i after watching these clips yesterday have realized that skiing is now better in the pipe then snowboarding. now i didn't see the clip of Andy fisher(i think thats his name) winning run so i am basing this argument on the second place runs. shaun whites first hit he does a strait air(whattt)

dumont does a 540 truck to mute that is so rediculasly high out of the pipe it blew my mind. also Shaun's strait air dint come close to the same hight as dumonts. now i dont now the names of all the snowbarder spins but i still think it is impressive that shaun does back to back tens but lets not forget dumont in the ski tour did a 1260 to ally opp 1080. now the reason why i am righting this is becasue i just read the thread about skiing in the olympics. i just wanted to hear other peoples opinions and share mine. i just wish every one else would stop thinking of skiing as tight neon one peaces and start realizing what we can do. and also the sal masacusits or what ever his name is from the x games even said he never thought he would see the day that skiers where going this big in the pipe.

True story, it makes me so happy to see skiing finally gaining acceptance, we're almost there...

By the way, that quote from Royale in your sig is epic, sums him up perfectly haha.

skiers get higher and that is about it. snowboarders are still significantly more techinical in the pipe. when dumont won the ski tour he only spun one direction and did no switch tricks. its a travesty that he won

apples to oranges kid, and wsi pipe had serious tech.

cab and switch in pipe on a snowboard is alot easier than switch left/right on skis, and spinning fast on small hits on a snowboard will always be easier plain and simple.

I think its all pretty even, skiers are definitley alot more ballsy on jumps (keystone shoot only one snowboarder hit the massive channel, kids like vanular and clarke were doing rodeos and shyt on it) but rails. Skiers dont have shit on rails yet, and it doesnt seem like anyone wants them too. Kids gotta start giving credit where its due for technical rail tricks before we ever start seeing ski rails go in the right direction.

I donno about all that. First off, rails are simply easier on snowboards. Secondly, I've seen some pretty crazy shit on rails recently. Tom Wallisch, for example.

You just figured out that skiers go bigger and do more shit in the pipe than snowboarders? It's been going on for like 3 years.

The reason Shawn does a straight air first hit is because snowboarders want to see a big "standard" maneuver as part of a complete run, because they see it as being an important aspect of pipe riding.

Personally I wish that skiers appreciated big stylish standard tricks more. It kind of sucks that pipe runs have become so spin to win oriented that soon we will never see tricks like Laurent Favre's 20ft alley-oop for a first hit because it will be impossible to do well without spinnning at least 720 every single hit.

Don't get me wrong, I love the progression and think that pipe runs should include tons of technicality. However snowboarding manages to have a lot of technicality (think Shawns run with 3 different 1080s), yet still manages to include big stylish straight airs as part of the complete pipe riding package, instead of considering it a "weakness".

Skiing is better but if freestyle skiing got higher profile competitions like the Olympics, it would suck the money away from racing and FIS would never let that happen.

ok. this is pretty simple. skiiers go higher in the pipe. no contest. they can use poles, and skate into their first hit. but a big poked out method on the first hit on a board looks so stylie, and strait air grabs on skis dont look as good imo. however, you cant say that they never do big tricks on the first hit. if you had watched the us open shauns run consisted of 2 of the biggest 1080s on the first 2 hits. as for steve fishers run in the x games if thats what i think your talking about, you seriously need to watch it. he goes huge snowboard wise and its tech too.

i hate when i tell that to snowboarders and they respond "sking is eazier!, if i had skis i could 12 if i wanted" like oh my god i jsut want to knock them out i have snowboarded in the past and its not that hard to spin.

i was thinking that same thing earlier while watching the helly hansen invite edit. that would be very interesting.

Yeah I remember that from the x-games this past winter. Tanner keeping it real as usual, Dumont killing it w/ the 1260, and the whisky flip was ridiculous.

