Skiing's Really Lame Now

I'm gonna keep this short and sweet, but the passion's gone. I no longer find myself sleepless the night before a day of skiing. I've been turned off by all the senseless bullshit in this sport. I don't care what you say, the olympics are fucking lame. And you know what's even lamer? People like Henrik who claim to be real core to the sport, but are in Sochi right now promoting everything people like me stand against. That's fucking lame. And that's just one example.

What happened to skiing, man?

 
Nah, you're a bitch if you support anything detrimental to this sport. What happened to dope edits? All I see is the same camera, same editing, same tricks, same outerwear. What happened to creativity?

This shit is stupid.
 
Sounds like your problem, because I'm pretty sure all those guys are having a lot of fun right now. It's freeskiing, do whatever the fuck you want to do and don't worry about what others are doing.
 
What the fuck do you care about those guys for. Free skiing is an individual sport. You can do whatever the fuck you want. And if you dont like going skiing anymore than that means YOU dont like the sport anymore not that henrik harlaut or whoever else is in the olympics. You cant say "I dont like to ski anymore because some guy in the olympics did a triple cork." Fucking bullshit man.

I don't understand how you can sit back and let this sport be taken to its knees.
 
Nothing happened, for some stupid fucking reason you let the state of our sport affect how much you enjoy skiing. I don't even understand, like are you on the hill thinking "oh ma gawd Henriks a total sell out all these guys in the park probably love him uuhhhh fuck skiing"?
 
Just cuz someone else wants to do triples or techy flips or whatever you wanna call em doesnt mean that you cant continue doing butters and slow 180s and afterbangin the shit out of em
 
I ski because it's hella fun, and one of the only ways I can forget about the rest of the world and just have a good time with my best buds.

This guy is right. Fuck the olympics and all of that stupid ass shit. Skiing is just ment to make people happy. I have more fun just carving and listening to CCR than any of the olympians. Dont fucking tell me that you think that the olympics are going to positively effect our sport. They wont and they havent. How is Freeskiing difined? It cant be think about it. Pow, park, pipe, anything creative with skis on your feet. Not just one other time slot on NBC. Fuck all of this shit.

Also what the fuck are you talking about having more fun than Olympians? Jossi looked like he was having a good time, everyone else for that matter.
 
Why don't you stop being an emo bitch and just ski? You are you're own problem. Why do you have to be so wrapped up in all the other aspects that have absolutely zero to do with YOU sliding on snow.
 
I think that right now the ownice is on the 'other' side of our sport to step it up. Step up the creativity... go out and hit something awesome. Go help make a wicked edit, and go write some news articles.

Newschoolers is a completely open platform, and right now the competition scene is producing and sharing the most interesting content. Go fuck with that. You can write - write something!

We as a community can completely change the course of skiing, but we won't be able to do it only by complaining. You must be the change vs. asking for the change.

 
I dont understand how so many people are throwing bitch fits about the Olympics. Just go do what you do. Ski for yourself. Last time I checked I can still go skiing any second of the day I want anywhere around the world, funds allowing, in the BC, in the park, on the groomers, in the streets, indoor snowparks, my backyard, snowflex, city parks. Oh yeah, and I can wear whatever the fuck I want, listen to whatever music I want, use whatever skis I want, and have whatever steeZe I want.

Quit being a bitch OP. it's FREEskiing.

Honestly, can people stop bitching about the Olympics? It seems reminiscent of... oh... every fucking major ski event in the past decade. Always bitches. Whether it is the judging, the tricks, the style, the athletes, the future spins. You name it.

And hey, how the fuck does this affect you? Oh, now a few more people have a different perspective on skiing that you couldn't shape? That doesn't line up 100% of what you think skiing is supposed to be? News flash: nobody gives a fuck about you or your opinion. People aren't going to look at you, be it on the mountain or at school, and say "Hey, this kid must be super cool because I saw skiing in the Olympics" or visa versa.

I don't really recognize skiing as a sport so I'm not entirely sure what you're complaining about. I'm surprised that it has become this popular.

If you have the means to go skiing, do it. If you don't want to ski, find another hobby.
 
I couldn't imagine not being excited for a day of skiing (unless I was hurt, or it super sucked). What's going on in the olympics or outside of yourself shouldn't matter. If you love skiing, youll be excited to ski no matter what. You are either exaggerating or you allowed this shit to bother you so much that you dont love skiing as much.
 
the olympics dont mean anything to me when i ski. i ski because i like to get out there, ski the woods and high five my buddies and cheers to the day we just had over a pint. just because a handful of people are into the comp scene doesnt change any of that for the 99% of us. quit bitching about the 1% segment of our sport that gets more people involved and go ski!
 
Ahhh..."trends", that is your problem. Sliding on snow is timeless though. Just do that. Fuck the rest.
 
You're really promoting the news article thing, I'm not saying that it's bad I have just seen multiple threads with you trying ton convince people to write.

I'm really sorry for you, OP, that you're not as excited to go skiing as you used to, but I think it's really weird to blame the olympics for that. The joy I get from skiing hasn't changed a bit since the olympics or the world cup or any of the other commercialization (main-streamifization?) that has happened in skiing. Go out and freeski man.
 
I may of course be completely wrong, but whenever I see a thread like this my first thought is:

"Here's another 'veteran' whose skiing hasn't progressed in the last few years and now he's pissed because he's not getting as many props for his 540s as he used to. Instead of trying more tech tricks (or deciding not to give a fuck and just have fun doing his own thing, as he should) he decides to start complaining about how today's 'sellout' pros are 'doing it wrong' and that they aren't as 'core' as he is and how that's ruining a sport that should literally be about everyone getting to do what they like on skis. He then goes on NS and posts an angry thread along the lines of #fuck_the_olympics to make himself feel better about his own skiing.

As I said, I may be completely wrong. But I have my suspicions...
 
Yes I most certainly have. We created an open news program so that people could tell the awesome underground stories - and get paid for it. Danderson specifically was getting paid for his content last year, and also got some stuff in the Yearbook.

ANYONE can be the change by creating awesome content. We'll promote it, we'll pay them and we'll push it into the Yearbook - but only if its good enough on its own.

Newschoolers is all about being the change. I'm just sick of people complaining and not doing anything about it.

I think you need to get offline, lay down, think about what your typing, then come back in 5 days or so when you figure things out.
 
I love to ski. It is one of the most fun things to do and the olympics nor any other event will ever make me love it any less.
 
Skiing is an individual sport, it is to you what you make of it. If you aren't stoked about it that has nothing to do with what others are doing and everything to do with you. I go out everyday with my friends and just shred the rails and the jumps because its what we love doing, and to us freeskiing is all about having fun, chilling with friends, and trying to progress. To someone in the olympics skiing is probably these things as well as a job. Don't hate on other people for doing their thing, just do yours. I'm sick and tired of hearing all these "fuck the olympics" threads talking about how its going to screw over our sport, when in reality it will have no effect at all on all us guys who just go out and ski because skiing is fucking sick. If you aren't stoked then stop skiing.
 
Just don't ski for like a week or two. Then go back up on a powder day and ski some pow. This reminds me of that snickers commercial. "Ski some pow Jim. You get bitchy when you don't"

But in all honesty everyone loves a good pow day. It'll make you excited to ski again. :) but if that doesn't fix you, you're fucked.
