heres the deal...im noticing soooooooo many people, like 90% of this board, seems to think the skiing equation is something like this:

0% Rider + 25% equipment + 25%bling + 50% jacket = good skier

and for all of you (i dont want to put a list out, but basically any of you east coast kids and all the ones out west who are too pussy to ride big mountains) who think that, let me fill you in on something. it doesnt matter what jacket your wearing or what bling you have on on whether or not you have the BRAND NEWEST skis or the fact that youre EXTREME cuz you drink ROCKSTAR....heres what you fuckin kids need to realize. this is the proper equation for skiing:

98% Rider + 2% Equpment + ZERO PERCENT JACKET

i wish i could ski big mountain lines, but i can't until i move out west. i still give it all in the park and the pipe and give 100% effort and step up my tricks every time. i don't own the most expensive clothing and i barely get enough cash just for my skis.

theyre not going to openly admit they do, but come on, 90% of the people on this site think that if you dont have a steezy, brand new jacket from orage or sessions or whatever, it actually takes away from your riding ability. they believe that having bright fucking jewelry (JEWELRY!) dangling from their necks makes them a better rider. this tanner hall shit has to stop. dressing and acting him wont make you like him. tanner got to where he is now because he worked a LOOOOOONG time (read= 10 yrs +) for it, and its his passion. these fuckers on this site think that just cuz they can dress like him and lap the park like him all day they are already as good as him. and its not that way.

 
and rich, i make exceptions for people just kiciking it and having a good imte like you. people that ride Jay Peak, i dont have a problem with any of them. theres just too many kids nowadays (i wont give any names, but BRYAN "i dont go into vails back bowls cuz theyre too steep" GALLANT[yes he actually said that]

) who think that since they can straight line from the top of the lift to the park, spin a 5, and then straightline back down to the lift, and do it all with a big poofy coat on, that theyre are the best riders ever. and that shits whats gotta stop.

 
please don't tell kids not to buy new stuff. If everyone just rode on old skis and in old clothes we would notice a very steady decline in the material goods that are associated with skiing. Unless you have your own mountain you cannot ignore the business side of skiing and how it goes hand in hand with the sport. Please kids buy new stuff, it makes you cooler, especially movies, they make you the coolest.

My weiner is probably harder than yours.
 
oh believe me, if i lived on the east coast, i would drive around to a new ski area every day and everytime i saw a poser in the park, i would mercilessly drag him/her into the woods and beat them senseless. but luckily i live out west. the only reason this gets me so fired up is because what theyre doing makes everyone else who doesnt ski think thats what everyone in freeskiing is all about. and it not, but nobody knows that because of course, as we all know, its 120% jacket and 0% rider, duh

i agree. being a skier isnt about the lfiestyle. its about goin out there EVERY single day and having fun progressing the sport and yourslef as a rider, not about talkin on these dumb sites and exposing stupid bullshit to all these people that are the ones out there to have fun and want to talk with others of their kind that jsut wanna talk it up about the skiing NOT the lifestyle and bling and all that bullshit.

i learned how to ski on the east coast and now i ski mostly big mountain in utah. Im not saying im great but you guys on the east coast dont have to just ski the park, go out, ski the trees, get creativer, you know, i guess yeti is sayin u guys are all parkrats, i agree with somethings hes saying but not all, skiing isnt about hitting the park, its about going out and skiing and not giving a shit what ur wearing or wut ur skis are, its about having fun and prgressing the sport, if you wanna progress it in the park, then step it up,stop talking and go fuckin ski.

look here douch bag, why would anyone here ski if they couldn't. Of course it takes skill to be a good skier. Im sure some people have nice gear and shit and can't ski but not 90% of us. Just look in the media and all the video's , most of those videos are NS's own skiers who are fucking dope, soo don't just post that were all posers becuase where not, and even if some of us are we still know that it takes skill to become a good skier.

a lot of these guys that live out west are originally from the east. there are tons of east coast transplants in colorado, utah, and cali. i'm just speaking up for this group of riders because i know that there is a lot more to do out east than ride park - it's part of the sport and i'm not saying everyone back east are parkrats, but your transition from EC hills to big mountains will be 100x easier and more fun if you learn how to ride ice and tight trees, not just 40 foot tables.

We all know (well I hope) that skiing is a rich ass sport. So ski for yourself don't bother about the other except if they talkshit on you or something.

I mean it's not because you got all the sickest gear and that you 180 that you are a poser, maybie he's dedicated just as you to the sport he just has less skills, skills doesn't mean if you are a poser or not some people just has less talent.it's not the cloths, the skis, or anything like that. it's your dedication to the sport that shows if you're a poser or not.

EVERYone that was posting in that had new Oakley shit and Armada skis it seemed like, and you guys show it off like you have to prove how core you are. It's like what kind of skis and clothes you have dictates what kind of skier you are. That thread made me sick reading it.

You know what? Because up until 2 years ago I was still skiing on the yellow 1080s from '99-00. I just got myself a new pair of 03 silver 1080s. Yep that's right people, I ride an old pair of 1080s still. Guess what? When I still ride my yellow 1080s (I still do some days because I like their feel) kids in the park look at my like I'm a dumbass. Even when they can't slide a 10ft rail or do a 360, they look down on me. When I throw a 720 with a grab and they do a 180 with a boot touch grab, they laugh at me. You know what? I've always been amused by you guys that spend all this money on new gear every year, and I still am. Its not what you own, its how you ride it

id like to be proud to say im not on that list even though im from the east coast. im using last years 1260's(first skis ive ever got new) renting boots, have poles that are way too small to use from many years ago. hopefully getting a coat from an army surplus store for 50 bucks, at least 7 year old scott goggles(which were the cause of me getting six stitches 2 years ago because the cushoning is going away), a 2 year old giro helmet, gloves i got for christmas last year, and snowpants i bought from someone off here a year ago, which probably don't fit anymore, but im still using them.

I want people to look at our sport and say "man those guys are cool" and not "man those guys are all posers". dude that isn't true at all and you need to stop hating on the east, many east coast skiers are some of the best from skiing on ice, I grew up on maine and if we were lucky you would get maybe a month were there wasn't ice, and you know what I am confident that I could rip harder in the backcountry than someone from the west coast, you know why cause I would have to adapt and those adaptations would help me in good snow.

for the record, I ski in the east. Maine is actually about as east as it gets here in the US. And, for the record, I don't know what kind of coat or pants I own. I can tell you about my ski's and boots, because frankly, I researched them and tried them before buying, but that's just being a smart shopper. I got my coat 3 years ago at a Joe Jones, and it is not poofy. All I know is that it is red and gray. And my pants I got at EMS on sale for 22 bucks. And yes I do give skiing an effort. And YES, goddammit there are a lot of poser skiers out there who buy the most expensive shit and think they're good, but that's not just the east coast. Actually, that's what american society is, and it's not going to change soon, because people (yes, you too) like to be respected in society, and they try to do that though material items. And yes, I can ski.

my first name is richard so i just shortened it for my newschoolers name. Yes i will be buying new skis this year but that will it. it's all i need. i've had my jacket for 4 years and it's still fine, even though i ski 4-5 times a week.
