Ski colleges

yea montana sent me a bunch of stuff..but thers like nothing there right..? How are the parties and the girls..ive herd they are non-existent

you must be kidding, i just made it back to boulder last night from key in 1 hour 10 minutes. given i planned and left later to avoid traffic, but it's not that bad, it only took 1hour 30 going up, and we left at 6:45. you want a shitty drive, try going to CSU and skiing 4 days a week. it blows, but is still doable, its all about how committed you are.

What about U of Washington? Ive heard that they have a pretty solid buisness school and its close to stevens pass and crystal mountain

Yeah i take the ski area operations program at CMC Leadville, its similar to Selkrik but for US more than CA (diff laws and regs.) I've heard great things about Selkrik from the professors here and many other people.

UW is solid. Great education and about an hour from Snoqualmie. Its about an hour and a half from Stevens Pass which is a sick mountain. Not sure how far Crystal is from Seattle though, not too far though.

I go to Central Washington University which is on other side of the Cascades and make the trek to Stevens. I would suggest UW, Seattle is a sweet place and the mountain up here are siiiiiick. Ive been to most of the resorts WA, OR and ID and Stevens is my favorite besides Whistler.

If your looking for maximum amount of ski time and want to put academics on the back seat

i would for sure go the the U of U but if you want a more balenced school go to westminster

its right next to 1-80 so its even quicker to get to the mountain the the U of U(30 min to Park city), its got a good group of riders and its more tight nit then the U. also the school is really good and you can totally make your classes fit around skiing i am about to graduate and for the last four years i have averaged about 90 days of skiing

DU is not a hard school or hard to get into. CU has some good programs, but you have to take 70 and who wants to ski summit county on the weekends. CMC isn't a college. It is a continuation school for kids with money who barely passed high school. If skiing matters that much to you then go to school in the fall/summer and live at the mountain and work in the winter.

i am committed enough to make sure i go to college near a resort. i want to ski, not wake up at 645 am to drive for an hour and a half on i-70....... this does not show me how committed you are, rather, a lack of proper planning

Or you can ski like a true skier and get up at 9:30, leave at 10. Then ski for 2 hours, complain about the crowds, have some hits of the Taaka handle, talk shit on everyone else in park lane, then leave at 2.

portland state is a bomb school right downtown portland. it's about an hour and a half to hood which is open basically year round. plus portland has an incredible vibe, killer skateparks, a dope music scene, it's fairly cheap, and tons of great bud.

try finding that in utah... ha!

wow wtf is with all the hate on CO schools. i usually leave at around 8 which is not that bad, on the slopes by 10, ski till whenever cause its keystone and then be back in by at least 5. yes I-70 does back up at time but you just deal with it. while it may be more effort then some others schools cu and du are really good schools with hot chicks and awesome weather. it was 65 and sunny one day and then snowed that same night.

how is going to CSU not proper planning? they gave me a scholarship so i can afford to go to school out of state. or should i just go into debt so i can live closer to the mountains?

im committed enough to put myself into debt to ski more and more comfortably......... actually tho, i got 4.0's 4 semesters in a row in cc so i can get a scholarship to any school i want to go to....... if i didn't have that going, yes i would rather be in debt long term than be trying to spend a couple hundo a week on gas and like 20 hrs a week in the car in order to ski

i go to unr it like 30 minutes from northstar, boreal, squaw and rose and alpines like 40 minutes you can get to any place within 40 minutes basically

Well, it depends what you want. Assuming you want to go to one of the big ski schools it breaks down something like this

Park: CU > U of U >> MSU

Pow / BC: U of U = MSU >> CU

Partying: CU > U of U >= MSU

Drive to ski: MSU >= U of U >> CU

Education: CU > MSU = U of U (http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/usnews/edu/college/rankings/rankindex_brief.php)

I don't think there's really anything controversial there (Education is slightly dependent on department - if you are interested in agriculture MSU is bestr.. Astronomy/Physics at CU .. U of U.. I guess if you're a grad student? lol). It just kinda depends what you want. Also, DU, UNR, and UBC are fairly solid choices, but I don't have much experience with them so I don't want to say something and get it wrong. It seems like 90 percent of these threads just boil down to those 3 anyway.

yeah, well that's good, im just saying that you get used to driving, you do what you have to. though your gas estimate is exaggerated, and i try to stay in the mountains on weekends.

