Alright, I'm gonna post a conversation Jibtech and I had.
TheDave001: does what I'm saying make sense to you?
TheDave001: cause I've never delt with FIS
ElnegrD: yah it's a good possitive look on it. But in order to make it to the olympics the regulations are going to be based on world cup standings. So people will have to ski the world cup halfpipe events. FIS will never be able to fuck with what we have now, it just wont happen. But they sure as shit will fuck with their own little world cup bullshit. halfpipe will be super good exposure, the people that will win it, wont be the people that do the world cup circuit. it will be the people that are pro and did just what they needed to, to qualify and get in. exactly like snowboarding.
ElnegrD: and even worse than all of that. drug testing. anyone who wins, will test positive. bottom line
TheDave001: but didn't snowboarding have some like last chance qualifiers?
TheDave001: haha Jon won't
ElnegrD: yah, the US team does that. but not the canadian
ElnegrD: Jon is exposed to enough second hand that he's a pot head
TheDave001: AH that brings me to my second point
TheDave001: US has no good halfpipe riders
ElnegrD: Another problem is, (with the canadian team for sure, not absolutely sure about US) in canada you will have to be a 'canadian team member' to compete and possibly the same regulation to even compete in the world cups. meaning you'lll have to go down another level (nor ams) to get on the canadian team and ski worldcups to make olympics. So when you get on the canadian team. The only sponsors you can keep are ski sponsors and goggle sponsors. the rest is up to the organization
TheDave001: see that shit is gay
TheDave001: then canada won't have a good team if they keep the rules cause no one would put up with that bullshit
TheDave001: so maybe in that case they might change the rules?
TheDave001: dude have you seen how ben packs blunts?
ElnegrD: indeed it is. But another thing you have to understand. The CFSA (canadian freestyle skiing association) would be the people taking care of that. and I honestly cannot even explain to you what those people are like. They are the biggest fucking theives in the world. They are absolutely fine with ruining a life to make some money. it's disgusting. Another thing is, they are completely and utterly STUPID. There's obviously a possibility they would change their rules. but knowing that organization as well as I do. I'd be willing to bet that they would not be able to change it because some butt fuck would say it was unfair for those who have worked their way up through the norams. and that 'team sponsorships' are a great way to go. ya man, they are a sick way to go. If your the CEO of the organization, your rollin. The athletes will see JACK SHIT! when I was on national team, I wore three patches.
ElnegrD: each one of those patches is worth 500 000 and I didn't see a fuckin dime.
TheDave001: ya thats officaly gay
TheDave001: so the question remains then would skiers bother?
ElnegrD: and the answer is yes. Olympic gold is history forever. At the xgames your popular for one year and it's bye bye biatch. Also, xgames gold is worth in the long run 6 figures top end or bottom depending on the person. olympic gold is worth a minimum mill. MINIMUM, johnny stomped out a solid 15. Thats the reason why they get away with all of this shit. The olympics themselves are so powerful that people will end up beating the shit out of themselves for years, fr one night of glory. And truthfully being one of those olympic hopefuls, it would still be worth it no matter how much I bash it
TheDave001: ya
ElnegrD: bottom line, your right. skiing wont go to shit, BUT only if the athletes refuse to take the already restrictive rules and regulations that the CFSA and possible USSA may propose.
ElnegrD: And it WILL help, as long as the athletes care to make sure that it's all legit
TheDave001: ya thats kinda what I was thinking that the athletes would have to make a stand somwhere along the line
TheDave001: I wonder how ross powers is doing with is gold medal
ElnegrD: and they will. especially with so many athletes that have come out of FIS organized sport to this sport. They know their shit and it wont happen twice. Thats the advantage we have over snowboarding. we have the potential to put ourselves in an even better situation than they are in now.
TheDave001: ya for sure
ElnegrD: honestly, I've known this was coming for a few years. And didn't totally know where I stood. but it sorta feels like it's my duty as a former canadian athlete to make sure that shit doesn't happen again. So ya I'll still compete in it (assuming I qualify) but under the regulations that WE set.
n a demo sport, each country is allotted a number of spots based upon the registration of athletes at all levels in that sport. and then once the sport is established as full olympic status it is based on the standings of the world cup team athletes. the more top fives or whatever, the more spots that country gets.
ElnegrD: and its ALWAYS more than 4.
Having already been an athlete for canada this is how I see it. I can't really explain how much I am back in love with skiing again. I hated it on that team, but now I love every minute I can spend out on the snow.
