alright so heres the deal people, this may sound weird but my mom's really good friend's best friend named miriam is a top person on the vancouver olympic comitee (for 2010 winter olympics in vancouver/whistler). so she was telling me that they get to add a sport but they want it to be one that doesnt add a facility so i was like SKIING HALFPIPE and she thought it was a good idea. she said she would tell the board/comitee thing. im gunna try to get her email and ask her for the emails of whoever there is to convince about this. they want to add a sport that has a lot of fans, and one that is like fully visible meaning that you can see full runs (unlike something like bobsled where you could maybe see a split second). SO i think that if i get some adresses and everybody writes an email that could be something seriously cool. opinions?

well the snowboarder that won at nagano had weed traces in his blood and it was ok

No, olympic athletes have to take drug tests no matter what theres no exceptions, my god mother went to the winter olympics in 82 and 88 for skiing and now shes on the committee, you most defineatly have to pass a drug test to compete which, i dont think i could name any skiiers who could.

the real question is which skiers would want to do the olympics, i bet tanner would be way to cool in the first place. The olympics are probably way too white

forget the drugs issue, worry about that once its already an event, i mean id like to see skier halfpipe even if they all had to be drug-free

 
freeskiiing shouldnt be in the olympics. i like it how it is now: with not every little kid just grabbin a pair of twins just cause they think its the new cool thing. i mean skiing is def getting bigger but the olympics is to far. i mean look how CNN or whoever it was covered it. pretty shitty in my opinion

the ross dude who competed in japan was caught with traces of pot in him...every athlete is tested throughout the training/competing shit which is two years...no way any of the skiers who are even worthwhile pipe skiers could pull that shit off...and the guy at nagano blamed it on second hand smoke..

jman, you are wrong. one snowboarder was elimininated at the park city olympics for pot...

and the Robin williamds koje was that the only way smoking pot was a 'performance enhancer', was if there was a huge ass hershey bar at the end of the pipe....and come on...its true.

But what about all the big name snowboarders that competed in Utah and won. None of them had problems w/ drugs, and I'm sure that the snowboard community isn't all clean.

if, hypothetically, it did end up as an olympic event, anyone that would choose doing drugs (as relatively 'harmless' as weed is) over competing in the olympics needs to get their priorities straight.

 
how the fuck would drugs help in the halfpipe anyways? its not like its gonna give u extra boost out of the pipe or something. like in some sports it makes sense but fuck...sking in a halfpipe, like come on

^ you can get drugs for pretty much anything to enhance your performance at sport regardless fo waht it is. i dunno bout thisargument tho? im 50 -50 at the moment so it doesnt really bother me as to what happens.

uuh, killerskier, your wrong... maybe you'not quite sure how to ride the pipe...in the transition of the pipe, you pump, and when you do, it keeps up your speed/gives you a bit more....if you have beefier legs, thx to stereoids, you can easily pump harder, AND pop harder off the lip.

the drugs they are looking for are mainly steroids and I dont think steroids are that wide spread in skiing. Why wouldn't skiers want to go to the olympics, that would help a lot of people see that skiers can go in the pipe.

 
to side line your pot arguments for just one second, what do you think of the way an event like half pipe skiing would be run in the olympics. we;re luckey enough now not to have to go to an FIS event just to compete, and this would most defiently be bringing us back a few steps towards something just like that. a bunch of non-skiing frogs arguing over who scored the most points, what degree of grabage and tweakability. . . you get my point.

As a guy who works hard at his hill during the winter months to progress skiing away from a competitive sport, I personally dont support this direction.

 
yeah but everyone knows exactly what will happen. the media will cover it a ton cause its so 'new' and its not new at all skiers have been going off in pipe for a long time. then they'll make it sound like a show not a sport by having some dumb ass broadcaster up there saying, 'these krazy kids go up and down the pipe like snowboarders and do all sorts of flips and spins to win!' and itll just make it lame. just like snowboarding is the out of control mass produced poser sport it is. i dont know about you but i like my skiing the way it is. with still only a large group of people totally comitted.

i'd think it would be cool, and as for the snowboarders and no drug tests, they took them, but they didn't use them as means of qualification or not, because the snowboarders wouldnt take thema and get DQ. but i think it would be cool, just hope the olympic com. does it right

Just so you all know...the decision has already been made and freesking halfpipe is in the 2010 olympic games.
