How much does Tanner and the others earn? Is it mostly from spnsors, or is it from cashprices too?

(Yes I know my english is bad)

yeah, i read Jon Olson drives a VW passat W12 with 290 hp. But isn`t there anyone who knows how much they earn totally in one year?

i would think at least one of the guys (probably tanner) make at least six figures but i always wondered that too

you gotta figure how much they get for free which would be a lot of their expenses during the winter and spring seasons

yes, offcours. But that aint so relevant, if they earn over 100 000. Free clothing is cool for a kid with no job, but not for an athlete who earns big cash.. I would think... But I thought they earn more than that too.. like 200-300k???

on dumonts myspace it said he was making over 250,000 a year. most of this shit comes from endorsements from big companies like cell phone and drink companies. and obviously if your and xz games athlete being back up by oakley. youll be making a fair bit of cash too.

well i know if they win a comp, or win cash from it, most sponcers (sp?) will give you a bonus, and the bigger ones match what you made from the comp.

yeah it does but unless you get commericial sponsers and end up on tv adverts like sean white and mountain dew etc. i doubt you'll earn that much, like 100,000 at the most

ya so 100,000 aint that bad espescialy to ski, plus you proballly get travel expenses, and get to ski for free and shit

the thing about pro skiers is, they dont have to pay for like anything but food and cars. all clothing and othere expensives come from their sponsors so they dont need too too much to get by comfortably.

HA only 100gs for the likes of tanner and jon!? I'll give you a semi comparison, darin shapiro in his best year made I think 360,000 from comps, endorsements etc, skiers seem to have more sponsors than wakeboarders... I am betting the big guns pull in 2-300 easy. Figure tanner wins a couple contests a year atleast? I figure he gets easily 100 grand in contest cash, plus big name sponsor endorsements that usually match and then some just for doing well in certain big name contests plus regular endorsements and being featured in movies etc, 2-300 grand is easy, I bet in his best year he'll pull in $500,000...

^ you please lay off the crac ! all the bling comes from winning. a small handfull of companies are paying OK money but not all that much

he also drives a ridickulous benz around bethel ME....they make plenty of money...

pro mtn bikers don't paid enuff

what they're doodies is way more impressive ther're doing with their bodies is way more impressive than pro baseball, or basketball

mountain bikers don't get paid enough either i agree^

I read in freeskier Tanner invests in real estate. If he lives in the rockies the land is worth a shitload. So if he buys it and sells it for more, He could profit a lot. I think he made a good financil choice.

Armada, Oakley, Grenade, Dalbelo(SP?), Red Bull, Park City, etc... all matching comp winnings at some percentage adds up! Plus photo incentive, media coverage, etc...top guys with the right sponancersorsesors are in the 6 figure range.

1. Dumont drives a Cadillac CTS-V as he stated in an interview in (ski time or freeskier?) this season.

2. Think about where income can come from...

a. sponsors: usually kick in signing bonuses, equipment, possible travel expenses

b. mountains: may provide signing bonus, not likely, would provide free access and kick in for travel to comps/transportation

c. comp cash: Small comp = $1-10k, medium comp = $10-15k, Large comp = $20k+, Holy mother of comps.. occur once/twice a year = $50-100k, generally split among a team

d. film companies: Big names generally get the $$, small guys are in it for the face time

3. Tanner partially owns a ski company, film company, deals in real estate, holds legendary sponsor status, wins "holy mother comps" and large comps regularly..

..six figs would not be out of reach.

4. (This one will be the flame point) Seth Morrison, as big as he was a couple of years ago, stated that he was essentially going into debt every ski season despite sponsors/ad spots. Doesn't that say something?

5. Pro skiers rarely come from "unpriveleged" backgrounds. A few have but for the most part "white bread" is what it is. I would imagine the young gen of pro skiers already had some financial backing from mom and pop (add that to income, subtract from expenses).

Guess thats it.

...spent. Peace

there is no money in skiing compared to other sports...look at golf for example...the top skiers earnings are nothing compared to other sports...some pros retainers from there ski sponsors can get up to like 100 g's, but in comparison that isnt all that much..then they get alot from photo incentive with all the mag exposure, and sponsors will match comp winnings alot of times...but sitll in general it is measly earnings compared to other sports...not that thats a terrible thing though, just throwin it out there

for the most part, the top pros and even middle of the line pros don't have it bad... If someone gave me 50 grand a year and equipment and some travel allowance to ski for fun/compete, I'd be on that train in a heartbeat, doing what you love and making money doing it, even if it doesnt compare to a 1st place purse in golf, there is no better thing in life, some guys do better than others but none of em have it bad in my opinion...

Skiers don't get paid shit.

The market for skiing is still so small.

If there's no money coming in, there's no money going out.

First of all, the best paid athlete right now is candide with his 250 000$ contract with Rossi, and that is true so please no one argues with it. THEN, it only depends on how much comps they win and how much picture of them are published.

Also, someone said "sponsors match what you win in a contest" but sometimes, your main sponsor will double that (Charles Gagnier for example).

So you can't fix an income, it will all depend on the visibilty they offer and the comps they win.

problem is that 50grand a year isn't very much when you only have a 5 year career. a lot of atheletes are not even lucky enough to get 5 years.

you can live off 50k a year pretty easily, but it would be pretty hard to invest it well enough to live off it for any amount of time.

you know how sometimes you happen to find like, 10 bucks in a ski lodge? yeah well, add up everysingle time a pro skier does that, and that's your income. Plus, you can take into account all the sexual favours they do, some run a pretty penny, while others pretty much take what they can get...

thats true about the 5 year part... thats when you hope you went to college so you have something to fall back on...

I hope to be making atleast that much out of college and skiing as much as possible... I hope

tanner makes 125 g's a year. ive heard that from a close friend of his. there is no way in hell dumont makes over 250g's. he is a little cocky motherfuck that only wins the x games because he is small and goes huge

I agree with this guy, if you are huge you can do well with proper money management and investment choices, making lots of cash. I also believe that the majority of pro skiers are just maintaining an existance on a "ghetto-fabolous" ski bum income.
