my parents are really getting on me to start looking at colleges. im looking for a good college out in the rockies that is within 40 minutes of a pretty good ski area. so just any colleges that you guys are at or know of just post here. any help would be greatly appreciated
 
Look at Boulder, CO.

Or look at Utah, lots of colleges there. Or Montana. Or BC. Or WA. Why does it have to be in the Rockies? They don't necessarily have the best skiing if that's what you're thinking.

Fuck front range schools! killer schools and killer resorts but lots of traffic and huge crowds and tons of noobs! I would say its a draw between Western State or Montana State. But it really all depends? If your looking for killer parks, CU would be a good pick. Colorado MTN College also good but very small.

Western State- 40 min Crested Butte

Montana State- 15 min Bridger Bow, 40 min Big SKY

Colorado MTN College- 30 min Aspen, Steamboat- N/A very close

front range schools- 2 hrs with traffic to any Vail resort.
 
U of U is where it's at. Here's why...... Most convenient city ever. You can pick a buddy up at the airport, go skiing for 5 hours, go to class, hit a handrail, then do it all over again. The mountains are so close to the campus, and there are a ton of kids who shred.

CU Boulder is too far from good skiing, and too "scene".

UNR would be cool, but it's UNR. The college and dorms aren't are good as U of U from what i've seen.
 
i hate to be a dick, but you should probably look at colleges for more than just their proximity to ski resorts. I mean, if you can find a good college that will help you get where you want to go later in life close to a ski resort, thats great, but overlooking the fact that college is about getting a job might be kind of dangerous down the road.
 
dude it doesn;t take 2 hours from CU or DU to say Keystone or Vail. Especially from CU all you have to do is leave before 7 and you should be to keystone in about an hour or vail in around an hour and a half
 
Eh.... thats not all that true, while you don't want to go to a super shitty school, for the most part it doesn't matter where you do your undergrad unless you go somewhere super elite... I made the poor decision of going to a school that is a couple hours from any ski areas and only get to ski on weekends at best...it sucks, it really shouldn't be hard to balance a pretty good school with a close ski hill.
 
lolz, it takes like 25-30 mins to get to bridger and 50-60 mins to get to big sky.

As for ski colleges, U of Nevada reno looks dope almost went there, montana state is pretty dope too.
 
i dont know why everyone hates on du and cu. its only like hour 50 min to key, breck, or abasin (which is usually open till june) the park scene is pretty much unbeatable. if you like to party go to cu and you can still ski a decent amount but if you want to ski as much as possilbe come to du. i only have classes on mon and weds so i ski 5 days a week
 
im in fucking gay ass fagot FL for meteorology, im transferring to plymouth state NH or university of utah becase i wanna be avalanche protection when im older and ski instructor

(and do some comps on the side to make some money and a name for myself)

fuck florida, go to a place you wanna spend some years at man. (and im transferring to U of U with a 2.8 at FIT (a really good school) and the web site says most poeple 2.6 and above get in. They also have a jib park 10 minute walk from dorms and ofcourse dank mountains over the valley.

ill be visiting there saturday to tuesday if anyone wants to meet up/ski/ drink/ smoke a j
 
University of Denver if you can afford it. Great school, and lots of rich people so you always have a place to stay in the mountains, i've been out around 40 times at least so far this year. Oh, and no classes on fridays unless your an engineer. Its a 1 and a half hour drive to keystone

30 mins to park city

40 mins to ALTA and Snowbird (might be a little off i cant remember)

SLC as a sick city to live in

tons of lakes for boating and stuff during summer

+ hot chicks
 
yeah id say U of U, not just cuz i go there. Its a pretty decent school, not hard to get into, not super expensive, and most of all the class selection is huge so you can make a good schedule the caters to going to the mountain.

Westminster is a lame school i wouldnt look into it. Unless you want a highschool atmosphere and most of the kids that go there are pieces of shit.
 
why does everyone say cu boulder is so close to resorts..... i was just there looking into going to school, but i decided on no because it is way too much driving time to ski. never was it under 1hr. 45 min. to` get to a-basin, breck, copper, or keystone. i am not going so far away to be so far from the mountains. i am now looking into british columbia, vancouver..... nevada at reno, u of u, montana state, u washington and others in the portland area
 
U of U has a major specifically for the ski industry which i find pretty cool. internships with wasatch powder guis and h2o heli..what!
 
what is this mysterious jib park you speak of? i live in the dorms and no of none, except if your talking about railgardens, which is too far for walking.
 
Western State all the way, that is my number one school unless I get big scholorships to cu...it is really only about 25 minutes to crested butte too, and crested butte never gets old.
 
UNR is building brand new dorms and has alot of brand new ones up, the campus isnt anything special but it is nice, and if you live in the western states it will only cost you $6,000 a year to go there.
 
i'm from otisfield, Maine and i have no fucking clue what you're talking about, whats wrong with that statement? Are you talking Gould and CVA? BEcasue we're talking about colleges.
 
denver college has close mountains and you get like 1 1/2 monthes off just to go ski or whatever you want same with utah
 
thers so many shcools. Im thinking about the same ones as everyone in here haha. I cant decide what mountains i want to live by. so its between CU, U OF U, somewhere in cali..? any scohols by tahoe..? an British columbia, I think it would be really cool to go to school in BC, that place is so nice.
 
ive been hearing that U of U has some real nice skiing and is a pretty good school, but how is the party scene?
 
powder magazine just did a little review on the best ski towns to gain an education. its the february issue on page 34 and 35 if youre interested.

im also debating just moving somewhere for better skiing or going back to school to do both

- fucking 40 grand to go to a school that has no better education than any other big school

-at least $25-30 in gas everytime u wanna go ski.

- whoever says its 50 min to keystone ur fucking high. it takes at least 40min. to get to 70 taking 6 or the other road. and thats in dry roads, which they never are.

-it does have a shit load of attractive girls and the campus and town is super nice, but most those girls are fucking crazy and have issues.

-don't go there if u wanna ski

-theres steamboat, breck, dillon, and leadville, and a few others

-all but leadville are like college for high school kids and dumbasses

-ski area specific programs

-if your at leadville, its 20min to copper, 40 to keystone, 45 to a-basin, 45 to breck, 2.5hrs to steamboat, 4hrs to aspen, 2.5-3hrs to crested butte, 1.5hrs to Winter park. All areas have pretty sick parks, keystone, breck, and copper prob the best.

Montana State - Bozeman

-great school

-great price

-20min to bridger bowl - not really a great park but its pretty legit, i skied there 3+ days a week and never got bored, powder almost everyday if u know where to go

-50min to big sky - my favorite area, so much sick skiing and pow for days after storms

-great town

I don't really know much about Utah but all the areas are pretty close, and the scene seems pretty chill out there.
