. (if you want to ski them sooner just use your family time machine) the newly made skis should be a little less slippery than you original ones. if they're not just drill holes in them with a rubber spoon, that always works for me. A little urine never hurts either. Good luck, remember to follow my directions exactly as I said.

It's called wax and having a clean base structure. Believe it or not, this is how skis are supposed to feel. I know, crazy right? During this unsettling time of good performance, I'd suggest using your edges- you know, the hard part to the sides of the ski you probably filed off seconds after unwrapping them? Yeah those things. They stop you, like, all the time and I con't confirm it but i feel like now would be okay too. Also most people have these things called poles that they hold in their hand. You can use them to push yourself around if need be. Crazy talk, I know.

Thanks for the chuckles. Have a happy holiday OP. Enjoy the new skis.

Yeah new skis are really bad, you need to break them in. Make sure to travel across the pavement forwards, not sideways, this way your bases will still work when skiing forward and you won't slide around like crazy

Instead of wax, smear peanut butter all over the bases, I suggest Skippy Extra Crunchy, since the little peanut chunks provide extra traction, and boom, no more slippery skis. Plus it's a conversation starter.

yo bro! just do the oppsite pizza in line that way ur edges grab the snow if ur sliding backward pizza backward! I aswell ride my skis across the road when i first get em gotta tyhrashem in

Just take your skis off and carry them over your shoulder on the lift.

Or wear skins 100% of the time.

Or the peanut butter thing.

Remount your bindings on the base of your skis. It creates an awesome camber profile and the sturdy four points of contact are sure no to slip on a gentle incline.

This is a really bad idea you will destroy your bases. One time though i had been skiing all day and night and it was 11 and I was tired as fuck and I got kicked of the mountain. It was like -10 degrees out so I just skied across the parking lot to my car. (there was a little snow, but i know i went over some rocks.)

well the obvious anwser is PIZZA vs. FRECH FRY

if you dont want to move just pizza for sliding backwards do this piiza V and for sliding forwards do this ^ pizza

not gunna lie , that cracked me up. haha, like treads on a tire haha , oh lordy. good luck op ! you get used to skiing fast. shit you talking bout just normal ski , lift line stuff. on another note, i need to wax my skis, feels like i have fucking skins on every time i click in, ha that means time for my lazy ass to wax ... i hate waxing, but im glad my girlfriend likes to keep herself nice and waxed ;) enjoy skiing OP ! wise switch !

oh you should get skins and just leave them on. And then you should get an extra helmet cause u need to protect that big ass brain of yours.

If you find this an issue just ski through some grass and dirt and it will be fine.

I honestly don't like when my skis have perfect bases, I like to have some traction in lift lines and stuff. Just don't overdo it

get a really sharp chizzle and chizzle horizontal lines every 5cm from edge to edge, but make sure you get down to the core of the ski. it worked great on my skis.

See, those idiots at the shop probably used the wrong type of wax. You see they probably used ski wax which isn't really used for skiing on snow but for water skiing. What you want to do is get some surfing wax and just rub it right on there. Surfing wax is short for Surfing over snow wax so really it is for skis. Now if this doesn't work use your parents iron and melt the surf wax on. To really get it in there let the iron sit on the bases for about 5 minutes per section. It also helps to rub dirt in there. Hope this works.

haha just what I thought..."yea just uhhh belt sand them down to core, but make sure it's nice and even. That should do the trick"