And yes, I probably did say that but I don't lie about my tricks anymore because I can't. People are here now on NS that see me ski all the time.

a 50-50 in my opinion is the only type of grind that is easier than grinding on skis. i found jibbig on skis way easier than most other types of grinds on a snowboard.

and the reason skiiers boost higher in the superpipe is because its easier to carry out speed on skis. the first time i skied in a superpipe, i was surprised by how much easier it was to carry out speed.

You can use more leg power on the tranny to push, which gives you a little more air. You are a little bit more stable since you're in a less awkward position too.

that would be interesting, if no one hated, but otherwise who wants animosity between skiers and boarders again...

It is disappointing that it isn't in the Olympics (but it got in the X-games quicker than Snowboarding did). I see no reason why there won't be Slopestyle/Pipe Skiing in the Winter Olympics within the next decade (probably less).

I don't really mind a lack of pipe but no slopestyle is rediculous. Who ever gave a shit about skier or boarder cross. faggots.

threads like this are what's wrong with skiing. you don't see 90,000 snowboarders in online forums talking about why their sport is better than skiing. if you ask me, it doesn't make one sport sicker that they have people doing 1260s in halfpipe comps. the reason snowboarding is cooler than skiing (and i say this as a skier who doesn't snowboard at all) is that for the most part, as a sport, they're not out there to be cooler than skiers - they're having fun, which is what our sport SHOULD be about. not that there's anything wrong with competing, but the competition BETWEEN skiing and snowboarding is a myth that ignorant skiers propagate. snowboarders don't care, and skiers who do make the rest of us look gay.

READ THE ABOVE POST.

one of the most intelligent things that ive read on this board. Ever.

That is why I almost always go skiing with all my boarder friends.

This is why Lame. is the best action sports movie ever.

Having fun with your friends, smoking in the trees n shit.

Way cooler than always trying to work on your 450 pretzel to 270 to 270 to 450 monkey flip.

that is not neccesarily true. all my boarder friends bitch about snowboarding being cooler and harder than skiing.you cant make a generalization about all boarders just into it to have fun. and the skiing vs. boarding feud will last forever

ok, fair enough. you're right that i overgeneralized. not ALL snowboarders are all about fun. but as a sport and culture, i would say that is much more the case in snowboarding than in skiing. just look at the movies. and i think maybe the skiing vs. boarding feud is a localized thing - some places it's more prevalent than others. i ride brighton, ut where we get along pretty well...there's not many skiers, but there's tons of sick sick sick boarders, so it teaches skiers to respect snowboarders a lot more. a few years ago, when i was back riding in new york, i was all anti-snowboarding too, i'm ashamed to say. utah changed that pretty dramatically.

but yes, i overgeneralized. of course there are snowboarders who bitch about being cooler than skiers, i just think they're the minority.

sking is cool snowboarding is cool as long as ur out there killing it some home and sking is getting wild in the pipe but it's easyer to spin on skis go on ur trampoline with skis and spin as far as u can then strap on a snow board its all physics

haha and skiers aren't out there to be cooler than snow bladers. Why aren't we constantly trying to be cooler than snow bladers? Because it's already generally accepted that skiers are cooler than snow bladers. Just as it's generally accepted that snowboarders are cooler than skiers. When snowboarding was the underground sport, they were trying to outdo skiing. Don't worry about the competition between the two sports, it'll die out as skiing inevitably gets bigger.

skiing is more better!!

and btw, skiercross is fun. but only when you dont go that fast and do ticks on the jumps and stuff

i honestly was aborder til like 3 months ago and can say skiin is way better ya we come on here but its cuz we are a COMMUNITY and i dont see that as much in boarders

also ridin with boarders isnt as much one and since i was a boarder i think i have a right to say this we have to strap in and it takes time and then its just not as cool looking really or fun cuz u end up waiting all day

and smoking in the trees good for u but the kids who r workin all day will end up gettin better and i bet they have a hell of a lot of fun doing it instead of frying fucking brains cells

my conclusion: shut up

But what if I have fun frying fucking brain cells and THEN going and skiing? Eh? Out of left field, champ, you didn't even see that one coming.
