Ski video cinematography/recent trends in ski lifestyle

after viewing many of the lastest ski video trailers via podcast i am somewhat disappointed. The skiing is great and will always be progressing however the way it's [lifestyle] portrayed seems kinda lame.

speaking of lame.. when will ski videos stop repeating snowboard video cinematic styles/music. Seriously, lame +afterlame are incredibly awesome videos.. but come on, that's the robot food editor's style --why were there like 6 or 7 new videos copying the typography, the color schemes, etc.. even the same music.

back to lifestyle..

so size:xxL clothing + skiing hunch back is stylish.. [and acting ghetto] seemingly apparent through the latest vids.

is this how you ski?

Obviously this is not true for all videos, mostly just the younger crowd –which is the majority.

Skiing is just a gangster sport. I'll use football as an example, most kids who play it are jocks, but of course you have the occassional normal person who plays it, but all your gonna find is milk jug carrying, weight lifting jocks, most of the time. So for skiing, most people like myself are just gangster since birth and being hella fuckin G and laughing at everyone who's pants are smaller than XL. But just like football, you will find the occassional punk rocker or weird TBC music-liking person. But yea skiers rep Jamaica till we die
 
one thing is being a little ghetto and haveing some style and not dressing like a herb and then theres the other side which most kids think is dope and its called being a fuckin wanksta....just casue u rock baggy ski gear dosent mean you can say nigga and try and be all hood and shit ....cause in reality you mom dropped you off at the mountain and you havent flipped anything but the cell phone you mom bought for you

have you watched this years snowboard vids? they have what skiing vids for the most part dont, they have fun. the steez is the same. dont hate on style till you have your own.

music is awesome as long as it is awesome.

this years movies are kinda blah, theres a few standouts. lss, and photoplay are pretty cool, snow and prove is dope, different but dope. not that the skiing is bad, of course it gets better. but for real... nothings changed in like 4 or 5 years. same lines, same songs it seems like for the different parts, and fuck it i forgot what i was getting at.

stop watching movies and go get it i guess...

Yeah, so what? People dress gangster, some people do not. I personally do not see the benefit of it. Sure, it does look cooler on rails, and on rails it helps to be hunched over. But it's all a matter of what type of skiing you do. For me, i can barely slide a rail, which sort of gets rid of my need for pants to be down around your ass. But don't get me wrong, i wear XL when i probably don't need it. Just these differnt styles work for different purposes of what you're doing on the slopes. So yeah, i really have no idea which side i was debating, but whatever.

dudes, all my clothes are xl or xxl, I rock taal t's all day. I always wear headphones and carry a switch blade. my hair is long, and I sag my pants down to my knees, and rocka bandana on the hill. WHY can I do this???? Because I have a drive by shooting felony on my record Bitches!!!

skiing is not gangster; the word/suggestion has nothing to do with skiing. if creating this image --such as wearing excessive ammounts of fabric + accessories-- is so important to an individual, that's fine. if this image is soon an icon for newschool skiing, that's depressing.

 
skiing is not about being gangster. baggy clothes and all look cool and styly but the whole "jea jea im a thug" is not what skiing is about.
 
dude, i'm pretty sure john spriggs and tim durtschi(sp) don't think that they are gangsters. just because they are wearing big clothes doesn't make them gangsters. it looks cool so they wear it. they don't act like gangsters, they just wear big clothes, and gangsters happen to wear big clothes too. and who are you to judge them? they are having fun, so let them wear their "gangster" clothes. who cares man. they are just clothes, not that big of a deal. they kill it on skis and that is what you should be worrying about, not what they are wearing.
 
i got to hang out with tim a little bit at ICER. he is waaaaaay chill. doesn't talk like a poser, wigger. he's just into having fun and big clothes are fun for him. get over it.

do you see this around your resort?

i remember this [nameless] guy at a [nameless] resort who use to ski with his hands at his boots. we thought he had a problem with his spine but apparently he just thought it looked interesting. Later that year we realized that a handful of pro skiers were trademarking this stance and he had been paying attention.

most people in this thread seem to all about this, claiming that it's self-expression + individualism. from a person who isn't wrapped up in ski media it appears to be a direct reaction of the consumer from the booming ski industry + media.

so if this 'is what skiing is becoming' can i count on everyone copying another style?

you know i'll be wearing the latest hottest gear + accessories

no i have never seen anyone grabbing their boots when they ski. that was probably just one kid, and who knows, god forbid he could have been goofing off and having fun. why do you care so much what other people are doing? if you don't like, then don't do it. chill out man. let people have fun.
