Skiing with twin tips/freestyle skiing is getting too big.

i see soooooooooo many kids everywhere with twin tips just cruising around. i think like every other kid i see has twins. i feel freestyle skiing, even if the kids/whoever aren't actually "freestyle skiing", is getting too big.

yea, everywhere but at my school, the ratio of boarders to skiers is about 10 to 1, and i hope it stays that way

Yes, its becoming a trend, everytime i go to my local hill i see kids with twintips....about 90% of them just cruise through the park, hitting no jumps, rails, or even skiing switch. They never attempt anything, and think they're hot shit while racing through the park with twintips. I actually got called a fag by them the other day when i was hitting a little 5 ft knoll on our hill. Yes its becoming a popularity contest, but if their dumping money into the industry, let them do it. Most of them are gaper kids anyway who think their hot shit because they have twintips.

nah im like the only skier at my school and wouldnt mind some others so i could talk to other skiers at school.I have a bunch of friends outside of school who ski but i wouldnt mind some other kids around who ski.

yeah, well theres about 10 skiers, some are decent newschoolers, but there not that into it, like not on ns

at my old school a ton of people thought they were hot shit because they could huck a 10 foot cliff. They all had volkl gotamas or solomon guns and most of them couldn't do a 360. It was kind of annoying seeing them and all the other high schools come up on the ski bus and crowd up the mountain...all of them with expensive skis they couldn't even use properly.

I still have yet to see what's up at the new school. There are a few skiers and one or two are pretty good from what I hear.

fucking everyone has twin tips this year. i saw what must have been a 60 year old woman with freestyle skis the other day. needless to say she was a pussy and wasnt hitting anything. i remember when twin tips were a close knit group and people who had them were automatically friends just because no one else had them

So why didnt you make freinds with the old ass lady and show her how to rip some sweet jumps!

2 tipped sticks are better for everyone, they are easier to initiate a turn on and lighter and more stabler than a regular ski... finally shops and salespeople are pushing twintips to the average joe for those reasons, that is why youre seeing more twintips on all the teds out there.

More people buying twin tips = more money in the industry = better products. Its a good thing boy.

i would never ever EVER! think that skiing on twin tips would be for people who dont ski park or are under the age of 19

what has the world come to

I've been skiing twins for years but just started riding park this season. Twins are a shitload of fun even if you don't ride the park you know.

On another note, I've noticed that whenever I run into somebody skiing twins on the actually difficult parts of the mountain they're always damn good overall skiers.

everyone has to start at some point. the reason i bought twins was because they looked cool with a tip on the back. i got into it and got good but i still started because of the look. now twins are widely accessable and are made in kids skis, so thats why you see so much. its just a matter of time before the kids who dont do anything start trying things. id really like it to stay a smaller sport tho. im not really into everyone having twins.

I agree with that, but i kind of contributed to that by getting my little sister on twin tips and my dad. But theres a lot of rich new jersey kids who buy expensive skies and use them twice a year. Freestyle is kind of getting played, but isn't everything.

In my entire school, I'm the ONLY kid who owns a pair of twin tips. At my hill, I am 1 of 7 kids who own twins, and 1 of 4 which actually hit the park.

I would love skiing to get bigger here. In competitions, I'm always stuck competing against snowboarders, which isnt cool at all.

yeah there is unfortunately a tradeoff between being a 'core' industry, and the amount of money that goes into it.

this can only be a good thing.

just because kids have twin tips doesnt mean they have to slay park.

twin tips are better overall skis then straight ones.

can you really diss kids for wanting a better ski?

my dad has STLs and a full orage set up. Hate on him if you want but he can ski. Hes trying to learn rails now too. Hes 51...

^^that's fuckin dope!! I wish my dad even respected newschool skiing. He has tried to minimized the days that I get to go skiing because I don't do "real skiing". He didn't even let me get a season pass this year and I am only gonna get to go maybe 15 days this year.

