So at my mountian our ski racers are all stuck up brats...we call them fairies. I was just wondering if thats how they all are. What about at your mountain?
 
naw, not all are like that, most racers who move into freeskiing or big mountain usually kill it. strong skiers racers are...
 
hahaha it's hilarious because I grew up racing with kids from Greek Peak. Fortunately, Erik, Steve, and Pat weren't your typical racers, much like myself. But I know where you're coming from, there are definitely some stuck up prick racers out there. I'm in the middle of a debate with the race coaches at Togg right now trying to convince them that the bottom of the park trail is for the PARK, not for RACING. They refuse to use their race trail for reasons unknown, oh well...
 
some of the racers at my mountain are fags, but i may be hitting urban tonight with the cool ones haha
 
same,a few of them aree fun to jib with but the others are all stuck up , accutaly the best kidi know at park is a racer, but the rest ofd them are all stuck up
 
ya me n my friends invented a new solution for the stuck up ones.... its called racer jousting and you can pretty much guess how it works
 
You guys really shouldn't be so quick to bash racers. Some of the best free skiers in the world came from racing backgrounds. Just look at Jon Olsson and Seth Morrison. Both those guys are incredible and both started off racing. Hell Jon Olsson STILL races! The guy came 12th in a NOR-AM super combined 2 weeks ago. Sure I understand some racers can be abrasive but that's true of all skiers. You can't honestly say that all park skiers are great guys but all racers are complete jerks, it's not that clear cut.
 
at my hill theyre all part of a race club who wants to destroy the park and make it a run because they consider freestyling too easy but i never saw one do anything but a spread eagle off the smallest jump in the park. we call them losers.
 
Of course many racers will be pricks (I was a racer up until this year) but many racers aren't same with all aspects of skiing and all other sports. I stopped racing because I grew out of my old hill (MRG) where the race program was so tight knit and chill. Our head coach always taught us to be respectful of the other skiers. I then did one other year at the Sugarbush weekend program and hated it. So much more stress (J2) and it wasn't tight knit or organized. That year I spent most of my time freeskiing the powder because the training wasn't good either.

Back to my main point of not all racers being assholes. A bunch are, and they are the ones that stand out because they are obnoxious. The nice ones you have to talk to in order to realize how nice they are. The same goes for newschooling and all other sports. I remember I used to be so afraid to go in the park because there were a few assholes that would laugh. Then I realized, fuck them, they were at my level in the park at one time, who gives a shit if they laugh. There are the asshole prick racers who think they own the mountain and the chill ones who like to ski anywhere, but just love to race. You also have to keep in mind the stress that racers have. I won't go into it because this post is long enough already, but it can make even the nice ones on edge. /rant

I think there's definitely a feeling of eliteness in racing, but there are still a lot of chill racers. For instance, we let a racer hit a BC booter we were building earlier today, and he threw a laid out 50 foot backflip his first hit on GS skis. It was pretty nuts. Two more racers hit it a little later and crashed 15 foot straight airs and then told us we didn't know how to build jumps.
 
just as many punk ass little bitches in the park as there are chasing gates. give up this fucking argument already!
 
they arent all badthe younger ones are the worstbut as the years pass, and like in the locker room and on the mt we all become familiar and honestly, they dont bother me as muchbut the younger ones i have trouble tolerating at timesso i hear youjsut shrug it all off. thats what i try to do

Some at my "hill" will once in a while try to destroy lips and such but I don't really care. The only time I have had a run in with an "asshole" racer is when he told me that I was carving and holding my poles wrong because I didn't bend my knees enough and such. Other then that. I don't bother them, they don't bother me. Everyone gets along! On top of it I raced when I was a youngster so I have a certain level of respect for them and everyone else on the hill that isn't a complete bafoon.
 
I've never experienced any of this assholeness you guy's are talking about. Most of them are just nerdy and jealous that girls actually talk to us. They are usually just socially awkward or losers. I have nothing against racing, going that fast is scary as fuck, just the complete lack of steeeze most of them have. and the fact that they stare in lodges at our sag in their sick amarican eagle gear.
 
i have nothing against racers, one of m best friends is a racer and he rips. however it was funny during my csia level one there was a racer in the group and he couldnt show the course conductor a basic parallel sliding turn because all that he knew how to do was carve. i thought this was pretty funny considering that this guy thought that he was hot shit and he coudn't even do basic parallel
 
There not bad kids, they are just annoying, they know no park etiquette. They are loud and annoying too. There always like DO YOU GO OFF JUMPS!!!!!!!!! I fucking hate the loud ones
 
there are assholes in every aspect of skiing, some racers however don't have anything nice at all to say about what they consider to be park rats. Also some "park rats" have nothing nice to say about racers it's a yin and a yang thing I guess
 
i remember when i was about 14? this kid was in my ski school lesson, he was a racer with his own brand spanking new skis, such an ass, always cutting in line or going as fast as possible away from the group. thing was he fell over about twice as many times as everybody else.

haha everybody threw snowballs at him cause he was a dick.
 
