Skiers you've lost RESPECT for

All of us have skiers which we idolise and aspire to be.

But lets talk about the opposite.

For me the main skier is Gus Kenworthy.

One hand he is an amazing skier and has had the courage of coming out. That must be something very difficult to do, especially after he said he struggled with it during his childhood, with a very masculine sided view in skiing.

However, to me he also seems to be using it as a CONSTANT marketing point. It this regard I have lost a little respect. He no doubt still slays, but still.

I mean in the end, he is trying to make a living. And I so suppose it would help him. But similar to Shaun White, is he really doing what he does for the sport? Or trying really to capitalise off the moment? Or are his sponsors expecting him to and that he doesn't have a choice?

So whilst I do feel he should be applauded for coming out to the public, I feel that sometimes it can be too excessive. Perhaps I don't understand or know the full story. Just my 2 cents

So NS, are there any skiers who you have lost respect for? Thoughts?

Bdog and magnus graner. How fucking dare they be pissed that despite garnering tons of marketing for orage through fire edits/segments and being at the top of the urban game, they're a little miffed to be dropped so suddenly just before the season starts, thereby slashing budgets for trips and severely altering how I guess they'll approach the season until they find new hookups. These monsters should be banned from skiing!

Is what I'd say if I was californiagrown.

Don't forget the part where you argue that 2+2=3

IMHO: op Gus has more balls then all of us, to come out in a world that judges every move we make, I don't think he uses it to make himself look better as a skier, but if I was a company and Gus rode for me I'd be marketing the shit out of him too,

The definition of courage must have changed. He wasn't risking his life or being brave by saying that he likes man-puss. I can tell gay people that I'm straight... Where's my praise?

um taner Hal becuz i usedd to think he wuz cool but now hes a lostr bcuz he sm0kes the dev1ls letus

i hope this is a troll

Simon Dumont has kind of gotten caught up in fame. At the Dumont Cup he made a bunch of kids race up the ski slope for some free goggles. Once the y were at the top and super far away he just dropped them. This was funny but it was also kind of dick move. Also, on his Instagram posts there are like 3-5 paragraphs on every post. I get that you take sick photos and want to share, but who writes 5 paragraphs about it on Instagram. Still a sick skier though.

I think in a sense he is. It wouldn't be easy for him to do, just put yourself in his shoes. It doesn't make him a firefighter or anything, it doesn't make him a world hero, but it took some courage to do what he felt was what had to be done and not care how other people would perceive him after

That Steve guy who trolls this site gets no respect. Dude trys so hard and is literally begging for sponsors. Why can't he just accept that he will never be in the ballers club?

Gus' life seems to have gotten really good since he came out. Idk how it can be called "bravery" when there was nothing to fear in the first place? He came out and what happened - He got a bunch of money and attention and is now like a small celebrity. Sick.

I don't think you understand, it may be easier now to come out than it was 50 years ago, but it is still extremely hard for people to do. I hear almost every single day someone say or write that's so gay... People still call people fags, So don't tell me it's easy for someone to fucking come out, my cousin is 12 and has come out, i cannot explain to you the bullying he experiences, so don't say its easy to come out. No amount of money or fame would make it easier.

Candide because he's older than me, and I've fallen off and HE JUST KEEPS GETTING BETTER! WTF

Candide is never gonna stop haha, One of the Days 4 is gonna have a quad cork over a building at the rate he is going

I'm also gunna say Simon Dumont. (Sorry guys, this is just an opinion) I feel like every move he makes is geared towards marketing and not skiing. When is the last time he really even did anything for skiing? He got big; milked it for a few years and disappeared. Then you see guys like t hall that got big milked it and still give back to the community.

Someone explain to me what makes it so courageous/brave/hard to come out as gay in the skiing community? I Honestly can't think of a more laid back, "don't give a shit" group of people.

How does this have so many upvotes? C'mon NS.

I lost respect for Steve when he decided to get the surgery and become Stephanie... It's like that episode of trollin was him just trying to make him self look courageous like Caitlyn Jenner.

i lost respect for stephanie stepp when she took a drug to do these hard tricks. No grabs, no last jump and only rails on tuesday is how it should be

You mean fucking rich?

Good for him. It's the rare personality that is able to use skiing as a launchpad to celebrity and success. Most end up being a sad representative of a resort skiing with gapers who remember them in their heyday.

Johnny Mosely is the shit. Great skier and one of the nicest dudes you'll ever meet.

nope it's always been the same.

Courage: the ability to do something that frightens one; bravery.

Courage is not linear, nor does one person's courage take away from another person's courage. Courage comes in all forms, running into a burning building to save someone you've never met, or coming out in a community which seems at times pretty homophobic with its use of gay and other insults like that.

And where's your praise for being straight? People expect you to be straight, but apart from that, no one is trying to take away your right to marriage for being straight, or to adopt kids, or to be even in a defacto relationship. You can't be fired for being straight, you can be fired for being gay. And this list goes on and on. If you think it's just as easy as being gay as it's being straight then you're being willfully ignorant.

Plot twist: Pringle's gay too

Last time I checked, I've never heard anyone say "that's so straight" as an insult.

Really? You don't see the endless stream of threads about people bitching about racers, gapers, and pretty much anyone else who doesn't like park skiing like nsers do?

When i watched X Games for the first time (2004) i was devastated, because every single athlete had full on service crew and people carrying their skis to the start and all that. I don't know that was an alpine thing to me and i thought freestyle skiers were just these ski rats who don't give a fuck and just ski...Mad respect to the tricks these people throw down though! Past and Presents these guys are killing it!

Tanner Hall is a good skier, no doubt about it, but his actions and reputation for being a "look at me" type of guy doesn't make me a huge fan.

I don't think there's one skier I don't look up to. And I didn't even realize Gus was gay until the xgames! It surprised the crap out of me! I'm not sure I can grasp that, especially in the skiing world. I don't find being homo as the norm, but oh well, his decision not mine. And that one dude that said Wise is too vocal about his religion, what does Wise believe in? I haven't really paid attention to him for a while.

I lost respect for Drew Ahlstrom when I learned of his existence. That little bitch can't even switch dub.

Ahmet. Relentlessly hates on comp skiing, does xgames not long after. All of LAFA for that matter

Doesn't hate on Comp skiing. You just have no lcue what your talking about. He hates on USSA because it costs over $300 for a membership and then at least $100 for each comp. They say that's for "costs" but that's bullshit. They are just being dicks and screwing people over. People in this country are idiots and don't understand capitalism. What they do is fine, but like Ahmet says WE Should Boycott them so then they either go out of business or change there ways.
