Ski Games

i think there should be a button (and balance method) for rails. unlike dna spin where is more or less luck if you stay on the rail. like cruz said, have a balancing method like tony hawks. you also might want to check out some good snowboarding video games for ideas...they are good.

liek in amped snowboarding on x box how you can rotatae spins after you come out of a cork or rodeo so you can take it to 900 or 1080 or 1260... just possibilities.. and when your on rails have like a the left and right balance you out.. and if you make rails take soem rails that mammoth have like a rainbow that goes into a downhill rail and maybe a rail in the middle that you have to ollie on to form either side

Be able to control the speed of the spin and flip. Most games you cant do that and you cant do a nice slow 3 or back, you just huck it and stop spinning at 360 if you want to three.

 
Most of the above sounds sweet. I'd like to know what trick i'm doing (i'm new to newscool and not too sure on all the tricks) but only if it's good. An urban level would be cool as would well designed levels if you have time- ones that you can do loads of transfers on. Make it simple though and not preprogrammed trick like tony hawks where it's easy to pull anything. Make the tricks rely on your balance and position like real skiing. Cheers.

 
dont bother going do in depth. I say make a rough version.. one run with a table. (if your using DNA spin of the platform maybe a little more hardcore) but start simple, and work your way up to rails etc.

Ok, make it very easy to update. Make it like DNAspin where now everyone is making new levels and shit. People need to easily update this so we could have a gradually growing game and everytime we are getting bored or have a new idea for a level we can just tell someone who knows hteir computer shit and he or she can make it for us. Itll be better that way.

look at aggressive inline for examples, just pretend they're on skis. they have flatspins in it by the way.

also have a screen to select clothes, skis, etc. so you can trick out your rider. also dont have the view from the side, have it from behind

whoever sed have it like agressive inline, your retarded. you hit a button and it does a flatspin or bio for you. the spins should be like amped or dna with a third axis like someone said. it would be way more fun to have a challenge figureing out a flatspin or cork, instead of pushing 1 button to do it.

 
My 50 cents

-Have it be like DNA spin in that you can control the direction and type of spin. I like that more than pressing a button and doing a pre-programmed spin. It is just more realistic and entertaingin, and allows for more posssiblities.

The grabs should be pre-programed (or animated, or whatever you wanna call it), otherwise it wouldn't be to much fun.

-Have it very moddable, so us nerds here who have a good head on our shoulders can take it and make new things for it.

=-----make it so it's using common files that are editable in Zmoddler or something free (if that is possible). This way, the game can keep getting better and better.

i dont know if this has been say'd but you should make it so you can spin without having to prespin......like in dna spin you can rotate up or down if you just jumped with out prespinning....this way you could do cork 3's and such

 
ya the taking out of pre-spin is a good idea... fuckin cant wait for this game.... someone posted a graphic character in the pictures digital art section i think... it looks phat... id use that for ur game if he'd let u or somethin...

sorry i havent replied for a while, i was gone all of the long weekend!

Anyway, these are all excellent suggestions, so let me bring you up to date.

1. The unlimited version of Havok is commercial and requires you to pay and be licensed. The version i am using is the working version. It comes free with books and on some sample CD's etc. It has the same capabilities except you are limited to 100 frames (A 3d scene in max uses 1 frame, so this is not an issue)

2. This game will be nothing like DNA spin, nor will it be based on it. This will be totally defferent and set in a fully 3d workls, not just a 3d Background type thing. Don't even think about DNA spin, this will be much more! (I hope!)

3. For those people who are interested in developing what i am able to create, ill probably make source files available since you can't reverse finished projectors. You will need at a minimum: 3d Studio max 4 or higher, The havok engine, director 8.5 or higher and The W3D exporter.

4. Someone mentuioned a trampoline game. Thats what i actually plan on making first to test the physics of everything. The game will not be unrealistic. Everything will be normally sized and gravity will be set at 9.81 m/s/s , just like on earth. Everything will have the correct mass as well. My goal is to make it as realistic as i can.

Ill be done the trampoline Mini-game in a month or so. Sorry its going to take so long, but i have a hard semester this year and lots to do with school. I plan on including a nice trampoline game with the ski game so you can dick around and learn how to throwe tricks. I plan on making the game at first with just one big air level, and then expanding it to a whole set of freeride levels.

If anyone is interested in testing, let me know.

One more thing...once you get it devolped a little try to get the models to be more realistic. Like in FFC, the skiers look like cartoons. Stay away from that if you can.

i unfortunately cant just stick it on java, because it is an different language and an entirely different system. I would have to make the game all over agin in a language i dont understand. Shockwave should work for mac with no problems. I cant just mail you a copy of max and reactor bacause A) Max is almost 200mb, second, they are both protected with thick licensing systems. Normally i dont have a problem with giving people programs for free, but these are a few that i would rather see someone pay for. Also, You can get a free version of reactor if you already have max that has decent capabilities.

You guys have to calm down and be patient. Whne I was doing DNA 2.0 There were a million people bugging me, it really pisses you off. You need to understand that a lot of time is put into this kinda stuff, and you have to wait a while in order to get the best result.

nah, i dont mind being bothered, it encourages me to keep working and gives me that extra shove when im lazy. I think ill let a few people who know what thier doing test it out first, then ill let the donators test it, then finally it will be released. As for when, well.. im about... 5% done. So maybe sometime in the summer.