Everyone who says its 2 hours from cu to key and breck are dumb. it takes 1 hour and 15 minutes on a normal morning, and i did it in 1 hour 5 minutes yesterday. if you hit traffic it can take longer, but that has only happened to me like twice this year, and i go up every weekend. on the way back you hit traffic more often, but your happy because you went skiing. and this is all on the weekend, if you get days off during the week there is rarely traffic and the resorts arent crowded.

Yeah this about sums it up. The educaction depends on what u want to get into. MSU has a killer architecture program thats wayyyyyyyy better than CU's for half the price. They also have a really good video production type degree that is supposed to be really good as well.

CU has a good engineering degree.

But yeah the party scene at MSU is not like CU at all. Lots of parties at MSU but theyre all dudes. Still fun but it gets old. CU is like bitches everywehre, parties everywhere.

thanks for the help guys...this is giving me a good start on my search so great thanks to all you guys

University of Utah have some of the best medical and computer science programs in the country. Every hear of pixar or atari? They came from UU. The education at all the schools are pretty similar-Colorado being the best(overall), but it probably isnt going to get your much farther in life.

so i need to make this decsion to, i heard some one say something about universty of portland but does any one know any more is it hard to get into and is mount hood the only mountain nearby/is the traffic bad. also i was looking at westminster in utah and i think it would be good to for me because i could get a cross country scholarship but i heard it was a really small school. so i was just wondering if you guys know more about these schools

I moved from Ohio to U of U and it was the smartest choice for me. First you 7 banger resorts in 30 mins. Second, you have Park City to ride park and Alta to kill it in the BC or steeps. Third, the price of out of state tuition is reasonable. Fourth, if you know the right people, you can have fun partying, smoking the reefer (yes there is good bud here according to a few of my friends). The academics are also top notch here. Last the mormons are not as bad as everyone says, and a lot of the time they are pretty cool kids. I hope that helps some people. PM if you have any more questions

UW or WWU.
UW if you are serious about school, but think you can fit skiing in. ...I have not been able to accomplish both taking math/science classes though...

U of Washington is about an hour and a half from Stevens Pass. and probably and hour from snoqualmie.

UW is a sick school/campus and good skiing nearby.

sounds vaguely familiar haha

if I were that interested in avoiding I70 (I don't think its that bad, but I avoid weekends) then i would probably go to U of U.

Im going U of U for nursing, i'd be a freshman in fall but im taking off a year to get in-state and chill for a bit and ski

I have gone to CU - boulder, CMC - steamboat, and MSU- bozeman, so I think I have a pretty good idea of what these schools are like and this dude pretty much hit it dead on. everything depends on what you want to do:

Nothing but ski (7x week) - CMC

Party hard, ride the best parks with huge crowds (3-4x week), hardly get any good pow, do some school too - CU

Ski hard, ride SICK ass terrain (4-5x week), not the greatest parks but OK, live in a much more chill town than boulder, but not as much nightlife - MSU

I have heard good things about UNR, UU, and Oregon State.

CMC is a community college with only 2 year degrees, while CU and MSU are 4 years, so they are obviously better schools. In terms of accademics CU is probably a little better than MSU, but not much. CMC is open enrollment, while MSU is nearly open enrollment. CU can be a little tough to get into (3.0 gpa is average for arts & sciences i think, 3.5 for engineering).

Hope that helped, feel free to hit me up with a PM if you wanna know anything else.

i went to MSU-bozeman, CMC - leadville, and have spent a lot of time in boulder, and would say i completely agree w/ this.

don't plan on studying much at CMC

and someone said something about UW - university of Washington, I've been there a few times as my gf goes there and the campus/school is sick. definately a good school, with a very chill vibe for a 40,000+ student school. i hate big cities but Seattle is the only one i really liked, its much different than others. yeah skiing stevens pass is sick, as well as snowqualime(sp), not to mention tons of sick places to go if you go for a weekend or something.

western state college of Colorado in Gunnison Colorado.

4 year school

30 minutes from crested butte. 2 hours from summit for the weekends.

chillest town ever to live in. seriously. i shake cops hands walking out of partys shit faced. im 20. its not to difficult. its not as expensive as boulder or csu either.