I agree to an extent i dont like it when you see kids just skiing the groomers all day with thier marmot coats and their ski bibs kids on twin sould be trying to challenge them selves via off trail, powder, skiing switch not just park

who cares let twin tips eventually rub out all other skis i say... then the industry will be controlled by freestyle and maybe skiing wont have that old crusty racer fag/rich snobby family steriotype anymore...

whats all this about joe's and ted's? my neighbors name is ted, is that the ted in which you speak?

exactly what its like at my school, and yah i wish i could talk with other kids, but they don't even know what twin tips are..yah i go to an asain school

If you care that lots of people on the mountain have twin tips, the only reason I can see for it is becaue it makes you less special or something?

I've seen many rants on NS over the years that make the argument "why not just have all skis twin tipped, so if people want to experiment with riding switch, they can?". Which I agree with - unless there's a reason not to. For instance, I've heard people say big twins aren't good for moguls because they catch, and I don't really know about racing, but I'm betting twin is not ideal, etc.

Anyway, I'm all for more twins on the mountain.

Twin tips are the progression of skis. I work at a ski shop and tons of middle aged people come in buying twin tips. Its versatile, fun, and just a different experience. The more they buy, the more sponsors will give us, and the more money that will be available within the industry for comps and shit.

i saw the ULTIMATE gaper the other day, he had liek 161 ar6's, and he was wearing this yellow and black pants, that were the tightest ive EVER seen, my friend interviewed him on th elift, and its on video, fuggin hialiours. But it pissed me off taht he had tiwns

haha ya at my mountain

so many people ski

just becuase we have so many little rich white kids

but they all hit park so it isnt much of a problem here

I agree

My dad bought the seths last year, it's changed his perspective of skiing in general, he rips steeps and powder, now he finds it so much easier.

My mom had her first day on her nancy's today with a foot+ of fresh, its changed her skiing as well(she also skis as well as my dad)

well if you want to be all underground and stuff then invent something new, me personally i think if people wanna ski on twins then let them ski on twins

I like that that newschoolers and freestyle skiers are a minority in the skiing population, it makes it more interesting to be different and look at the mountain from a different perspective than all the other skiiers.

I don't think it matters that more people are buying twin tips, i guess snow sports have always had different fashion trends, twin tips are probably "in" right now. So I can see why these people would buy them. Everyone wants to look good out there.

I saw Kye Peterson over the summer killing it on the whistler glacier he was using rossi bandits. Bottom line is. It doesn't matter if everyone on the hill has twin tips newschool is about how you ride and the way you look at the mountain. Not what ski's your wearing!

i agree. i liked it better wen there werent many freeskiers and wenever you see another skier in the park you were instantly friends. now its not like that any more

yah im starting to see more of that at my mountain

but at my school theres only like a few kids on twintips....pretty much just me and my brother.......but most kids dont even know what twintips are...and im kinda glad...if people turned it into a fad at my shcool i'd be pissed

i used to be able to go up to any skier in the park andbe like, "hey youre probably on newschoolers right?" but now half the time i ask that they have no clue what im talking about

the more kids who buy twin tips the better, it only helps r and d etc. who cares if they suck, as long as you keep it real.

well park city is my home mountain, so needless to say the parks are crawling with newschoolers, and the ratio of skiers to snowboarders is pretty much 1:1. which is the way it should stay. I like having an equal amount of skiers to snowboarders, it shouldn't have to stay all underground like it has the past few years. but I will admit, I do get a little pissed when I see gapers from my school on twin tips that air off to the side of lips for rails, I think if you get the twin tips, try to push them to the limits they were created for, not groomers all day.

yeah shredward, i know what u meen, i always would assume ppl were a few years ago, and they were, now all these youngins with twin's are riding the mountian, and i would ask them and they look at me like i have 6 heads..tsk tsk tsk

who cares? it's not that big of a deal. just be confident knowing that you ride twins and are legit and laugh at the gapers.