I used to race, but it never got serious. the racers i know are pretty much pushed into racing by their parents, especially the arrogant fathers with sleek hair.

i dont hate racers, some of them are nice but i just dont stand those who arent.

i've noticed people hating on Jon Olsson for racing, stop that. i cant imagine how hard it has to be going from those two entirely different ways of skiing
 
Well alot of the racers here are redneck cocky assholes so I hate them but not for their racing. What really pisses me off is their COACHES who will cut the lift line and scoff at any non racer. Also my coach when I raced as a kid was the biggest douche ever and despised twin tip skis, snowboarders, POWDER, moguls basiccaly anything but a perfectly groomed run. If it snowed 30cm he would want us to slide the course and train. Fucking ridiculous. ANd he was awarded coach of the year in Canada.
 
Some are douches, but most at my mountain are chill. One of em has this years JJ's and he skis with someone off the team with SFB's, and a girl i know races and shes really chill.
 
they are pretty chill at my mountain, but then again everyone is.

sometimes they take laps thru the park, ive seen some sick daffys and spread eagles

so sometimes me and my buddies take laps past their course, sometimes hit the gates if nobody is there in line,

its pretty cool, all for fun.
 
ive been racing for like 3 years now. and i know what you guys are sayin. i mean at my mountain the racers are all pretty legit and not dicks. but i have seen other racers starting shit with freestylers. i obvioulsy like freestyle better...waaaay better. but do racing to improve my actual sking.In almost all interviews with shane mcConkey he mentions how his racing background has helped him keep up with all the newcomers to freestyle. and its true. racing does complement your skiing a lot. but its not excuse for stuck up kids so im all for the hate on those racers. i just dont want people labeling ALL racers to be like that cause i know their not.
 
I feel sorry for the ones where I was last week (Espace Diamanté (France)) they close off specific runs to race down, spent their time building a a slalom course, then a bunch of old French people ski down there and wreck most of the marks... then people get in there way when there actually racing and fuck up there runs, sure some of them are douches, but half of them have a reason to be

Disclaimer: I'm not a racer, I've never raced, don't hate on me for feeling sorry for them, and if one of the camps on a landing site I wouldn't hesitate to do them over with my ski pole...
 
i raced for 5 years when i was younger.. all the kids on my team were jerks, girls and guys both. most of the other kids i competed with were all jerks, i hated it. i still see them on the hill, theyre all STILL jerks.. but there are deff some not so friendly guys in the park too!! your going to get unfriendly people everywhere..
 
most of the racers where im from are pretty strong skiers some of them venture into the park and they try some big stuff.
 
most of the kids on my race team were major tools, except 3 or 4. our coach was probably the most chill person out of everyone hahaha
 
i know a couple in my school, their all cool, some of them are really good skiers to, ones probably better than me in the park too.

but then again, i was at killington, and the lift for the racers to get up to their course was right over the park, i was stopped waiting, and some younger guys were like "you dropped you wallet" and i just looked up at them and was like... you race

my friend was on the lift the other day, he asked one of the racers if he had a soccer game after this, he got some dirty looks
 
im not one to hate on ski racers because i used to be one but what happened to me today may have changed my opinion forever. i was skiing with my brother at les 2 alpes in france and during the summer months it is very crowded with racers, we were waiting in line when an italian race coach tried to cut ahead of us. many little race kids had been snaking the lines all day and finally my brother had enough and as the coach tried to snake us he put his pole out in front as a way of preventing the guy from cutting and looked at him and said "no." instead of just staying in line where he belonged, he turned and punched my brother who is 17 in the arm and quickly skied to the front of the line and got on the lift, he then waiting for us at the top where i told him never to touch my brother again and he was upset that we were preventing him from going to the front and he needed to hit my brother. it just pissed me off that they thought they owned the mountain and could do whatever they wanted.

I raced for 12 years. i like to think that the majority are chills. However, there are many who are pricks, even in my mind.shitty but true.

quick racer story... i was at sunday river early season and there was one lift and a long line and my friend took a quick lap from the rail park so i see a little mound of snow and i went to nose block and some fag racer said "thats not how u do a front flip"... so i said it was a front flip then he told me i sucked (which i kinda did at the time) so i called him a spandex lover with a small dick and he was standing next to his dad it was funny and me and friend laughed for a while

also at sunday early season there was a very small area fro park while there was 4 trails for racers and the racers decided to skip everyone waiting for the rails but instead use the rails as gates and race/ carve around em... so we made one stop told her and some guy off and called them stupid fucks... it was fun lol but someone coulda gotten hurt from them
so bottom line i dont like racers that much
 
how can you be mad at racing when it helped turn out her..........
