Skiers income!

From what I understand, Seth makes a good living. I would like to know when he said that about going into debt every year. Maybe early in his career. He is the face of K2 skis, and probably makes more than any K2 athlete. Pep is incredible, and getting very popular, but I cannot believe K2 pays him the way they do Seth. Seth is one of the few people who is universally respected in skiing, revered by jibbers and big mountain guys alike. If Tanner makes more than Seth that is pretty sad. About Seth's heli time, those guys do not pay for heli time, that is done by their sponsors. When Seth is skiing on his own he does not go up in helis, he goes to resorts or maybe skins or sleds. One guy I am surprised is not mentioned is McConkey. He makes alot and deserves it. I know he owns several properties in Tahoe, including a house in squaw valley. Any house in squaw that is not a shack should go for at least 1 million. I lived in a house there about 4 years ago that was falling apart and still sold for 600,000.

Pep is probably the best skier in the world. What do you mean "getting very popular"? The guy has been killing it for years and is on top of everything. If you don't think he deserves what he makes, then you're stupid. He isn't the highest paid athlete in skiing, but he's better than those who are.

And seth probably goes into debt because he runs his travel budgets out in the first month trying to find the best snow, but has been getting crapped out the last few years.

wow shut up about Tanners myspace and Jons. ITS FAKE! u idiots...come on give me a break u guys are retarted if u think its actually him

it all depends on how they did in competitions, they win a lot, they get a lot, they loose a lot, they dont get a lot, plus sponsers might give them here and there

skiers dont make that much money, its just that they never have to pay for anything

clothes

skis

boots

bindings

plane tickets

sleds

cars(sometimes)

lift tickets

rent(sometimes)

on top of that they can win non cash prizes in comps

Where did I say that Pep does not deserve what he makes? I said that I doubt K2 pays him the way they do Seth. As to Pep's "getting very popular," well 5 years ago no one had heard of him and Seth was headlining movies. He definitely is "getting very popular," and for good reason. You seem to think me characterizing him this way is an insult, when it is not. If you have not followed skiing very long I can understand you thinking that Pep has been around forever, but he has not. I would be surprised if K2 pays Pep more than Seth, as Seth has been their poster boy for a long time. I think Pep deserves more money than he gets, but I do not think he deserves more than Seth. If he exhausts his travel budget looking for good snow, I would like to see his budget increased. He has put together arguably the best skiing of anyone the last 7 years and it is too bad if bad snow limits his ability to throw down. When Pep can ski an Alaskan peak 98 percent as Seth can than I will call Pep the best skier in the world. In the fall of 03', when Pep's focused part came out, I remember a K2 rep telling me about the buzz about Pep, how many at K2 felt that his skiing(big mountain only) at age 20 was where Seth's was when Seth was 25. He said the hope at K2 was that when they were in their late 20's guys like Pep and CR might be as good in big mountains as Seth, Nobis, and Shane. But it has not happened yet. Pep is not as good as Seth in Alaska, hopefully someday he will be.

yeah i never thought they made a lot of money, i just thought that they had everything paid for them by sponsors.

i remember reading some where that jp auclairs last deal he got from salomon was like $900,000 before switching to armada, yes thats almost a million bucks for one year, crazy shit, and that was a few years ago!

Candide and Bode have two of the largest publicly reported contracts in skiing currently, both around 1 million. Do some googling of freeskier/powder/freeze/skiracing articles.

My comment about Seth stating he went into debt was based on an article in powder in 03-04 season (I'll try to find it) and one in either skiing or freeskier within the past couple of years. I've got these somewhere..

Skiers don't get paid enough but thats because it isn't a spectator-revenue driven sport like baseball/basketball/football. Skiing is participant observed, all the people watching are paying in because they are already skiers.. and that cash generally covers resort expenses/loans. Even in Europe, although it is highly respected lifestyle the cash is minimal compared to rugby/cricket/soccer, etc.

Any money skiers make isn't from skiing itself, it's from peripheral sources.. Believe me I would love to see states pick up freestyle teams, franchise them out and see Tanner and Colby have to negotiate 7 figure contracts.

..or maybe money just ruins the whole point of skiing..

Bottom line is we really don't know. Go ski.

Another guy who I read made alot afew years ago was Guerlain Chicherit. He is not well known in the U.S. but is famous in france. I heard he had sponsors like alfa romeo. The french tend to love their own, which is part of the reason Candide makes so much money. I saw a big mountain contest from around 2000 at Mammoth. Guerlain put McConkey, Dav, and a couple other of the famous big mountain guys to shame. He is absolultely incredible. I wish he got parts in American ski movies. He is kind of like Dominique Perret, who made multiples of six figures in the 90's in Europe, but was not all that famous here. True salaries are hard to come by, people may not want all that info public.

the only reason perret was not HUGE here was because he was such a giant pain in the ass to work with. absurd depends and he only worked with his personal photographer. we generally don't put up with that BS here. shame though, cause he was THAT good. probably still is.

lets see here i make about $30 a week but i get a free season pass so i couldnt be more happy

t hall does roughly 250,000 per year. think sponsors, comps, photos, videos. it all adds up but having strong sponsors is where the money is at

Dont forget Pro-Models, the skiers get a percentage of the money made of pro-models and you know how many people are riding the fujatives for example...

"Jon Olson drives a VW passat W12 with 290 hp."

This car does exist, its called the PHAETON. Look it up.

Google is real hard to use for some people I understand though..

no pro skier makes over 100gs.....they are FUCKING POOR.....the ones who are rich are the one who own stock...and help design skis for the company they ski for.....and even then no skier makes over 100gs.

I imagine Jon makes the most, being sponsored by J Lindeberg and all. But only a handful of skiers make a living from it. Like, the top 7 or so make prolly 6 figures... but the rest are prolly around 20,000.

the phaeton is so nice. my dad has one and it is so sick. if it has a bunch of shit then is was definatley over $100000, cause my dads didnt have that much shit in it and it was $96000

well im pretty sure abotu this, but correct me if im wrong

skiers get a certain amount of money for magazine photos and more for covers. and i also think that their sponsors match their competition earnings.

and tanner hall is in the realestate business, so hes making good money

i saw a picture of it. it was not only a cadillac. it had like all black windows.. those like chrome super expensive tires.. etc.

...either way you never hear of a starving pro skier so they must have enough money to live off of or else they would do the smart thing and get a new job lol. the life of a pro skier is def not a bad one, and anyway you could always sell yourself for sex and get away with calling yourself a pro.

im not a hundred percent on this, but i think some of the bigger sponsors match comp winnings.....so if a skier wins 10k in a comp and is sponsored by oakley, salomon, etc....they match the prize purse.

wow bro six figures i know alot of people tht make tht much but they have to work their asssss off unlike taner going to destenations and skiing all the time
